Genesis 31

Jacob heard that Laban’s sons were saying, “Jacob has taken everything our father owned and has gained all this wealth from what belonged to our father.”

ยาโคบได้ยินลูกๆ ของลาบันพูดกันว่า “ยาโคบเอาทุกสิ่งที่เป็นของพ่อเราไป ที่เขาร่ำรวยขึ้นมาทั้งหมดนี้ก็ได้มาจากสิ่งที่เป็นของพ่อของเราแท้ๆ”

And Jacob noticed that Laban’s attitude toward him was not what it had been.

และยาโคบสังเกตว่าลาบันเมินหน้าหนีตนซึ่งต่างไปจากแต่ก่อน

Then the Lord said to Jacob, “Go back to the land of your fathers and to your relatives, and I will be with you.”

แล้วองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสกับยาโคบว่า “จงกลับไปยังดินแดนของบิดาของเจ้า ไปหาญาติพี่น้องของเจ้า และเราจะอยู่กับเจ้า”

So Jacob sent word to Rachel and Leah to come out to the fields where his flocks were.

ยาโคบจึงให้คนไปตามราเชลกับเลอาห์ออกมาพบเขาที่ทุ่งซึ่งเขาเลี้ยงสัตว์อยู่

He said to them, “I see that your father’s attitude toward me is not what it was before, but the God of my father has been with me.

เขาบอกนางทั้งสองว่า “ฉันเห็นว่าท่าทีของพ่อเธอต่อตัวฉันเปลี่ยนไป แต่พระเจ้าของพ่อฉันสถิตอยู่กับฉัน

You know that I’ve worked for your father with all my strength,

เธอสองคนก็รู้ว่าฉันพากเพียรทำงานให้พ่อของเธอด้วยสุดกำลัง

yet your father has cheated me by changing my wages ten times. However, God has not allowed him to harm me.

แต่พ่อของเธอก็ยังบิดพลิ้วผิดสัญญาค่าจ้างของฉันถึงเป็นสิบครั้ง แต่พระเจ้าไม่ทรงยอมให้เขาทำอันตรายฉัน

If he said, ‘The speckled ones will be your wages,’ then all the flocks gave birth to speckled young; and if he said, ‘The streaked ones will be your wages,’ then all the flocks bore streaked young.

ถ้าเขากล่าวว่า ‘สัตว์ลายด่างจะเป็นค่าจ้างของเจ้า’ สัตว์ทุกตัวในฝูงก็จะตกลูกเป็นลายด่าง และถ้าเขากล่าวว่า ‘สัตว์ลายริ้วจะเป็นค่าจ้างของเจ้า’ สัตว์ทั้งฝูงก็จะตกลูกเป็นลายริ้ว

So God has taken away your father’s livestock and has given them to me.

ดังนั้นพระเจ้าจึงทรงยึดเอาฝูงสัตว์จากพ่อของเธอมาประทานแก่ฉัน

“In breeding season I once had a dream in which I looked up and saw that the male goats mating with the flock were streaked, speckled or spotted.

“ครั้งหนึ่งในฤดูผสมพันธุ์ ฉันฝันไปว่าฉันเงยหน้าขึ้นเห็นแพะตัวผู้ที่กำลังผสมพันธุ์มีลายริ้ว ลายด่าง หรือลายจุด

The angel of God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob.’ I answered, ‘Here I am.’

ทูตของพระเจ้ากล่าวกับฉันในฝันว่า ‘ยาโคบเอ๋ย’ ฉันตอบว่า ‘ข้าพเจ้าอยู่ที่นี่’

And he said, ‘Look up and see that all the male goats mating with the flock are streaked, speckled or spotted, for I have seen all that Laban has been doing to you.

และทูตนั้นกล่าวว่า ‘จงเงยหน้าขึ้นดูเถิด แพะผู้ที่กำลังผสมพันธุ์นั้นล้วนมีลายริ้ว ลายด่าง หรือลายจุดเพราะเราได้เห็นทุกอย่างที่ลาบันทำกับเจ้า

I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar and where you made a vow to me. Now leave this land at once and go back to your native land.’”

