Verse 1
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
งูนั้นเป็นสัตว์ที่มีเล่ห์เหลี่ยมมากกว่าสัตว์ป่าทั้งหลายที่พระเจ้าพระยาห์เวห์ทรงสร้างขึ้น มันมาถามหญิงนั้นว่า “พระเจ้าตรัสจริงๆ หรือว่า ‘เจ้าต้องไม่กินผลจากต้นใดๆ ในสวนนี้’?”
Verse 2
The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,
หญิงนั้นตอบงูว่า “พวกเรากินผลของทุกต้นในสวนได้
Verse 3
but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
แต่พระเจ้าตรัสจริงๆ ว่า ‘เจ้าต้องไม่กินผลของต้นไม้ที่อยู่กลางสวน และเจ้าต้องไม่แตะต้องมัน มิฉะนั้นเจ้าจะตาย’ ”
Verse 4
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.
งูบอกหญิงนั้นว่า “เจ้าจะไม่ตายแน่นอน
Verse 5
“For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
เพราะพระเจ้าทรงทราบว่าเมื่อใดที่เจ้ากินผลไม้นั้น เจ้าจะตาสว่างขึ้นและจะเป็นเหมือนพระเจ้า คือรู้ผิดชอบชั่วดี”
Verse 6
When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
เมื่อหญิงนั้นเห็นว่าผลนั้นดี เหมาะเป็นอาหาร และยังงามน่าดู ทั้งน่าพึงปรารถนาเพราะจะช่วยให้เกิดปัญญา นางจึงนำผลไม้มากิน และให้สามีที่อยู่กับนาง และเขาก็กิน
Verse 7
Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
แล้วเขาทั้งสองก็ตาสว่าง และตระหนักว่าตนเองเปลือยกายอยู่ จึงเอาใบมะเดื่อมาเย็บเป็นเครื่องปกปิดร่างกาย
Verse 8
Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
เย็นวันนั้นเขาทั้งสองได้ยินเสียงพระเจ้าพระยาห์เวห์ทรงดำเนินอยู่ในสวน จึงหลบซ่อนตัวอยู่ในพุ่มไม้ให้พ้นจากพระองค์
Verse 9
But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
พระเจ้าพระยาห์เวห์ตรัสเรียกหาชายนั้นว่า “เจ้าอยู่ที่ไหน?”
Verse 10
He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
เขาทูลว่า “ข้าพระองค์ได้ยินเสียงของพระองค์อยู่ในสวนก็กลัว เพราะข้าพระองค์เปลือยกายอยู่ จึงหลบซ่อนตัวเสีย”
Verse 11
And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”
พระองค์ตรัสถามว่า “ใครบอกว่าเจ้าเปลือยกายอยู่? เจ้ากินผลจากต้นที่เราห้ามเจ้าไว้แล้วหรือ?”
Verse 12
The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”
ชายนั้นทูลว่า “หญิงที่พระองค์ให้อยู่กับข้าพระองค์นั่นแหละ ยื่นผลจากต้นไม้นั้นให้แก่ข้าพระองค์ ข้าพระองค์จึงกิน”
Verse 13
Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
แล้วพระเจ้าพระยาห์เวห์ตรัสถามหญิงนั้นว่า “เจ้าทำอะไรลงไป?”
หญิงนั้นทูลว่า “งูนั้นล่อลวงข้าพระองค์ ข้าพระองค์จึงกิน”
Verse 14
So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,
“Cursed are you above all livestock
and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.
พระเจ้าพระยาห์เวห์จึงตรัสแก่งูนั้นว่า “เพราะเจ้าได้ทำเช่นนี้
“เจ้าจึงถูกสาปแช่งหนักกว่าสัตว์ใช้งานทั้งสิ้น
และสัตว์ป่าทั้งปวง!
เจ้าจะเลื้อยไปด้วยท้อง
และเจ้าจะกินธุลีดิน
ตราบชั่วชีวิตของเจ้า
Verse 15
And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring[a] and hers;
he will crush[b] your head,
and you will strike his heel.”

