Genesis 21

Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised.

องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงเสด็จมาโปรดซาราห์ตามที่ตรัสไว้ และองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงทำตามสัญญาที่ให้แก่ซาราห์ไว้

Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him.

ซาราห์ตั้งครรภ์และให้กำเนิดบุตรชายแก่อับราฮัมเมื่อเขาชราแล้ว ตรงตามเวลาที่พระเจ้าได้ทรงสัญญาไว้กับเขา

Abraham gave the name Isaac^[a] to the son Sarah bore him.

อับราฮัมตั้งชื่อบุตรที่ซาราห์คลอดให้ว่าอิสอัค^[a]

When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God commanded him.

เมื่ออิสอัคบุตรของเขาอายุครบแปดวัน อับราฮัมให้เขาเข้าสุหนัตตามที่พระเจ้าทรงบัญชาไว้

Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.

เมื่ออิสอัคบุตรของเขาเกิดมา อับราฮัมอายุได้หนึ่งร้อยปี

Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.”

ซาราห์กล่าวว่า “พระเจ้าทรงทำให้ฉันหัวเราะ ทุกคนที่ได้ยินเรื่องนี้จะพลอยหัวเราะไปกับฉันด้วย”

And she added, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”

Hagar and Ishmael Sent Away

และนางกล่าวอีกว่า “ใครจะคิดว่าซาราห์จะมีลูกให้กับอับราฮัม? แต่ฉันก็ได้คลอดลูกชายให้เขาเมื่อเขาชราแล้ว”

นางฮาการ์กับอิชมาเอลถูกขับไล่ออกจากบ้าน

The child grew and was weaned, and on the day Isaac was weaned Abraham held a great feast.

เด็กนั้นก็เติบโตขึ้นและหย่านม ในวันที่อิสอัคหย่านม อับราฮัมจัดงานเลี้ยงใหญ่

But Sarah saw that the son whom Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham was mocking,

แต่ซาราห์เห็นบุตรของนางฮาการ์ชาวอียิปต์ที่เกิดแก่อับราฮัมกำลังหัวเราะเยาะ

and she said to Abraham, “Get rid of that slave woman and her son, for that woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with my son Isaac.”

นางจึงพูดกับอับราฮัมว่า “จงไล่เมียทาสกับลูกของนางไปเถิด เพราะลูกของเมียทาสคนนั้นจะไม่มีวันมีส่วนร่วมในกองมรดกกับอิสอัคลูกชายของฉัน”

The matter distressed Abraham greatly because it concerned his son.

เรื่องนี้ทำให้อับราฮัมทุกข์ใจมากเพราะเกี่ยวข้องกับบุตรชายของเขา

But God said to him, “Do not be so distressed about the boy and your slave woman. Listen to whatever Sarah tells you, because it is through Isaac that your offspring^[b] will be reckoned.

แต่พระเจ้าตรัสกับเขาว่า “อย่าทุกข์ใจเรื่องเด็กคนนั้นกับเมียทาสของเจ้าเลย จงทำตามที่ซาราห์บอก เพราะเชื้อสาย^[b]ของเจ้าจะนับทางอิสอัค

I will make the son of the slave into a nation also, because he is your offspring.”

และเราจะให้ชนชาติหนึ่งสืบเชื้อสายจากลูกของเมียทาสคนนี้ด้วย เพราะเขาก็เป็นเชื้อสายของเจ้าเหมือนกัน”

Early the next morning Abraham took some food and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar. He set them on her shoulders and then sent her off with the boy. She went on her way and wandered in the Desert of Beersheba.

เช้าตรู่วันรุ่งขึ้นอับราฮัมก็เอาอาหารและน้ำหนึ่งถุงหนังใส่บ่าของฮาการ์ แล้วส่งนางออกไปพร้อมกับบุตรชาย นางก็ระเหเร่ร่อนเข้าไปในถิ่นกันดารเบเออร์เชบา

When the water in the skin was gone, she put the boy under one of the bushes.

เมื่อน้ำในถุงหนังหมดแล้ว นางจึงทิ้งลูกชายไว้ใต้พุ่มไม้

Then she went off and sat down about a bowshot away, for she thought, “I cannot watch the boy die.” And as she sat there, she^[c] began to sob.

แล้วเดินหนีไปนั่งอยู่ไม่ไกล ห่างออกไปประมาณระยะยิงธนูตก เพราะนางคิดว่า “ฉันไม่อาจทนดูลูกตายไป” และขณะนั่งอยู่ที่นั่น นาง^[c]ก็เริ่มร้องไห้สะอึกสะอื้น

God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he lies there.

พระเจ้าทรงได้ยินเสียงร้องของเด็กหนุ่ม ทูตของพระเจ้าเรียกฮาการ์จากฟ้าสวรรค์และพูดกับนางว่า “ฮาการ์เอ๋ย มีเรื่องอะไรหรือ? อย่ากลัวเลย พระเจ้าทรงได้ยินเสียงร้องของเด็กที่นอนอยู่ตรงนั้นแล้ว

Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.”