เราคือพระเจ้าแห่งเบธเอล ที่ซึ่งเจ้าได้เจิมเสาและได้กล่าวปฏิญาณไว้กับเรา บัดนี้เจ้าจงออกจากแผ่นดินนี้ทันทีและกลับไปยังบ้านเกิดเมืองนอนของเจ้า’ ”

Then Rachel and Leah replied, “Do we still have any share in the inheritance of our father’s estate?

แล้วราเชลกับเลอาห์ตอบว่า “เรายังมีส่วนแบ่งในมรดกของพ่ออีกหรือ?

Does he not regard us as foreigners? Not only has he sold us, but he has used up what was paid for us.

พ่อไม่ถือว่าเราเป็นเหมือนคนต่างชาติหรอกหรือ? พ่อไม่เพียงแต่ขายเรา แต่ยังใช้เงินส่วนที่เป็นค่าตัวของเราจนหมด

Surely all the wealth that God took away from our father belongs to us and our children. So do whatever God has told you.”

แน่ทีเดียวทรัพย์สมบัติทั้งสิ้นที่พระเจ้าทรงเอามาจากพ่อเป็นของเรากับลูกๆ ฉะนั้นเชิญท่านทำทุกอย่างตามที่พระเจ้าตรัสสั่งเถิด”

Then Jacob put his children and his wives on camels,

แล้วยาโคบจึงให้ลูกๆ กับภรรยาขึ้นอูฐ

and he drove all his livestock ahead of him, along with all the goods he had accumulated in Paddan Aram,^[a] to go to his father Isaac in the land of Canaan.

ตัวเขาก็ต้อนฝูงสัตว์ทั้งหมดไปข้างหน้าเขา พร้อมกับสิ่งของต่างๆ ซึ่งเขาสะสมไว้ได้ที่ปัดดานอารัม ออกเดินทางกลับไปหาอิสอัคบิดาของเขาในแผ่นดินคานาอัน

When Laban had gone to shear his sheep, Rachel stole her father’s household gods.

เมื่อลาบันออกไปตัดขนแกะ ราเชลก็ขโมยเหล่าเทวรูปประจำบ้านของบิดาติดตัวไปด้วย

Moreover, Jacob deceived Laban the Aramean by not telling him he was running away.

ยิ่งกว่านั้นยาโคบหลอกลวงลาบันชาวอารัมโดยการไม่บอกว่าเขากำลังจะหนีไป

So he fled with all he had, crossed the Euphrates River, and headed for the hill country of Gilead.

Laban Pursues Jacob

เขาจึงลอบหนีไปพร้อมกับข้าวของทั้งหมดที่มี เมื่อข้ามแม่น้ำยูเฟรติสแล้ว เขาก็มุ่งหน้าไปยังแดนเทือกเขากิเลอาด

ลาบันไล่ตามยาโคบ

On the third day Laban was told that Jacob had fled.

สามวันต่อมามีคนบอกลาบันให้รู้ว่ายาโคบหนีไปแล้ว

Taking his relatives with him, he pursued Jacob for seven days and caught up with him in the hill country of Gilead.

เขาจึงพาญาติพี่น้องตามล่ายาโคบไปเป็นเวลาเจ็ดวัน และตามมาทันที่แดนเทือกเขากิเลอาด

Then God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream at night and said to him, “Be careful not to say anything to Jacob, either good or bad.”

คืนนั้นพระเจ้าทรงปรากฏแก่ลาบันคนอารัมในความฝันและตรัสว่า “ไม่ว่าอะไรก็ตาม จงระวัง อย่าพูดจาคุกคามข่มขู่ยาโคบ”

Jacob had pitched his tent in the hill country of Gilead when Laban overtook him, and Laban and his relatives camped there too.