เราจะให้เจ้ากับหญิงนั้น
เป็นศัตรูกัน
ทั้งเผ่าพันธุ์[a]ของเจ้ากับของนางด้วย
เขาจะฟาดศีรษะของเจ้า
และเจ้าจะฉก[b]ส้นเท้าของเขา”
เป็นศัตรูกัน
ทั้งเผ่าพันธุ์[a]ของเจ้ากับของนางด้วย

Verse 16
To the woman he said,
“I will make your pains in childbearing very severe;
with painful labor you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you.”
พระองค์ตรัสกับหญิงนั้นว่า
“เราจะให้เจ้าเจ็บปวดแสนสาหัส[c]เมื่อเจ้าคลอดบุตร
เจ้าจะคลอดบุตรด้วยความเจ็บปวด
แต่เจ้าก็ยังปรารถนาสามี
และเขาจะปกครองเจ้า”
Verse 17
To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’
“Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.
พระองค์ตรัสกับอาดัมว่า “เพราะเจ้าฟังภรรยาของเจ้าและกินผลไม้ซึ่งเราสั่งเจ้าว่า ‘เจ้าต้องไม่กินผลจากต้นไม้นั้น’
“แผ่นดินจึงถูกสาปแช่งเพราะเจ้า
เจ้าจะหาเลี้ยงชีพจากแผ่นดินด้วยความลำบากตรากตรำ
ตลอดชีวิตของเจ้า
Verse 18
It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
and you will eat the plants of the field.
ต้นหนามน้อยใหญ่จะงอกขึ้นมาบนแผ่นดิน
และเจ้าจะกินพืชพันธุ์จากท้องทุ่ง
และเจ้าจะกินพืชพันธุ์จากท้องทุ่ง
Verse 19
By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return.”

เจ้าจะทำมาหากิน
อาบเหงื่อต่างน้ำ
ตราบจนเจ้ากลับคืนสู่ดิน
เพราะเรานำเจ้ามาจากดิน
เพราะเจ้าเป็นธุลีดิน
และเจ้าจะกลับคืนสู่ธุลีดิน”
อาบเหงื่อต่างน้ำ
ตราบจนเจ้ากลับคืนสู่ดิน
เพราะเรานำเจ้ามาจากดิน
เพราะเจ้าเป็นธุลีดิน
และเจ้าจะกลับคืนสู่ธุลีดิน”
Verse 20
Verse 21
The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.
พระเจ้าพระยาห์เวห์ทรงทำเครื่องนุ่งห่มจากหนังสัตว์ให้อาดัมกับภรรยาสวม
Verse 22
And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”
แล้วพระเจ้าพระยาห์เวห์ตรัสว่า “บัดนี้ มนุษย์ได้กลายเป็นเหมือนหนึ่งในพวกเราแล้ว คือรู้ผิดชอบชั่วดี ดังนั้นต้องไม่ปล่อยให้เขาเก็บผลไม้แห่งชีวิตมากินแล้วมีชีวิตอยู่ตลอดไป”
Verse 23
So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken.
พระเจ้าพระยาห์เวห์จึงทรงขับไล่เขาออกจากสวนเอเดนให้ไปหาเลี้ยงชีพบนผืนดินซึ่งเขาถือกำเนิดมานั้น
Verse 24
After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side[e] of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
หลังจากทรงขับไล่เขาออกไปจากสวนแล้ว พระองค์ทรงตั้งเหล่าเครูบไว้ที่ด้านตะวันออก[f]ของสวนเอเดน และตั้งดาบเพลิงเล่มหนึ่งที่พุ่งไปมาเพื่อคอยพิทักษ์ทางซึ่งนำไปสู่ต้นไม้แห่งชีวิตนั้น
