Genesis 45

Then Joseph could no longer control himself before all his attendants, and he cried out, “Have everyone leave my presence!” So there was no one with Joseph when he made himself known to his brothers.

Atunci Iosif nu s-a mai putut stăpâni înaintea tuturor celor ce se aflau acolo şi a poruncit: „Să iasă toată lumea afară!“ Astfel, nici unul n-a rămas cu el atunci când Iosif s-a făcut cunoscut fraţilor săi.

And he wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him, and Pharaoh’s household heard about it.

Şi a plâns atât de tare, încât l-au auzit şi egiptenii, şi curtea lui Faraon.

Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still living?” But his brothers were not able to answer him, because they were terrified at his presence.

Iosif le-a zis fraţilor săi: „Eu sunt! Iosif! Mai trăieşte tatăl meu?“ Dar fraţii săi nu i-au putut răspunde, pentru că au înlemnit în prezenţa sa.

Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Come close to me.” When they had done so, he said, “I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt!

Atunci Iosif le-a zis fraţilor săi: „Apropiaţi-vă de mine!“ Ei s-au apropiat de el, iar el le-a zis: „Eu sunt fratele vostru Iosif, cel pe care l-aţi vândut în Egipt!

And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.

Acum nu vă întristaţi şi nu vă mâniaţi pe voi înşivă pentru că m-aţi vândut aici, fiindcă Dumnezeu m-a trimis înaintea voastră pentru a vă păstra în viaţă^[a].

For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will be no plowing and reaping.

Deoarece foametea durează de doi ani pe pământ şi vor mai fi încă cinci ani în care nu se va ara şi nu se va secera,

But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.^[a]

Dumnezeu m-a trimis înaintea voastră pentru a vă păstra o rămăşiţă pe pământ şi pentru a vă salva vieţile printr-o mare izbăvire.

“So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt.

Aşadar, nu voi m-aţi trimis aici, ci Dumnezeu; El m-a făcut tată pentru Faraon, stăpân al curţii sale şi domnitor peste toată ţara Egiptului.

Now hurry back to my father and say to him, ‘This is what your son Joseph says: God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me; don’t delay.

Duceţi-vă repede la tatăl meu şi spuneţi-i că aşa vorbeşte fiul său Iosif: «Dumnezeu m-a făcut stăpân peste tot Egiptul; vino la mine fără întârziere.

You shall live in the region of Goshen and be near me—you, your children and grandchildren, your flocks and herds, and all you have.

Vei locui în ţinutul Goşen^[b] şi vei fi lângă mine, tu, copiii tăi, nepoţii tăi, turmele, cirezile tale şi tot ceea ce este al tău.

I will provide for you there, because five years of famine are still to come. Otherwise you and your household and all who belong to you will become destitute.’

Acolo îţi voi purta de grijă, căci mai sunt încă cinci ani de foamete, pentru ca să nu sărăceşti tu, familia ta şi gospodăria ta.»

“You can see for yourselves, and so can my brother Benjamin, that it is really I who am speaking to you.

Voi înşivă şi fratele meu Beniamin vedeţi că eu sunt cel care vă vorbeşte.

Tell my father about all the honor accorded me in Egypt and about everything you have seen. And bring my father down here quickly.”

Să-i spuneţi tatălui meu despre toată gloria pe care o am în Egipt şi despre tot ce aţi văzut; grăbiţi-vă şi aduceţi-l pe tatăl meu aici.“

Then he threw his arms around his brother Benjamin and wept, and Benjamin embraced him, weeping.

Apoi l-a îmbrăţişat pe fratele său Beniamin şi a plâns, în timp ce Beniamin plângea şi el pe umărul lui.

And he kissed all his brothers and wept over them. Afterward his brothers talked with him.

Iosif i-a sărutat pe toţi fraţii săi şi a plâns pe umerii lor; după aceea fraţii săi au vorbit cu el.

When the news reached Pharaoh’s palace that Joseph’s brothers had come, Pharaoh and all his officials were pleased.

Când Faraon şi slujitorii săi au auzit că au venit fraţii lui Iosif, s-au bucurat.

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Tell your brothers, ‘Do this: Load your animals and return to the land of Canaan,

Faraon i-a poruncit lui Iosif să le spună fraţilor săi următoarele: „Încărcaţi-vă animalele şi întoarceţi-vă în Canaan.

and bring your father and your families back to me. I will give you the best of the land of Egypt and you can enjoy the fat of the land.’

Luaţi-l pe tatăl vostru şi familiile voastre şi veniţi la mine; eu vă voi da ce este mai bun în ţara Egiptului şi veţi mânca ce este mai bun în ţară.“

“You are also directed to tell them, ‘Do this: Take some carts from Egypt for your children and your wives, and get your father and come.

El i-a poruncit să le mai spună astfel: „Luaţi din ţara Egiptului nişte care pentru copiii şi soţiile voastre, luaţi-l pe tatăl vostru şi veniţi.

Never mind about your belongings, because the best of all Egypt will be yours.’”

Nu vă gândiţi la bunurile voastre, pentru că tot ce este mai bun în Egipt va fi al vostru.“

So the sons of Israel did this. Joseph gave them carts, as Pharaoh had commanded, and he also gave them provisions for their journey.

Fiii lui Israel au făcut întocmai. Iosif le-a dat care după porunca lui Faraon şi provizii pentru drum.

To each of them he gave new clothing, but to Benjamin he gave three hundred shekels^[b] of silver and five sets of clothes.

Fiecăruia i-a dat câte un rând de haine, dar lui Beniamin i-a dat trei sute de şecheli de argint^[c] şi cinci rânduri de haine.

And this is what he sent to his father: ten donkeys loaded with the best things of Egypt, and ten female donkeys loaded with grain and bread and other provisions for his journey.

Tatălui său i-a trimis zece măgari încărcaţi cu ce era mai bun în Egipt şi zece măgăriţe încărcate cu grâne, pâine şi provizii pentru drum.

Then he sent his brothers away, and as they were leaving he said to them, “Don’t quarrel on the way!”

Iosif i-a trimis pe fraţii săi şi la despărţire le-a zis: „Să nu vă certaţi^[d] pe drum!“

So they went up out of Egypt and came to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan.

Ei au plecat din Egipt, s-au dus la tatăl lor, Iacov, în Canaan

They told him, “Joseph is still alive! In fact, he is ruler of all Egypt.” Jacob was stunned; he did not believe them.

şi i-au zis: „Iosif trăieşte! Chiar el este domnitor peste toată ţara Egiptului!“ Însă inima lui Iacov a rămas rece, pentru că nu-i credea.

But when they told him everything Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the carts Joseph had sent to carry him back, the spirit of their father Jacob revived.

Dar când i-au istorisit tot ceea ce le spusese Iosif şi când a văzut carele pe care le trimisese Iosif să-l ducă, duhul tatălui lor, Iacov, s-a înviorat.

And Israel said, “I’m convinced! My son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.”

Israel a zis: „Destul! Iosif, fiul meu, încă trăieşte. Trebuie să merg să-l văd înainte de a muri.“
