Genesis 24

Abraham was now very old, and the Lord had blessed him in every way.

He said to the senior servant in his household, the one in charge of all that he had, “Put your hand under my thigh.

วันหนึ่งอับราฮัมพูดกับหัวหน้าคนรับใช้^[a]ซึ่งเป็นผู้ดูแลทรัพย์สมบัติทั้งหมดของเขาว่า “จงเอามือของเจ้าไว้ที่หว่างขาของเรา

I want you to swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living,

but will go to my country and my own relatives and get a wife for my son Isaac.”

The servant asked him, “What if the woman is unwilling to come back with me to this land? Shall I then take your son back to the country you came from?”

“Make sure that you do not take my son back there,” Abraham said.

อับราฮัมกล่าวว่า “อย่าพาลูกชายของเรากลับไปที่นั่นเด็ดขาด

“The Lord, the God of heaven, who brought me out of my father’s household and my native land and who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying, ‘To your offspring^[a] I will give this land’—he will send his angel before you so that you can get a wife for my son from there.

พระยาห์เวห์ พระเจ้าผู้สร้างสวรรค์ ผู้ทรงนำเราออกมาจากครัวเรือนของบิดาและจากบ้านเกิดเมืองนอนของเรา ผู้ซึ่งได้ตรัสและสัญญากับเราโดยคำปฏิญาณได้ตรัสว่า ‘เราจะมอบดินแดนนี้แก่เชื้อสาย^[b]ของเจ้า’ พระองค์จะทรงให้ทูตของพระองค์นำเจ้าไป เพื่อเจ้าจะหาภรรยาให้ลูกชายของเราจากที่นั่น

If the woman is unwilling to come back with you, then you will be released from this oath of mine. Only do not take my son back there.”

So the servant put his hand under the thigh of his master Abraham and swore an oath to him concerning this matter.

Then the servant left, taking with him ten of his master’s camels loaded with all kinds of good things from his master. He set out for Aram Naharaim^[b] and made his way to the town of Nahor.

แล้วคนรับใช้นั้นจึงนำอูฐของนายสิบตัวบรรทุกของมีค่าทุกประเภทจากนายของเขาออกเดินทางไปอารัมนาหะราอิม และมุ่งหน้าไปยังเมืองของนาโฮร์

He had the camels kneel down near the well outside the town; it was toward evening, the time the women go out to draw water.

Then he prayed, “Lord, God of my master Abraham, make me successful today, and show kindness to my master Abraham.

แล้วเขาอธิษฐานว่า “ข้าแต่พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของอับราฮัมนายของข้าพระองค์ ขอประทานความสำเร็จแก่ข้าพระองค์ในวันนี้ และขอทรงเมตตาอับราฮัมนายของข้าพระองค์ตามที่ทรงสัญญาไว้

See, I am standing beside this spring, and the daughters of the townspeople are coming out to draw water.

ดูเถิด ข้าพระองค์ยืนอยู่ที่ข้างบ่อน้ำนี้ และสาวๆ ในเมืองกำลังออกมาตักน้ำ

May it be that when I say to a young woman, ‘Please let down your jar that I may have a drink,’ and she says, ‘Drink, and I’ll water your camels too’—let her be the one you have chosen for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master.”

ถ้าหากข้าพระองค์พูดกับหญิงสาวคนใดว่า ‘ขอน้ำในถังของเธอให้ฉันดื่มหน่อย’ แล้วนางตอบว่า ‘เชิญดื่มเถิด และฉันจะตักน้ำให้อูฐของท่านด้วย’ ก็ถือว่านางเป็นผู้ที่พระองค์ทรงเลือกสรรไว้ให้อิสอัคผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์ หากเป็นไปตามนี้ ข้าพระองค์ก็จะรู้ว่าพระองค์ได้ทรงเมตตานายของข้าพระองค์แล้ว”

Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of Bethuel son of Milkah, who was the wife of Abraham’s brother Nahor.

The woman was very beautiful, a virgin; no man had ever slept with her. She went down to the spring, filled her jar and came up again.