จงไปประคองเขาขึ้นและจูงมือเขาไป เพราะเราจะทำให้เขาเป็นชาติใหญ่ชาติหนึ่ง”

Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. So she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink.

แล้วพระเจ้าทรงเบิกตาของนาง นางก็เห็นบ่อน้ำแห่งหนึ่ง จึงไปเติมน้ำเต็มถุงหนังและให้เด็กหนุ่มนั้นดื่ม

God was with the boy as he grew up. He lived in the desert and became an archer.

พระเจ้าสถิตกับเด็กหนุ่มคนนั้น ขณะที่เขาเติบโตขึ้น เขาอาศัยในถิ่นกันดารและกลายเป็นนักยิงธนู

While he was living in the Desert of Paran, his mother got a wife for him from Egypt.

The Treaty at Beersheba

ขณะเขาอาศัยในถิ่นกันดารแห่งปาราน มารดาได้หาหญิงสาวจากอียิปต์มาเป็นภรรยาของเขา

สนธิสัญญาที่เบเออร์เชบา

At that time Abimelek and Phicol the commander of his forces said to Abraham, “God is with you in everything you do.

ครั้งนั้น อาบีเมเลคกับแม่ทัพฟีโคล์กล่าวกับอับราฮัมว่า “พระเจ้าสถิตกับท่านในทุกสิ่งที่ท่านทำ

Now swear to me here before God that you will not deal falsely with me or my children or my descendants. Show to me and the country where you now reside as a foreigner the same kindness I have shown to you.”

บัดนี้ขอให้ท่านปฏิญาณต่อหน้าพระเจ้าเถิดว่าท่านจะไม่หลอกเรา ไม่หลอกลูกหลานหรือเชื้อสายของเรา ให้จงรักภักดีต่อเราและต่อบ้านเมืองซึ่งท่านมาอาศัยเป็นคนต่างด้าวอยู่นี้เหมือนที่เราจงรักภักดีต่อท่าน”

Abraham said, “I swear it.”

อับราฮัมกล่าวว่า “ข้าพเจ้าขอปฏิญาณ”

Then Abraham complained to Abimelek about a well of water that Abimelek’s servants had seized.

แล้วอับราฮัมจึงร้องทุกข์ต่ออาบีเมเลคเรื่องบ่อน้ำแห่งหนึ่งที่บริวารของอาบีเมเลคยึดไป

But Abimelek said, “I don’t know who has done this. You did not tell me, and I heard about it only today.”

แต่อาบีเมเลคตอบว่า “เราไม่รู้ว่าใครทำเช่นนั้น ท่านไม่ได้บอกเรา และเราเพิ่งได้ยินเรื่องนี้วันนี้เอง”

So Abraham brought sheep and cattle and gave them to Abimelek, and the two men made a treaty.

อับราฮัมจึงยกแกะและวัวให้อาบีเมเลค และชายทั้งสองก็ทำสนธิสัญญากัน

Abraham set apart seven ewe lambs from the flock,

อับราฮัมคัดลูกแกะตัวเมียเจ็ดตัวออกจากฝูง

and Abimelek asked Abraham, “What is the meaning of these seven ewe lambs you have set apart by themselves?”

และอาบีเมเลคก็ถามอับราฮัมว่า “ลูกแกะตัวเมียเจ็ดตัวที่ท่านคัดออกมานี้มีความหมายอะไร?”

He replied, “Accept these seven lambs from my hand as a witness that I dug this well.”

เขาตอบว่า “ขอจงรับลูกแกะเจ็ดตัวนี้จากมือข้าพเจ้าเพื่อเป็นพยานหลักฐานว่าข้าพเจ้าเป็นผู้ขุดบ่อน้ำนี้”

So that place was called Beersheba,^[d] because the two men swore an oath there.

ที่แห่งนั้นจึงได้ชื่อว่าเบเออร์เชบา^[d]เพราะทั้งสองได้ปฏิญาณร่วมกันที่นั่น

After the treaty had been made at Beersheba, Abimelek and Phicol the commander of his forces returned to the land of the Philistines.

หลังจากทำสนธิสัญญาที่เบเออร์เชบาแล้ว อาบีเมเลคกับแม่ทัพฟีโคล์ก็กลับสู่ดินแดนฟีลิสเตีย

Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he called on the name of the Lord, the Eternal God.

อับราฮัมได้ปลูกต้นสนหมอกต้นหนึ่งในเบเออร์เชบาและนมัสการร้องออกพระนามพระยาห์เวห์ พระเจ้าองค์นิรันดร์

And Abraham stayed in the land of the Philistines for a long time.

และอับราฮัมก็อาศัยอยู่ในดินแดนของชาวฟีลิสเตียเป็นเวลานาน
