Verse 1

So Israel set out with all that was his, and when he reached Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

Israel a pornit în călătorie cu tot ce avea, iar când a ajuns la Beer-Şeba, a adus jertfe Dumnezeului tatălui său, Isaac.

Verse 2

And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said, “Jacob! Jacob!”

“Here I am,” he replied.

Dumnezeu i-a vorbit lui Israel într-o vedenie de noapte şi i-a zis:

– Iacove, Iacove!

– Iată-mă! a răspuns el.

Verse 3

“I am God, the God of your father,” he said. “Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there.

– Eu sunt Dumnezeu, Dumnezeul tatălui tău; nu te teme să te duci în Egipt, pentru că acolo te voi face un neam mare.

Verse 4

I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again. And Joseph’s own hand will close your eyes.”

Eu Însumi voi merge cu tine în Egipt şi te voi aduce înapoi, iar Iosif îţi va închide ochii.

Verse 5

Then Jacob left Beersheba, and Israel’s sons took their father Jacob and their children and their wives in the carts that Pharaoh had sent to transport him.

Verse 6

So Jacob and all his offspring went to Egypt, taking with them their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in Canaan.

Verse 7

Jacob brought with him to Egypt his sons and grandsons and his daughters and granddaughters—all his offspring.

Verse 8

These are the names of the sons of Israel (Jacob and his descendants) who went to Egypt:

Reuben the firstborn of Jacob.

Verse 9

The sons of Reuben:

Hanok, Pallu, Hezron and Karmi.

The sons of Simeon:

Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman.

Verse 11

The sons of Levi:

Gershon, Kohath and Merari.

Fiii lui Levi: Gherşon, Chehat şi Merari.

Verse 12

The sons of Judah:

Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez and Zerah (but Er and Onan had died in the land of Canaan).

The sons of Perez:

Hezron and Hamul.

Fiii lui Iuda: Er, Onan, Şela, Pereţ şi Zerah; dar Er şi Onan au murit în Canaan. Fiii lui Pereţ au fost Heţron şi Hamul.

Verse 13

The sons of Issachar:

Tola, Puah,^[a] Jashub^[b] and Shimron.

Verse 14

The sons of Zebulun:

Sered, Elon and Jahleel.

Fiii lui Zabulon: Sered, Elon şi Iahleel.

Verse 15

These were the sons Leah bore to Jacob in Paddan Aram,^[c] besides his daughter Dinah. These sons and daughters of his were thirty-three in all.

Aceştia au fost fiii Leei, pe care ea i-a născut lui Iacov în Padan-Aram; ea îi mai născuse şi o fiică, pe nume Dina. Toţi fiii şi fiicele sale au fost în număr de treizeci şi trei.

Verse 16

The sons of Gad:

Zephon,^[d] Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi and Areli.

Fiii lui Gad: Ţifion^[c], Haghi, Şuni, Eţbon, Eri, Arodi şi Areli.

Verse 17

The sons of Asher:

Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi and Beriah.

Their sister was Serah.

The sons of Beriah:

Heber and Malkiel.

Fiii lui Aşer: Imna, Işva, Işvi şi Beria. Sora lor a fost Serah. Fiii lui Beria: Heber şi Malchiel.

Verse 18

These were the children born to Jacob by Zilpah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Leah—sixteen in all.

Verse 19

The sons of Jacob’s wife Rachel:

Joseph and Benjamin.

Verse 20

In Egypt, Manasseh and Ephraim were born to Joseph by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On.^[e]

În ţara Egiptului, lui Iosif i s-au născut Manase şi Efraim pe care i i-a născut Asnat, fiica lui Poti-Fera, preotul din On^[d].

Verse 21

The sons of Benjamin:

Bela, Beker, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim and Ard.

Fiii lui Beniamin: Bela, Becher, Aşbel, Ghera, Naaman, Ehi, Roş, Mupim, Hupim şi Ard.

Verse 22

These were the sons of Rachel who were born to Jacob—fourteen in all.

Aceştia au fost fiii Rahelei, care i s-au născut lui Iacov, fiind în total paisprezece persoane.

Verse 23

The son of Dan:

Hushim.

Fiul lui Dan: Huşim.

Verse 24

The sons of Naphtali:

Jahziel, Guni, Jezer and Shillem.

Fiii lui Neftali: Iahţeel, Guni, Ieţer şi Şilem.

Verse 25

These were the sons born to Jacob by Bilhah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Rachel—seven in all.

Aceştia au fost copiii Bilhei, pe care Laban i-a dat-o fiicei sale Rahela; pe aceştia i-a născut ea lui Iacov, fiind în total şapte persoane.

Verse 26

All those who went to Egypt with Jacob—those who were his direct descendants, not counting his sons’ wives—numbered sixty-six persons.

Toţi cei care au mers cu Iacov în Egipt, care erau urmaşii lui direcţi, fără a socoti soţiile fiilor săi, erau în total şaizeci şi şase de persoane.

Verse 27

With the two sons^[f] who had been born to Joseph in Egypt, the members of Jacob’s family, which went to Egypt, were seventy^[g] in all.

Lui Iosif i s-au născut doi fii^[e] în Egipt; astfel, toţi cei din familia lui Iacov, care au venit în Egipt, erau şaptezeci^[f].

Verse 28

Now Jacob sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to get directions to Goshen. When they arrived in the region of Goshen,

Verse 29

Joseph had his chariot made ready and went to Goshen to meet his father Israel. As soon as Joseph appeared before him, he threw his arms around his father^[h] and wept for a long time.

Verse 30

Israel said to Joseph, “Now I am ready to die, since I have seen for myself that you are still alive.”

Verse 31

Then Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, “I will go up and speak to Pharaoh and will say to him, ‘My brothers and my father’s household, who were living in the land of Canaan, have come to me.

Iosif le-a zis fraţilor săi şi familiei tatălui său: „Mă duc la Faraon să-i spun: «Fraţii mei şi familia tatălui meu, care erau în Canaan, au venit la mine.

Verse 32

The men are shepherds; they tend livestock, and they have brought along their flocks and herds and everything they own.’

Aceşti oameni sunt păstori, deoarece cresc vite; ei şi-au adus turmele, cirezile şi tot ceea ce au.»

Verse 33

When Pharaoh calls you in and asks, ‘What is your occupation?’

Când Faraon vă va chema şi vă va întreba despre ocupaţia voastră,

Verse 34

you should answer, ‘Your servants have tended livestock from our boyhood on, just as our fathers did.’ Then you will be allowed to settle in the region of Goshen, for all shepherds are detestable to the Egyptians.”

voi să-i răspundeţi că sunteţi păstori încă din tinereţe, asemenea strămoşilor voştri. Astfel, veţi putea locui în ţinutul Goşen, pentru că toţi păstorii sunt detestaţi de către egipteni.“
