Genesis 30

When Rachel saw that she was not bearing Jacob any children, she became jealous of her sister. So she said to Jacob, “Give me children, or I’ll die!”

เมื่อราเชลเห็นว่าตนไม่มีบุตรให้ยาโคบก็อิจฉาพี่สาว ดังนั้นนางจึงกล่าวกับยาโคบว่า “จงให้ลูกแก่ฉัน ไม่อย่างนั้นฉันตายดีกว่า!”

Jacob became angry with her and said, “Am I in the place of God, who has kept you from having children?”

ยาโคบจึงโกรธนางและพูดว่า “ฉันอยู่ในฐานะพระเจ้าผู้ทรงไม่ให้เธอมีลูกหรือ?”

Then she said, “Here is Bilhah, my servant. Sleep with her so that she can bear children for me and I too can build a family through her.”

นางจึงพูดว่า “นางบิลฮาห์สาวใช้ของฉันอยู่ที่นี่ จงหลับนอนกับนางเพื่อฉันจะได้รับลูกนางมาเป็นลูกฉัน และฉันเองก็จะสามารถสร้างครอบครัวขึ้นได้โดยอาศัยนาง”

So she gave him her servant Bilhah as a wife. Jacob slept with her,

and she became pregnant and bore him a son.

Then Rachel said, “God has vindicated me; he has listened to my plea and given me a son.” Because of this she named him Dan.^[a]

แล้วราเชลกล่าวว่า “พระเจ้าทรงตัดสินให้ฉันชนะ พระองค์ทรงสดับฟังคำวิงวอนของฉันและประทานลูกชายแก่ฉัน” เพราะเหตุนี้นางจึงตั้งชื่อเขาว่าดาน^[a]

Rachel’s servant Bilhah conceived again and bore Jacob a second son.

แล้วบิลฮาห์สาวใช้ของราเชลก็ตั้งครรภ์อีกครั้งหนึ่งและคลอดบุตรชายคนที่สองให้แก่ยาโคบ

Then Rachel said, “I have had a great struggle with my sister, and I have won.” So she named him Naphtali.^[b]

แล้วราเชลกล่าวว่า “ฉันได้ต่อสู้กับพี่สาวอย่างหนักมาตลอดและฉันก็ชนะแล้ว” ดังนั้นนางจึงตั้งชื่อเขาว่านัฟทาลี^[b]

When Leah saw that she had stopped having children, she took her servant Zilpah and gave her to Jacob as a wife.

เมื่อเลอาห์เห็นว่าตนไม่มีลูกอีก จึงยกศิลปาห์สาวใช้ของตนให้เป็นภรรยาของยาโคบ

Leah’s servant Zilpah bore Jacob a son.

Then Leah said, “What good fortune!”^[c] So she named him Gad.^[d]

แล้วเลอาห์กล่าวว่า “โชคดีอะไรอย่างนี้!”^[c] ดังนั้นนางจึงตั้งชื่อเขาว่ากาด^[d]

Leah’s servant Zilpah bore Jacob a second son.

แล้วศิลปาห์สาวใช้ของเลอาห์ก็ให้กำเนิดบุตรชายคนที่สองแก่ยาโคบ

Then Leah said, “How happy I am! The women will call me happy.” So she named him Asher.^[e]

แล้วเลอาห์กล่าวว่า “ฉันสุขใจจริงๆ! พวกผู้หญิงจะเรียกฉันว่าเป็นสุข” ดังนั้นนางจึงตั้งชื่อเขาว่าอาเชอร์^[e]

During wheat harvest, Reuben went out into the fields and found some mandrake plants, which he brought to his mother Leah. Rachel said to Leah, “Please give me some of your son’s mandrakes.”

วันหนึ่งในฤดูเก็บเกี่ยวข้าวสาลี รูเบนออกไปที่ทุ่งนาและพบต้นดูดาอิม^[f] จึงนำมาให้เลอาห์ผู้เป็นมารดา ราเชลพูดกับเลอาห์ว่า “ขอดูดาอิมของลูกชายพี่ให้ฉันบ้างเถิด”

But she said to her, “Wasn’t it enough that you took away my husband? Will you take my son’s mandrakes too?”

“Very well,” Rachel said, “he can sleep with you tonight in return for your son’s mandrakes.”

แต่เลอาห์ตอบนางว่า “เจ้าเอาสามีของฉันไปยังไม่พออีกหรือ? แล้วยังจะมาเอาดูดาอิมของลูกฉันอีกหรือ?”

ราเชลกล่าวว่า “เอาอย่างนี้ก็แล้วกัน ให้ยาโคบไปนอนกับพี่คืนนี้ได้ แลกกับดูดาอิมของลูกชายพี่”

So when Jacob came in from the fields that evening, Leah went out to meet him. “You must sleep with me,” she said. “I have hired you with my son’s mandrakes.” So he slept with her that night.

