Genesis 20

Now Abraham moved on from there into the region of the Negev and lived between Kadesh and Shur. For a while he stayed in Gerar,

and there Abraham said of his wife Sarah, “She is my sister.” Then Abimelek king of Gerar sent for Sarah and took her.

ที่นั่น อับราฮัมบอกใครต่อใครเกี่ยวกับซาราห์ภรรยาของเขาว่า “นางคือน้องสาวของข้าพเจ้า” กษัตริย์อาบีเมเลคแห่งเกราร์จึงส่งคนมารับนางไป

But God came to Abimelek in a dream one night and said to him, “You are as good as dead because of the woman you have taken; she is a married woman.”

แต่ในคืนหนึ่ง พระเจ้าเสด็จมาหาอาบีเมเลคในความฝันและตรัสกับเขาว่า “เจ้าจะต้องตายแน่! เพราะหญิงคนนั้นซึ่งเจ้าพามามีสามีแล้ว”

Now Abimelek had not gone near her, so he said, “Lord, will you destroy an innocent nation?

แต่อาบีเมเลคยังไม่ได้เข้าหานางเลย เขาจึงทูลว่า “ข้าแต่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า พระองค์จะทรงทำลายชนชาติที่ไม่ผิดหรือ?

Did he not say to me, ‘She is my sister,’ and didn’t she also say, ‘He is my brother’? I have done this with a clear conscience and clean hands.”

เขาไม่ได้บอกข้าพระองค์หรอกหรือว่า ‘นางเป็นน้องสาวของข้าพเจ้า’ และนางเองก็ไม่ได้พูดด้วยหรอกหรือว่า ‘เขาเป็นพี่ชายของข้าพเจ้า’? ข้าพระองค์ทำไปด้วยใจซื่อมือสะอาด”

Then God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know you did this with a clear conscience, and so I have kept you from sinning against me. That is why I did not let you touch her.

พระเจ้าตรัสกับเขาในความฝันว่า “ถูกแล้ว เรารู้ว่าเจ้าทำไปด้วยใจซื่อ เหตุนี้แหละเราจึงปกป้องเจ้าไว้ไม่ให้ทำบาปต่อเรา นี่เป็นเหตุที่เราไม่ปล่อยให้เจ้าแตะต้องตัวนาง

Now return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not return her, you may be sure that you and all who belong to you will die.”

บัดนี้จงคืนภรรยาของชายผู้นั้นกลับไป เพราะเขาเป็นผู้เผยพระวจนะ แล้วเขาจะอธิษฐานเผื่อเจ้า แล้วเจ้าจะรอดชีวิต แต่ถ้าเจ้าไม่ยอมคืนนาง เจ้าก็แน่ใจได้เลยว่าเจ้ากับคนของเจ้าทั้งหมดจะต้องตาย”

Early the next morning Abimelek summoned all his officials, and when he told them all that had happened, they were very much afraid.

เช้าตรู่วันรุ่งขึ้นอาบีเมเลคเรียกประชุมข้าราชสำนักทั้งหมดและแจ้งพวกเขาให้ทราบถึงเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้น คนทั้งปวงก็กลัวยิ่งนัก

Then Abimelek called Abraham in and said, “What have you done to us? How have I wronged you that you have brought such great guilt upon me and my kingdom? You have done things to me that should never be done.”

อาบีเมเลคจึงเรียกอับราฮัมมาถามว่า “ทำไมท่านทำกับเราอย่างนี้? เราทำผิดอะไรต่อท่านหรือ? ท่านจึงนำความผิดใหญ่หลวงมาตกกับเราและอาณาจักรของเรา? ท่านไม่ควรทำกับเราเช่นนี้เลย”

And Abimelek asked Abraham, “What was your reason for doing this?”

อาบีเมเลคถามอับราฮัมว่า “เหตุใดท่านจึงทำเช่นนี้?”

Abraham replied, “I said to myself, ‘There is surely no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.’

อับราฮัมตอบว่า “ข้าพเจ้าบอกตัวเองว่า ‘ผู้คนที่นี่ไม่เกรงกลัวพระเจ้าแน่ๆ พวกเขาจะฆ่าเราเพราะอยากได้ภรรยาของเรา’

Besides, she really is my sister, the daughter of my father though not of my mother; and she became my wife.

นอกจากนี้นางก็เป็นน้องสาวของข้าพเจ้าจริงๆ นางเป็นน้องต่างมารดาของข้าพเจ้า และนางได้มาเป็นภรรยาของข้าพเจ้า

And when God had me wander from my father’s household, I said to her, ‘This is how you can show your love to me: Everywhere we go, say of me, “He is my brother.”’”

เมื่อพระเจ้าให้ข้าพเจ้ารอนแรมออกจากครัวเรือนของบิดา ข้าพเจ้าบอกนางว่า ‘ถ้าเจ้ารักเรา ไม่ว่าไปที่ไหนขอให้เจ้าบอกว่า “เขาเป็นพี่ชายของฉัน” ’ ”

Then Abimelek brought sheep and cattle and male and female slaves and gave them to Abraham, and he returned Sarah his wife to him.

อาบีเมเลคจึงยกฝูงแกะ ฝูงวัว และข้าทาสชายหญิงให้แก่อับราฮัม และคืนนางซาราห์ผู้เป็นภรรยาให้แก่เขา

And Abimelek said, “My land is before you; live wherever you like.”

อาบีเมเลคกล่าวว่า “ดินแดนของเราอยู่ตรงหน้าท่าน จะอาศัยอยู่ที่ไหนก็ได้ตามใจชอบ”

To Sarah he said, “I am giving your brother a thousand shekels^[a] of silver. This is to cover the offense against you before all who are with you; you are completely vindicated.”

แล้วเขากล่าวกับซาราห์ว่า “เราขอมอบเงินหนึ่งพันเชเขล^[a]แก่พี่ชายของเจ้า เป็นค่าทำขวัญต่อหน้าทุกคนที่อยู่กับเจ้า เจ้าไม่มีมลทินใดๆ เลย”

Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelek, his wife and his female slaves so they could have children again,

จากนั้นอับราฮัมก็อธิษฐานต่อพระเจ้า และพระเจ้าก็ทรงรักษาอาบีเมเลค ชายา และทาสหญิงของเขา ให้พวกเขาสามารถมีบุตรได้อีกครั้งหนึ่ง

for the Lord had kept all the women in Abimelek’s household from conceiving because of Abraham’s wife Sarah.