เรเบคาห์เป็นหญิงงามมาก เป็นสาวพรหมจารี ไม่เคยหลับนอนกับผู้ชาย เธอลงไปที่บ่อน้ำ เติมน้ำเต็มถังแล้วก็ขึ้นมา

The servant hurried to meet her and said, “Please give me a little water from your jar.”

คนรับใช้นั้นรีบวิ่งไปหานางและกล่าวว่า “ขอน้ำในถังของเธอให้ฉันหน่อยเถิด”

“Drink, my lord,” she said, and quickly lowered the jar to her hands and gave him a drink.

นางตอบว่า “นายเจ้าข้า เชิญดื่มเถิด” แล้วนางก็รีบยกถังลงให้เขาดื่มทันที

After she had given him a drink, she said, “I’ll draw water for your camels too, until they have had enough to drink.”

หลังจากให้เขาดื่มน้ำแล้ว นางก็พูดว่า “ฉันจะตักน้ำให้อูฐของท่านกินจนอิ่มด้วย”

So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough, ran back to the well to draw more water, and drew enough for all his camels.

เธอจึงรีบเทน้ำทั้งหมดจากถังลงในราง แล้ววิ่งไปที่บ่อ ตักน้ำให้อูฐจนทุกตัวกินอิ่ม

Without saying a word, the man watched her closely to learn whether or not the Lord had made his journey successful.

ชายนั้นเฝ้าสังเกตดูนางอยู่เงียบๆ เพื่อดูว่าองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าได้ทรงให้การเดินทางของเขาประสบความสำเร็จแล้วหรือไม่

When the camels had finished drinking, the man took out a gold nose ring weighing a beka^[c] and two gold bracelets weighing ten shekels.^[d]

เมื่ออูฐทุกตัวกินน้ำอิ่มแล้ว เขาก็หยิบห่วงจมูกทองคำหนักราวสองสลึง^[c] และกำไลทองคู่หนึ่งหนักราว 7 บาท^[d]ออกมา

Then he asked, “Whose daughter are you? Please tell me, is there room in your father’s house for us to spend the night?”

และเขาถามว่า “เธอเป็นลูกเต้าเหล่าใคร กรุณาบอกฉันเถิดว่าที่บ้านบิดาของเธอมีที่ว่างให้พวกเราพักค้างคืนได้ไหม?”

She answered him, “I am the daughter of Bethuel, the son that Milkah bore to Nahor.”

นางตอบเขาว่า “ฉันเป็นลูกสาวของเบธูเอล บุตรชายของมิลคาห์กับนาโฮร์”

And she added, “We have plenty of straw and fodder, as well as room for you to spend the night.”

และนางกล่าวต่อไปว่า “เรามีฟางกับอาหารสัตว์มากมาย พร้อมทั้งที่ว่างให้ท่านพักค้างคืนด้วย”

Then the man bowed down and worshiped the Lord,

แล้วเขาจึงก้มลงกราบนมัสการองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า

saying, “Praise be to the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not abandoned his kindness and faithfulness to my master. As for me, the Lord has led me on the journey to the house of my master’s relatives.”

และกล่าวว่า “สรรเสริญพระยาห์เวห์ พระเจ้าของอับราฮัมนายของข้าพระองค์ ผู้ไม่ได้ทรงละทิ้งความเมตตาและความซื่อสัตย์ของพระองค์ต่อนายของข้าพระองค์ ส่วนข้าพระองค์นั้น องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าได้ทรงนำข้าพระองค์ให้เดินทางมาถึงบ้านพี่น้องนายของข้าพระองค์”

The young woman ran and told her mother’s household about these things.

นางจึงวิ่งกลับไปบอกเรื่องนี้แก่คนที่บ้านของมารดา

Now Rebekah had a brother named Laban, and he hurried out to the man at the spring.

เรเบคาห์มีพี่ชายคนหนึ่งชื่อลาบัน แล้วลาบันรีบรุดมาพบชายนั้นที่บ่อน้ำ

As soon as he had seen the nose ring, and the bracelets on his sister’s arms, and had heard Rebekah tell what the man said to her, he went out to the man and found him standing by the camels near the spring.