ขณะที่ยาโคบตั้งเต็นท์อยู่ที่แดนเทือกเขากิเลอาด ลาบันก็ตามมาทันและลาบันกับญาติพี่น้องก็ตั้งค่ายที่นั่นด้วย

Then Laban said to Jacob, “What have you done? You’ve deceived me, and you’ve carried off my daughters like captives in war.

แล้วลาบันจึงกล่าวกับยาโคบว่า “ทำไมเจ้าทำอย่างนี้? เจ้าได้หลอกลวงเราและกวาดต้อนลูกสาวของเรามาราวกับเป็นเชลยศึก

Why did you run off secretly and deceive me? Why didn’t you tell me, so I could send you away with joy and singing to the music of timbrels and harps?

ทำไมเจ้าต้องแอบหนีมาและหลอกลวงเรา? ทำไมไม่บอกเราเพื่อเราจะได้ส่งเจ้ามาด้วยความยินดีด้วยการร้องเพลงพร้อมกับเล่นพิณและรำมะนา?

You didn’t even let me kiss my grandchildren and my daughters goodbye. You have done a foolish thing.

เจ้าไม่ยอมแม้แต่จะให้เราได้จูบลาลูกหลานบ้างเลย เจ้าได้ทำสิ่งที่โง่เขลา

I have the power to harm you; but last night the God of your father said to me, ‘Be careful not to say anything to Jacob, either good or bad.’

เรามีอำนาจที่จะทำร้ายพวกเจ้า แต่เมื่อคืนนี้พระเจ้าของบิดาเจ้ากล่าวกับเราว่า ‘ไม่ว่าอะไรก็ตาม จงระวัง อย่าพูดจาคุกคามข่มขู่ยาโคบ’

Now you have gone off because you longed to return to your father’s household. But why did you steal my gods?”

ที่เจ้าจากมาเพราะอยากจะกลับไปบ้านบิดาของเจ้า แต่ทำไมเจ้าจึงขโมยบรรดาเทวรูปของเราไป?”

Jacob answered Laban, “I was afraid, because I thought you would take your daughters away from me by force.

ยาโคบตอบลาบันว่า “ฉันกลัว เพราะฉันคิดว่าท่านจะใช้กำลังพรากลูกสาวของท่านคืนไปจากฉัน

But if you find anyone who has your gods, that person shall not live. In the presence of our relatives, see for yourself whether there is anything of yours here with me; and if so, take it.” Now Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen the gods.

แต่ถ้าท่านเจอเทวรูปของท่านอยู่กับใคร เขาจะต้องตาย ท่านจงค้นดูต่อหน้าญาติพี่น้องของเราเอาเองเถิดว่ามีสิ่งใดที่เป็นของท่านอยู่กับฉันหรือไม่ ถ้ามีก็จงเอาไปเถิด” ยาโคบไม่รู้ว่าราเชลได้ขโมยเทวรูปมา

So Laban went into Jacob’s tent and into Leah’s tent and into the tent of the two female servants, but he found nothing. After he came out of Leah’s tent, he entered Rachel’s tent.

ดังนั้นลาบันจึงเข้าไปค้นในเต็นท์ของยาโคบ แล้วเข้าไปในเต็นท์ของเลอาห์ และเต็นท์ของสาวใช้ทั้งสอง แต่เขาไม่พบอะไร หลังจากออกมาจากเต็นท์ของเลอาห์ เขาเข้าไปในเต็นท์ของราเชล

Now Rachel had taken the household gods and put them inside her camel’s saddle and was sitting on them. Laban searched through everything in the tent but found nothing.

ฝ่ายราเชลขโมยเทวรูปประจำบ้านมาไว้ใต้กูบอูฐแล้วนั่งทับไว้ ลาบันค้นจนทั่วเต็นท์แต่ไม่พบอะไร

Rachel said to her father, “Don’t be angry, my lord, that I cannot stand up in your presence; I’m having my period.” So he searched but could not find the household gods.