เย็นวันนั้นเมื่อยาโคบกลับมาจากทุ่งนา เลอาห์ก็ออกไปพบและพูดว่า “ท่านต้องมานอนกับฉัน เพราะฉันเอาดูดาอิมของลูกเป็นสินจ้างแล้ว” คืนวันนั้นยาโคบก็นอนกับนาง

God listened to Leah, and she became pregnant and bore Jacob a fifth son.

พระเจ้าทรงฟังเลอาห์ นางก็ตั้งครรภ์และให้กำเนิดบุตรชายคนที่ห้า

Then Leah said, “God has rewarded me for giving my servant to my husband.” So she named him Issachar.^[f]

แล้วเลอาห์กล่าวว่า “พระเจ้าประทานรางวัลให้ฉันเพราะฉันได้ยกสาวใช้ให้สามี” ดังนั้นนางจึงตั้งชื่อเขาว่าอิสสาคาร์^[g]

Leah conceived again and bore Jacob a sixth son.

เลอาห์ได้ตั้งครรภ์อีกและคลอดบุตรชายคนที่หกให้แก่ยาโคบ

Then Leah said, “God has presented me with a precious gift. This time my husband will treat me with honor, because I have borne him six sons.” So she named him Zebulun.^[g]

แล้วเลอาห์กล่าวว่า “พระเจ้าประทานของขวัญล้ำค่าแก่ฉัน คราวนี้สามีจะยกย่องฉัน เพราะฉันคลอดลูกชายให้แก่เขาถึงหกคน” ดังนั้นนางจึงตั้งชื่อเขาว่าเศบูลุน^[h]

Some time later she gave birth to a daughter and named her Dinah.

ต่อมาภายหลัง นางได้คลอดบุตรสาวคนหนึ่งและตั้งชื่อว่าดีนาห์

Then God remembered Rachel; he listened to her and enabled her to conceive.

แล้วพระเจ้าทรงระลึกถึงราเชล พระองค์ทรงฟังนางและให้นางมีบุตร

She became pregnant and gave birth to a son and said, “God has taken away my disgrace.”

นางตั้งครรภ์และให้กำเนิดบุตรชายคนหนึ่ง นางกล่าวว่า “พระเจ้าทรงลบล้างความอับอายของฉันแล้ว”

She named him Joseph,^[h] and said, “May the Lord add to me another son.”

Jacob’s Flocks Increase

นางตั้งชื่อเขาว่าโยเซฟ^[i] และกล่าวว่า “ขอองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงเพิ่มลูกชายให้ฉันอีกคนหนึ่ง”

ฝูงสัตว์ของยาโคบเพิ่มจำนวนขึ้น

After Rachel gave birth to Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, “Send me on my way so I can go back to my own homeland.

หลังจากราเชลให้กำเนิดโยเซฟ ยาโคบพูดกับลาบันว่า “อนุญาตให้ฉันไปตามทางของฉันเถิด เพื่อฉันจะได้กลับไปบ้านเกิดเมืองนอน

Give me my wives and children, for whom I have served you, and I will be on my way. You know how much work I’ve done for you.”

But Laban said to him, “If I have found favor in your eyes, please stay. I have learned by divination that the Lord has blessed me because of you.”

He added, “Name your wages, and I will pay them.”

เขายังกล่าวเสริมอีกว่า “ท่านจะเรียกค่าจ้างเท่าไรก็บอกมาเถิด เราจะจ่ายให้”

Jacob said to him, “You know how I have worked for you and how your livestock has fared under my care.

ยาโคบกล่าวกับเขาว่า “ท่านก็รู้ว่าฉันได้รับใช้ท่านอย่างไร และฝูงแพะแกะในความดูแลของฉันได้รับการเลี้ยงดูอย่างดีเพียงไร

The little you had before I came has increased greatly, and the Lord has blessed you wherever I have been. But now, when may I do something for my own household?”

ที่ท่านมีอยู่เล็กน้อยก่อนที่ฉันจะมา เดี๋ยวนี้เพิ่มขึ้นมหาศาล และไม่ว่าฉันจะทำอะไร องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าก็ทรงอวยพรท่าน แต่เมื่อไรฉันจึงจะได้ทำอะไรเพื่อครัวเรือนของตนเองบ้าง?”

“What shall I give you?” he asked.