ทันทีที่เขาเห็นห่วงจมูกและกำไลที่ข้อมือของน้องสาว และได้ฟังเรเบคาห์เล่าสิ่งที่ชายคนนั้นพูดกับนางแล้ว เขาก็ออกไปหาชายคนนั้นและพบเขายืนอยู่ข้างบ่อน้ำกับฝูงอูฐ

“Come, you who are blessed by the Lord,” he said. “Why are you standing out here? I have prepared the house and a place for the camels.”

ลาบันกล่าวว่า “มาเถิด ท่านผู้ที่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงอวยพร ทำไมท่านจึงยืนอยู่ข้างนอกตรงนี้? เราได้จัดบ้านไว้และเตรียมที่สำหรับฝูงอูฐแล้ว”

So the man went to the house, and the camels were unloaded. Straw and fodder were brought for the camels, and water for him and his men to wash their feet.

ชายนั้นจึงไปที่บ้าน มีคนมาปลดสัมภาระลงจากฝูงอูฐ ให้ฟางและอาหารแก่พวกมัน และจัดหาน้ำมาให้เขาและคนของเขาล้างเท้า

Then food was set before him, but he said, “I will not eat until I have told you what I have to say.”

“Then tell us,” Laban said.

แล้วยกอาหารมาตั้งตรงหน้าชายนั้น แต่เขากล่าวว่า “ข้าพเจ้าจะยังไม่รับประทานจนกว่าจะได้บอกให้ท่านรู้ถึงสิ่งที่ข้าพเจ้าจำเป็นจะต้องพูด”

So he said, “I am Abraham’s servant.

เขาจึงพูดว่า “ข้าพเจ้าเป็นคนรับใช้ของอับราฮัม

The Lord has blessed my master abundantly, and he has become wealthy. He has given him sheep and cattle, silver and gold, male and female servants, and camels and donkeys.

องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงอวยพรนายของข้าพเจ้าอย่างล้นเหลือ จนท่านกลายเป็นคนมั่งคั่ง พระองค์ประทานฝูงแกะ ฝูงวัว อูฐ ลา เงินและทอง ตลอดจนคนรับใช้ชายหญิง

My master’s wife Sarah has borne him a son in her old age, and he has given him everything he owns.

ต่อมานางซาราห์ภรรยาของนายคลอดลูกชายคนหนึ่งให้นายเมื่อนาง^[e]อายุมากแล้ว และนายยกทรัพย์สมบัติทั้งหมดให้ลูกคนนี้

And my master made me swear an oath, and said, ‘You must not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live,

แล้วนายก็ให้ข้าพเจ้าสาบานและกล่าวว่า ‘เจ้าจะต้องไม่หาลูกสาวของชาวคานาอันซึ่งเป็นเจ้าของดินแดนที่เราอาศัยอยู่นี้มาเป็นภรรยาของลูกชายเรา

but go to my father’s family and to my own clan, and get a wife for my son.’

แต่จงไปยังครอบครัวบิดาของเรา ไปยังญาติพี่น้องของเรา และหาภรรยาให้ลูกชายของเรา’

“Then I asked my master, ‘What if the woman will not come back with me?’

“He replied, ‘The Lord, before whom I have walked faithfully, will send his angel with you and make your journey a success, so that you can get a wife for my son from my own clan and from my father’s family.

“นายตอบว่า ‘องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าผู้ที่เราดำเนินชีวิตอยู่ในทางของพระองค์นั้นจะทรงส่งทูตของพระองค์ไปกับเจ้า และจะทรงทำให้การเดินทางของเจ้าประสบความสำเร็จ เพื่อเจ้าจะสามารถหาภรรยาให้ลูกชายของเราจากญาติพี่น้องของเรา และจากครอบครัวบิดาของเรา

You will be released from my oath if, when you go to my clan, they refuse to give her to you—then you will be released from my oath.’

“When I came to the spring today, I said, ‘Lord, God of my master Abraham, if you will, please grant success to the journey on which I have come.

