Verse 1
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
Şarpele era mai şiret[a] decât toate fiarele câmpului, pe care Domnul Dumnezeu le făcuse. El i-a spus femeii:
– A zis oare Dumnezeu: „Să nu mâncaţi din orice pom din grădină.“?
Verse 2
The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,
– Putem să mâncăm din rodul pomilor din grădină, i-a răspuns femeia şarpelui,
Verse 3
but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
dar Dumnezeu a zis: „Să nu mâncaţi din rodul pomului care este în mijlocul grădinii; nici să nu-l atingeţi, pentru că veţi muri negreşit!“
Verse 4
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.
Dar şarpele i-a zis femeii:
– Nu veţi muri nicidecum!
Verse 5
“For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Dimpotrivă, Dumnezeu ştie că, atunci când veţi mânca din el, vi se vor deschide ochii şi veţi fi ca Dumnezeu, cunoscând binele şi răul.
Verse 6
When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
Când a văzut că rodul pomului era bun de mâncat, plăcut la înfăţişare şi de dorit să facă pe cineva înţelept, femeia a luat din rodul lui şi a mâncat; i-a dat şi soţului ei, care era cu ea, şi a mâncat şi el.
Verse 7
Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
Atunci li s-au deschis ochii, şi-au dat seama că sunt goi, au cusut laolaltă frunze de smochin şi şi-au făcut învelitori cu ele.
Verse 8
Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
Ei au auzit glasul Domnului Dumnezeu, Care umbla prin grădină în adierea amurgului[b] şi s-au ascuns de Domnul Dumnezeu printre pomii din grădină.
Verse 9
But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
Dar Domnul Dumnezeu l-a chemat pe Adam şi i-a zis:
– Unde eşti?
Verse 10
He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
– Am auzit glasul Tău în grădină, a răspuns el, dar mi-a fost teamă pentru că eram gol; de aceea m-am ascuns.
Verse 11
And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”
Dumnezeu l-a întrebat:
– Cine ţi-a spus că eşti gol? Ai mâncat cumva din pomul din care ţi-am poruncit să nu mănânci?
Verse 12
The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”
– Femeia pe care mi-ai dat-o ca să fie cu mine mi-a dat din pom şi am mâncat, a răspuns Adam.
Verse 13
Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
Atunci Domnul Dumnezeu i-a zis femeii:
– Ce ai făcut?
– Şarpele m-a înşelat şi am mâncat, a răspuns femeia.
Verse 14
So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,
“Cursed are you above all livestock
and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.
Domnul Dumnezeu i-a zis şarpelui: „Pentru că ai făcut aceasta,
blestemat eşti între toate vitele
şi între toate animalele sălbatice;
pe pântece te vei târî
şi vei mânca ţărână toată viaţa.
Verse 15
And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring[a] and hers;
he will crush[b] your head,
and you will strike his heel.”

Voi pune duşmănie între tine şi femeie,
între sămânţa[c] ta şi sămânţa ei;
Sămânţa ei îţi va zdrobi capul,
iar tu îi vei zdrobi călcâiul.“

Verse 16
To the woman he said,
“I will make your pains in childbearing very severe;
with painful labor you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you.”
Femeii i-a zis:
„Îţi voi mări mult durerile naşterii;
în durere vei naşte copii.
Dorinţa ta va fi pentru soţul tău,
iar el va stăpâni peste tine.[d]“
Verse 17
To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’
“Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.
Iar lui Adam i-a zis: „Pentru că ai ascultat de soţia ta şi ai mâncat din pomul din care-ţi poruncisem să nu mănânci,
blestemat este pământul din cauza ta;
cu trudă îţi vei lua hrana din el
toată viaţa ta.
Verse 18
It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.

Spini şi mărăcini îţi va da,
iar tu vei mânca din plantele câmpului.

By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are

îţi vei mânca pâinea,
până când te vei întoarce în pământ,

Adam a numit-o Eva[e] pe soţia sa, pentru că ea a fost mama tuturor celor vii.

The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.
Domnul Dumnezeu a făcut haine de piele pentru Adam şi pentru soţia sa şi i-a îmbrăcat.
Verse 22
And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”
Atunci Domnul Dumnezeu a zis: „Omul a ajuns ca unul dintre Noi, cunoscând binele şi răul; acum el şi-ar putea întinde mâna să ia şi din pomul vieţii ca să mănânce şi va trăi veşnic.“
Verse 23
So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken.
De aceea Domnul Dumnezeu l-a alungat pe om afară din grădina Eden, ca să muncească pământul din care a fost luat.
Verse 24
After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side[e] of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
După ce l-a alungat pe om, a pus la răsăritul[f] grădinii Eden nişte heruvimi şi o sabie învăpăiată care se rotea, ca să păzească drumul spre pomul vieţii.