“Don’t give me anything,” Jacob replied. “But if you will do this one thing for me, I will go on tending your flocks and watching over them:

ยาโคบตอบว่า “ไม่ต้องให้อะไรฉันหรอก ฉันจะเลี้ยงและดูแลฝูงสัตว์ให้ท่านต่อไป ถ้าท่านจะตกลงกับฉันสักอย่างหนึ่ง

Let me go through all your flocks today and remove from them every speckled or spotted sheep, every dark-colored lamb and every spotted or speckled goat. They will be my wages.

คือในวันนี้ให้ฉันออกไปสำรวจฝูงสัตว์ของท่านดู แล้วแยกแกะที่มีลายด่าง ลูกแกะสีคล้ำ และแพะที่มีลายด่างทุกตัวออกจากฝูง สัตว์เหล่านี้ถือเป็นค่าจ้างของฉัน

And my honesty will testify for me in the future, whenever you check on the wages you have paid me. Any goat in my possession that is not speckled or spotted, or any lamb that is not dark-colored, will be considered stolen.”

และนี่จะเป็นพยานถึงความซื่อสัตย์ของฉันในอนาคต คือทุกครั้งที่ท่านตรวจดูค่าจ้างที่จ่ายให้ฉัน หากพบว่าแพะตัวใดในกรรมสิทธิ์ของฉันไม่มีลายด่าง หรือลูกแกะตัวใดไม่มีสีคล้ำก็ให้ถือว่าฉันขโมยมา”

“Agreed,” said Laban. “Let it be as you have said.”

That same day he removed all the male goats that were streaked or spotted, and all the speckled or spotted female goats (all that had white on them) and all the dark-colored lambs, and he placed them in the care of his sons.

ในวันนั้นเองลาบันก็ออกไปคัดแพะทั้งตัวผู้และตัวเมียทุกตัวที่มีลายด่างออกมา (ทุกตัวที่มีสีขาวอยู่ด้วย) ตลอดจนลูกแกะสีคล้ำทุกตัวออกจากฝูง แล้วนำไปให้บรรดาบุตรชายของเขาเลี้ยง

Then he put a three-day journey between himself and Jacob, while Jacob continued to tend the rest of Laban’s flocks.

แล้วเขาให้ฝูงแพะแกะของเขากับของยาโคบอยู่ห่างกันเป็นระยะเวลาเดินทางสามวัน ในขณะที่ยาโคบยังเลี้ยงฝูงสัตว์ที่เหลือให้ลาบันต่อไป

Jacob, however, took fresh-cut branches from poplar, almond and plane trees and made white stripes on them by peeling the bark and exposing the white inner wood of the branches.

Then he placed the peeled branches in all the watering troughs, so that they would be directly in front of the flocks when they came to drink. When the flocks were in heat and came to drink,

they mated in front of the branches. And they bore young that were streaked or speckled or spotted.

มันก็ผสมพันธุ์กันหน้ากิ่งไม้นั้น ลูกที่เกิดมาจึงมีลายริ้ว ลายด่าง หรือลายจุด

Jacob set apart the young of the flock by themselves, but made the rest face the streaked and dark-colored animals that belonged to Laban. Thus he made separate flocks for himself and did not put them with Laban’s animals.

ยาโคบก็แยกลูกสัตว์เหล่านั้นไว้ต่างหาก แล้วให้ฝูงสัตว์ที่เหลือหันไปทางสัตว์ที่มีลายด่างหรือสัตว์ที่มีสีคล้ำของลาบัน โดยวิธีนี้เองเขาจึงสร้างฝูงแพะแกะของตนเองขึ้นและไม่ได้รวมไว้กับฝูงสัตว์ของลาบัน

Whenever the stronger females were in heat, Jacob would place the branches in the troughs in front of the animals so they would mate near the branches,

เมื่อใดก็ตามที่บรรดาตัวเมียที่แข็งแรงเป็นสัด ยาโคบก็เอากิ่งไม้ที่ลอกเปลือกไปวางไว้ในรางน้ำตรงหน้าสัตว์นั้น ให้มันผสมพันธุ์กันใกล้กิ่งไม้นั้น

but if the animals were weak, he would not place them there. So the weak animals went to Laban and the strong ones to Jacob.

แต่ถ้าสัตว์ตัวใดอ่อนแอ เขาก็ไม่เอากิ่งไม้ไปวางไว้ที่นั่น ดังนั้นสัตว์ที่อ่อนแอก็เป็นของลาบัน ส่วนตัวที่แข็งแรงเป็นของยาโคบ

In this way the man grew exceedingly prosperous and came to own large flocks, and female and male servants, and camels and donkeys.

ด้วยวิธีนี้เอง เขาจึงร่ำรวยขึ้นอย่างมากและกลายเป็นเจ้าของสัตว์ฝูงใหญ่ มีคนรับใช้ชายหญิงจำนวนมาก และมีอูฐมีลาอีกมากมาย