See, I am standing beside this spring. If a young woman comes out to draw water and I say to her, “Please let me drink a little water from your jar,”

ดูเถิด ข้าพระองค์กำลังยืนอยู่ข้างบ่อน้ำ ถ้าหญิงสาวคนหนึ่งออกมาตักน้ำ และข้าพระองค์พูดกับนางว่า “กรุณาให้ฉันดื่มน้ำจากถังของเธอสักหน่อยเถิด”

and if she says to me, “Drink, and I’ll draw water for your camels too,” let her be the one the Lord has chosen for my master’s son.’

และถ้านางตอบว่า “เชิญดื่มเถิด และฉันจะตักน้ำให้อูฐของท่านด้วย” ก็ขอให้นางเป็นผู้ที่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงเลือกสรรไว้ให้ลูกชายของนายข้าพเจ้า’

“Before I finished praying in my heart, Rebekah came out, with her jar on her shoulder. She went down to the spring and drew water, and I said to her, ‘Please give me a drink.’

“ก่อนที่ข้าพเจ้าจะจบคำอธิษฐานในใจ เรเบคาห์เดินออกมาพร้อมกับแบกถังน้ำบนบ่า นางเดินไปที่บ่อน้ำและตักน้ำ แล้วข้าพเจ้าก็พูดกับนางว่า ‘ขอน้ำให้ฉันดื่มหน่อยเถิด’

“She quickly lowered her jar from her shoulder and said, ‘Drink, and I’ll water your camels too.’ So I drank, and she watered the camels also.

“นางก็รีบยกถังลงมาจากบ่าและบอกว่า ‘เชิญดื่มเถิด และฉันจะตักน้ำให้ฝูงอูฐของท่านด้วย’ ดังนั้นข้าพเจ้าจึงดื่ม และนางก็ตักน้ำให้ฝูงอูฐด้วย

“I asked her, ‘Whose daughter are you?’

“She said, ‘The daughter of Bethuel son of Nahor, whom Milkah bore to him.’

“Then I put the ring in her nose and the bracelets on her arms,

“ข้าพเจ้าถามนางว่า ‘เธอเป็นลูกเต้าเหล่าใคร?’

“นางก็ตอบว่า ‘เป็นลูกสาวของเบธูเอล ผู้เป็นบุตรของนาโฮร์กับมิลคาห์’

“ข้าพเจ้าจึงสวมห่วงที่จมูกของนางและสวมกำไลที่แขนของนาง

and I bowed down and worshiped the Lord. I praised the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me on the right road to get the granddaughter of my master’s brother for his son.

แล้วข้าพเจ้าก็ก้มลงกราบนมัสการองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าข้าพเจ้าสรรเสริญพระยาห์เวห์ พระเจ้าของอับราฮัมนายของข้าพเจ้า พระองค์ทรงนำข้าพเจ้ามาถูกทางเพื่อจะได้นำหลานสาวของน้องชายนายข้าพเจ้าไปให้แก่ลูกชายของเขา

Now if you will show kindness and faithfulness to my master, tell me; and if not, tell me, so I may know which way to turn.”

บัดนี้ ถ้าท่านจะกรุณานายของข้าพเจ้า ขอบอกข้าพเจ้า และถ้าท่านจะปฏิเสธ ก็โปรดบอกข้าพเจ้าเถิด เพื่อข้าพเจ้าจะได้รู้ว่าควรทำอย่างไรต่อไป”

Laban and Bethuel answered, “This is from the Lord; we can say nothing to you one way or the other.

ลาบันกับเบธูเอลจึงตอบว่า “เรื่องนี้เป็นมาจากองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าไม่ว่าจะดีหรือร้ายก็ขอให้เป็นไปตามนั้น

Here is Rebekah; take her and go, and let her become the wife of your master’s son, as the Lord has directed.”

เรเบคาห์อยู่นี่ พานางไปเถิด ให้นางไปเป็นภรรยาลูกชายเจ้านายของท่าน ตามที่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงนำ”

When Abraham’s servant heard what they said, he bowed down to the ground before the Lord.