ราเชลพูดกับบิดาของนางว่า “ท่านเจ้าข้า ขออย่าโกรธที่ลูกไม่ได้ยืนขึ้นต้อนรับ เพราะลูกกำลังมีประจำเดือน” ดังนั้นเขาจึงค้นแต่ไม่พบเทวรูปประจำบ้าน

Jacob was angry and took Laban to task. “What is my crime?” he asked Laban. “How have I wronged you that you hunt me down?

ยาโคบก็โกรธและตำหนิลาบันอย่างรุนแรง เขาถามลาบันว่า “ฉันไปก่อเรื่องอะไรไว้หรือ? ฉันไปทำผิดอะไรมา ท่านจึงไล่ล่าฉันอย่างนี้?

Now that you have searched through all my goods, what have you found that belongs to your household? Put it here in front of your relatives and mine, and let them judge between the two of us.

เมื่อท่านค้นข้าวของทุกอย่างของฉันแล้ว ท่านพบอะไรที่เป็นของท่านบ้าง? จงเอามาวางต่อหน้าญาติของท่านและของฉันเถิด ให้พวกเขาตัดสินเรื่องระหว่างเราทั้งสอง

“I have been with you for twenty years now. Your sheep and goats have not miscarried, nor have I eaten rams from your flocks.

“ฉันอยู่กับท่านมาจนถึงวันนี้ก็ยี่สิบปีแล้ว ฉันไม่เคยทำให้แพะแกะของท่านแท้งลูก ทั้งฉันก็ไม่เคยกินแกะของท่านเลย

I did not bring you animals torn by wild beasts; I bore the loss myself. And you demanded payment from me for whatever was stolen by day or night.

ตัวไหนถูกสัตว์ร้ายกัดกิน ฉันก็ไม่ได้เอาไปให้ท่าน ฉันรับผิดชอบความสูญเสียนั้นเอง และท่านก็เรียกร้องให้ฉันชดใช้สัตว์ทุกตัวที่ถูกขโมยไป ไม่ว่าจะหายไปตอนกลางวันหรือกลางคืน

This was my situation: The heat consumed me in the daytime and the cold at night, and sleep fled from my eyes.

ตอนกลางวันก็ถูกความร้อนแผดเผา ตอนกลางคืนก็ต้องทนเหน็บหนาวจนหลับตาไม่ได้

It was like this for the twenty years I was in your household. I worked for you fourteen years for your two daughters and six years for your flocks, and you changed my wages ten times.

เป็นอย่างนี้ตลอดยี่สิบปีที่ฉันอยู่ในครอบครัวของท่าน ฉันทำงานให้ท่านสิบสี่ปีเพื่อจะได้ลูกสาวสองคนของท่าน และอีกหกปีเพื่อจะได้ฝูงสัตว์ และท่านยังเปลี่ยนค่าจ้างของฉันเป็นสิบครั้ง

If the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had not been with me, you would surely have sent me away empty-handed. But God has seen my hardship and the toil of my hands, and last night he rebuked you.”

ถ้าพระเจ้าของบรรพบุรุษของฉัน คือพระเจ้าของอับราฮัมและพระเจ้าที่อิสอัคยำเกรงไม่ได้อยู่กับฉัน ท่านก็คงจะให้ฉันมามือเปล่าเป็นแน่ แต่พระเจ้าทอดพระเนตรความยากลำบากและการตรากตรำของฉัน พระองค์จึงทรงว่ากล่าวท่านเมื่อคืนนี้”

Laban answered Jacob, “The women are my daughters, the children are my children, and the flocks are my flocks. All you see is mine. Yet what can I do today about these daughters of mine, or about the children they have borne?

ลาบันตอบยาโคบว่า “ผู้หญิงเหล่านี้เป็นลูกสาวของเรา เด็กๆ ก็เป็นลูกหลานของเรา ฝูงสัตว์เหล่านี้ก็เป็นฝูงสัตว์ของเรา และทุกอย่างที่เจ้าเห็นอยู่นี้ล้วนเป็นของเรา แต่เราจะทำอะไรลูกสาวของเรา และลูกๆ ที่พวกนางให้กำเนิดได้เล่า?

