Genesis 23

Sarah lived to be a hundred and twenty-seven years old.

ซาราห์มีชีวิตอยู่จนอายุ 127 ปี นี่คือช่วงชีวิตของนางซาราห์

She died at Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham went to mourn for Sarah and to weep over her.

นางตายที่คีริยาทอารบา (คือเฮโบรน) ในดินแดนคานาอัน อับราฮัมไว้ทุกข์ให้ซาราห์และคร่ำครวญอาลัยถึงนาง

Then Abraham rose from beside his dead wife and spoke to the Hittites.^[a] He said,

แล้วอับราฮัมลุกขึ้นจากข้างศพภรรยาและกล่าวกับคนฮิตไทต์^[a]ว่า

“I am a foreigner and stranger among you. Sell me some property for a burial site here so I can bury my dead.”

“ข้าพเจ้าเป็นคนต่างด้าวต่างแดนในหมู่พวกท่าน ขอที่ดินผืนหนึ่งของท่านให้แก่ข้าพเจ้าไว้ใช้เป็นสุสานเถิด เพื่อข้าพเจ้าจะได้ฝังผู้ตายของข้าพเจ้า”

The Hittites replied to Abraham,

คนฮิตไทต์ตอบอับราฮัมว่า

“Sir, listen to us. You are a mighty prince among us. Bury your dead in the choicest of our tombs. None of us will refuse you his tomb for burying your dead.”

“นายเจ้าข้า ขอฟังเราเถิด ท่านเป็นเจ้านายผู้ทรงอำนาจในหมู่พวกเรา เชิญฝังผู้ตายของท่านในอุโมงค์ฝังศพที่ดีที่สุดของเรา ไม่มีผู้ใดห้ามท่านฝังผู้ตายของท่านในอุโมงค์ฝังศพของเขา”

Then Abraham rose and bowed down before the people of the land, the Hittites.

อับราฮัมลุกขึ้นน้อมคำนับชาวแผ่นดินฮิตไทต์

He said to them, “If you are willing to let me bury my dead, then listen to me and intercede with Ephron son of Zohar on my behalf

เขากล่าวกับคนเหล่านั้นว่า “ถ้าท่านเต็มใจให้ข้าพเจ้าฝังผู้ตายของข้าพเจ้า ก็ขอได้โปรดฟังข้าพเจ้าและวิงวอนเอโฟรนบุตรของโศหาร์แทนข้าพเจ้า

so he will sell me the cave of Machpelah, which belongs to him and is at the end of his field. Ask him to sell it to me for the full price as a burial site among you.”

เพื่อเขาจะขายถ้ำมัคเปลาห์ซึ่งอยู่ตรงปลายทุ่งของเขาแก่ข้าพเจ้า ขอให้เขาขายให้ข้าพเจ้าเต็มราคาเพื่อเป็นสุสานท่ามกลางพวกท่าน”

Ephron the Hittite was sitting among his people and he replied to Abraham in the hearing of all the Hittites who had come to the gate of his city.

“No, my lord,” he said. “Listen to me; I give^[b] you the field, and I give^[c] you the cave that is in it. I give^[d] it to you in the presence of my people. Bury your dead.”

เขากล่าวว่า “อย่าเลยนายเจ้าข้า โปรดฟังข้าพเจ้าเถิด ข้าพเจ้าให้^[b]ที่ดินผืนนี้แก่ท่าน และข้าพเจ้าให้ถ้ำในที่ดินนั้นแก่ท่าน ข้าพเจ้าให้ที่แห่งนี้แก่ท่านต่อหน้าประชาชนของข้าพเจ้า จงฝังผู้ตายของท่านเถิด”

Again Abraham bowed down before the people of the land

อับราฮัมจึงน้อมคำนับชาวแผ่นดินนั้นอีกครั้ง

and he said to Ephron in their hearing, “Listen to me, if you will. I will pay the price of the field. Accept it from me so I can bury my dead there.”

แล้วตอบเอโฟรนให้คนอื่นๆ ได้ยินด้วยว่า “โปรดฟังข้าพเจ้า ข้าพเจ้าจะจ่ายเงินค่าที่ดินผืนนี้ โปรดรับไว้เถิด เพื่อข้าพเจ้าจะได้ฝังผู้ตายของข้าพเจ้าที่นั่น”

Ephron answered Abraham,

เอโฟรนตอบอับราฮัมว่า

“Listen to me, my lord; the land is worth four hundred shekels^[e] of silver, but what is that between you and me? Bury your dead.”

“นายเจ้าข้า โปรดฟังข้าพเจ้า ที่ดินนั้นราคา 400 เชเขล^[c] แต่นั่นมีความหมายอะไรระหว่างเรากับท่าน? เชิญฝังผู้ตายของท่านเถิด”

Abraham agreed to Ephron’s terms and weighed out for him the price he had named in the hearing of the Hittites: four hundred shekels of silver, according to the weight current among the merchants.

อับราฮัมตกลงตามข้อเสนอของเอโฟรน จึงชั่งเงินจ่ายให้ตามราคาที่เขาบอกต่อหน้าคนฮิตไทต์ คือเงิน 400 เชเขลตามน้ำหนักที่พวกพ่อค้าใช้กันในเวลานั้น

So Ephron’s field in Machpelah near Mamre—both the field and the cave in it, and all the trees within the borders of the field—was deeded

ดังนั้นที่ดินของเอโฟรนในมัคเปลาห์ใกล้มัมเร คือทั้งท้องทุ่งและถ้ำในที่ดินผืนนั้น และต้นไม้ทั้งหมดที่อยู่ริมทุ่งได้ถูกโอนกรรมสิทธิ์

to Abraham as his property in the presence of all the Hittites who had come to the gate of the city.

Afterward Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave in the field of Machpelah near Mamre (which is at Hebron) in the land of Canaan.

จากนั้นอับราฮัมจึงฝังศพซาราห์ภรรยาของเขาในถ้ำที่อยู่ในทุ่งมัคเปลาห์ใกล้มัมเร (ซึ่งอยู่ที่เมืองเฮโบรน) ในดินแดนคานาอัน

So the field and the cave in it were deeded to Abraham by the Hittites as a burial site.