เมื่อคนรับใช้ของอับราฮัมได้ยินเช่นนั้นก็ก้มกราบลงถึงพื้นนมัสการองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า

Then the servant brought out gold and silver jewelry and articles of clothing and gave them to Rebekah; he also gave costly gifts to her brother and to her mother.

แล้วคนรับใช้หยิบแก้วแหวนเงินทองและเสื้อผ้าอาภรณ์ให้นางเรเบคาห์ และให้ของขวัญล้ำค่าต่างๆ แก่พี่ชายและมารดาของนาง

Then he and the men who were with him ate and drank and spent the night there.

When they got up the next morning, he said, “Send me on my way to my master.”

แล้วคนรับใช้นั้นกับคนของเขาก็กินดื่มและพักค้างคืนที่นั่น

เมื่อพวกเขาตื่นขึ้นในเช้าวันต่อมา คนรับใช้นั้นจึงกล่าวว่า “โปรดส่งข้าพเจ้ากลับไปหานายของข้าพเจ้าเถิด”

But her brother and her mother replied, “Let the young woman remain with us ten days or so; then you^[e] may go.”

แต่พี่ชายและมารดาของเรเบคาห์ตอบว่า “ขอให้นางอยู่กับเราอีกสักสิบวันแล้วท่าน^[f]ค่อยไป”

But he said to them, “Do not detain me, now that the Lord has granted success to my journey. Send me on my way so I may go to my master.”

แต่คนรับใช้นั้นกล่าวกับพวกเขาว่า “อย่ารั้งข้าพเจ้าไว้เลย ในเมื่อองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าประทานความสำเร็จแก่การเดินทางของข้าพเจ้าแล้ว ขอได้ส่งข้าพเจ้ากลับไปหานายของข้าพเจ้าเถิด”

Then they said, “Let’s call the young woman and ask her about it.”

แล้วพวกเขาจึงกล่าวว่า “ให้เราเรียกนางมาถามดู”

So they called Rebekah and asked her, “Will you go with this man?”

“I will go,” she said.

So they sent their sister Rebekah on her way, along with her nurse and Abraham’s servant and his men.

And they blessed Rebekah and said to her,

Then Rebekah and her attendants got ready and mounted the camels and went back with the man. So the servant took Rebekah and left.

Now Isaac had come from Beer Lahai Roi, for he was living in the Negev.

ฝ่ายอิสอัคกลับมาจากเบเออร์ลาไฮรอย เพราะเขาอยู่ในเนเกบ

He went out to the field one evening to meditate,^[f] and as he looked up, he saw camels approaching.

เย็นวันหนึ่งเขาออกไปที่ท้องทุ่ง เดินคิดใคร่ครวญอยู่ และเมื่อเขาเงยหน้าขึ้นก็เห็นขบวนอูฐกำลังเคลื่อนเข้ามา

Rebekah also looked up and saw Isaac. She got down from her camel

เรเบคาห์ก็เงยหน้าขึ้นมองเห็นอิสอัค นางลงมาจากอูฐ

and asked the servant, “Who is that man in the field coming to meet us?”

“He is my master,” the servant answered. So she took her veil and covered herself.

และถามคนรับใช้นั้นว่า “ชายคนที่เดินลัดทุ่งมาหาเรานั้นคือใคร?”

คนรับใช้นั้นตอบว่า “ท่านเป็นนายของข้าพเจ้า” นางจึงหยิบผ้ามาคลุมหน้า

Then the servant told Isaac all he had done.

แล้วคนรับใช้นั้นก็เล่าทุกสิ่งที่เขาทำให้อิสอัคฟัง

Isaac brought her into the tent of his mother Sarah, and he married Rebekah. So she became his wife, and he loved her; and Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.

อิสอัคก็นำเรเบคาห์เข้าไปในเต็นท์ที่ซาราห์ผู้เป็นมารดาของเขาเคยอาศัย และแต่งงานกับเรเบคาห์ ดังนั้นนางจึงมาเป็นภรรยาของเขา และเขารักนาง และอิสอัคก็คลายความเศร้าโศกที่มารดาของเขาเสียชีวิต
