Verse 1
Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
Astfel a fost încheiată crearea cerurilor, a pământului şi a întregii lor oştiri.
Verse 2
By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.
În ziua a şaptea, Dumnezeu Îşi terminase lucrarea pe care a făcut-o; El s-a odihnit în ziua a şaptea de toată lucrarea pe care a făcut-o.
Verse 3
Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
Adam and Eve
Dumnezeu a binecuvântat ziua a şaptea şi a sfinţit-o, pentru că în ea s-a odihnit[a] de toată lucrarea pe care a făcut-o în creaţie.

Verse 4
This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.
Verse 5
Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth[a] and no plant had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground,
pe pământ nu era încă nici o plantă verde, iar iarba câmpului încă nu încolţise pentru că Domnul Dumnezeu încă nu dăduse ploaie pe pământ şi nu era nici un om ca să lucreze pământul,
Verse 6
but streams[b] came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.
ci doar un abur se ridica de pe pământ şi uda toată suprafaţa pământului.
Verse 7
Then the Lord God formed a man[c] from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
Atunci Domnul Dumnezeu l-a modelat pe Adam[d] din ţărâna pământului şi a suflat în nările lui suflare de viaţă, iar Adam a devenit un suflet viu.
Verse 8
Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.
Domnul Dumnezeu a plantat o grădină în Eden, în răsărit. Acolo l-a pus pe Adam, omul pe care l-a modelat.
Verse 9
The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Domnul Dumnezeu a făcut să crească din ţărâna pământului tot felul de pomi care sunt plăcuţi la vedere şi buni de mâncat; de asemenea, în mijlocul grădinii se aflau pomul vieţii şi pomul cunoaşterii binelui şi răului.
Verse 10
A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters.
Un râu curgea din Eden ca să ude grădina, iar de acolo se despărţea în patru braţe.
Verse 11
The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold.
Numele primului braţ era Pişon; el curgea împrejurul[e] ţării Havila, unde era aur.
Verse 12
(The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin[d] and onyx are also there.)
Aurul acelei ţări era bun; de asemenea, acolo se găseau bedelion[f] şi piatră de onix.
Verse 13
The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush.[e]
Numele celui de-al doilea braţ era Ghihon. El curgea împrejurul ţării Cuş[g].
Verse 14
The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
Numele celui de-al treilea braţ era Tigru; el curgea la răsăritul Asurului. Numele celui de-al patrulea braţ era Eufrat.
Verse 15
The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
Domnul Dumnezeu l-a luat pe Adam şi l-a aşezat în grădina Eden, ca să o lucreze şi să o păzească.
Verse 16
And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;
Domnul Dumnezeu i-a poruncit lui Adam: „Poţi să mănânci din orice pom din grădină,
Verse 17
but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
dar din pomul cunoaşterii binelui şi răului să nu mănânci, pentru că în ziua în care vei mânca din el vei muri negreşit!“
Verse 18
The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
Apoi Domnul Dumnezeu a zis: „Nu este bine ca Adam să fie singur; îi voi face un ajutor potrivit.“
Verse 19
Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.
Astfel, Domnul Dumnezeu a modelat din ţărână toate animalele câmpului şi toate păsările cerului şi le-a adus la Adam, ca să vadă ce nume le va da. Şi numele pe care Adam i l-a dat fiecărei vieţuitoare, acela a rămas.
Verse 20
So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.
But for Adam[f] no suitable helper was found.
Adam le-a dat nume tuturor vitelor, păsărilor cerului şi fiarelor câmpului; însă pentru el nu s-a găsit nici un ajutor potrivit.
Verse 21
So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs[g] and then closed up the place with flesh.
Aşa că Domnul Dumnezeu a trimis un somn adânc peste Adam, iar acesta a adormit. Atunci Domnul a luat una dintre coastele lui şi a închis carnea la locul ei.
Verse 22
Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib[h] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
Şi, din coasta pe care a luat-o din Adam, Domnul Dumnezeu a făcut o femeie şi i-a adus-o lui Adam.
Verse 23
The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”
Atunci Adam a exclamat:
„În sfârşit, aceasta este os din oasele mele
şi carne din carnea mea;
ea se va numi «femeie[h]»,
pentru că a fost luată din bărbat.“
Verse 24
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
De aceea bărbatul îşi va lăsa tatăl şi mama şi se va uni cu soţia lui, iar ei vor deveni un singur trup.
Verse 25
Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
Omul şi soţia lui erau goi, dar nu le era ruşine.