Come now, let’s make a covenant, you and I, and let it serve as a witness between us.”

มาเถิดให้เราทำสนธิสัญญาระหว่างเจ้ากับเรา ให้เป็นพยานหลักฐานระหว่างเราทั้งสอง”

So Jacob took a stone and set it up as a pillar.

ดังนั้นยาโคบจึงเอาหินก้อนหนึ่งตั้งขึ้นเป็นเสา

He said to his relatives, “Gather some stones.” So they took stones and piled them in a heap, and they ate there by the heap.

แล้วเขาบอกกับญาติว่า “รวบรวมก้อนหินมา” ดังนั้นพวกเขาก็เอาหินมากองรวมกันเป็นพะเนิน และพวกเขาก็รับประทานอาหารด้วยกันข้างกองหินนั้น

Laban called it Jegar Sahadutha, and Jacob called it Galeed.^[b]

ลาบันเรียกกองหินนั้นว่าเยการ์สหดูธา^[a] และยาโคบเรียกว่ากาเลเอด^[b]

Laban said, “This heap is a witness between you and me today.” That is why it was called Galeed.

ลาบันกล่าวว่า “ในวันนี้กองหินนี้จะเป็นพยานระหว่างเรากับเจ้า” นี่เป็นเหตุที่กองหินนั้นได้ชื่อว่ากาเลเอด

It was also called Mizpah,^[c] because he said, “May the Lord keep watch between you and me when we are away from each other.

ทั้งมีชื่อว่ามิสปาห์^[c]ด้วย เพราะเขากล่าวว่า “ขอให้องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงเฝ้าดูเรากับเจ้าเมื่อเราจากกันไป

If you mistreat my daughters or if you take any wives besides my daughters, even though no one is with us, remember that God is a witness between you and me.”

ถ้าเจ้าข่มเหงบรรดาลูกสาวของเราหรือมีภรรยาใหม่นอกจากลูกสาวของเรา ถึงแม้ไม่มีใครอยู่กับเรา ก็ขอให้จำไว้ว่าพระเจ้าทรงเป็นพยานระหว่างเจ้ากับเรา”

Laban also said to Jacob, “Here is this heap, and here is this pillar I have set up between you and me.

ลาบันกล่าวกับยาโคบด้วยว่า “นี่เป็นกองหินและเสาซึ่งเราตั้งไว้ระหว่างเรากับเจ้า

This heap is a witness, and this pillar is a witness, that I will not go past this heap to your side to harm you and that you will not go past this heap and pillar to my side to harm me.

กองหินนี้เป็นพยานและเสานี้เป็นพยานว่า เราจะไม่ล่วงล้ำผ่านกองหินไปทางเขตแดนของเจ้าเพื่อทำร้ายเจ้า และเจ้าก็จะไม่ล่วงล้ำผ่านกองหินและเสานี้มาทางเขตแดนของเราเพื่อทำอันตรายเรา

May the God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us.”

So Jacob took an oath in the name of the Fear of his father Isaac.

ขอให้พระเจ้าของอับราฮัมและเทพเจ้าของนาโฮร์ คือบรรดาพระของบรรพบุรุษ^[d]ของพวกเขา ทรงตัดสินระหว่างเราและเจ้า”

ดังนั้นยาโคบจึงกล่าวปฏิญาณในพระนามพระเจ้าผู้ซึ่งอิสอัคบิดาของตนยำเกรง

He offered a sacrifice there in the hill country and invited his relatives to a meal. After they had eaten, they spent the night there.

เขาถวายเครื่องบูชาที่นั่น ที่เทือกเขานั้นและเชิญญาติพี่น้องรับประทานอาหาร หลังจากรับประทานอาหารแล้วก็พักค้างคืนที่นั่น

Early the next morning Laban kissed his grandchildren and his daughters and blessed them. Then he left and returned home.^[d]

เช้าตรู่วันรุ่งขึ้น ลาบันจูบอำลาและให้พรลูกหลานแล้วก็เดินทางกลับบ้าน
