Genesis 22

Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!”

“Here I am,” he replied.

– Iată-mă, a răspuns el.

Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

Dumnezeu i-a spus:

– Ia-l pe fiul tău Isaac, pe singurul tău fiu, fiul pe care-l iubeşti, du-te în ţinutul Moria şi jertfeşte-l acolo ca

ardere de tot pe unul dintre munţii despre care îţi voi spune.

Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about.

Avraam s-a sculat dis-de-dimineaţă, a înşeuat măgarul, i-a luat pe doi dintre slujitorii săi şi pe fiul său Isaac, a tăiat lemne pentru arderea de tot şi a plecat spre locul despre care i-a spus Dumnezeu.

On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance.

A treia zi, Avraam şi-a ridicat privirea şi a văzut locul de departe.

He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.”

Atunci Avraam le-a zis slujitorilor săi: „Rămâneţi aici cu măgarul; eu şi băiatul vom merge până acolo, ne vom închina, iar după aceea ne vom întoarce la voi.“

Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together,

Avraam a luat lemnele pentru arderea de tot şi le-a pus în spinarea fiului său Isaac, iar el a dus focul şi cuţitul. Şi cei doi au mers împreună.

Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?”

“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.

“The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”

Isaac i-a zis tatălui său, Avraam:

– Tată!

– Da, fiule, a răspuns el.

– Avem focul şi lemnele, dar unde este mielul pentru arderea de tot? l-a întrebat Isaac.

Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.

– Dumnezeu Însuşi va da mielul pentru arderea de tot, fiule, i-a răspuns Avraam.

Şi cei doi şi-au continuat drumul împreună

When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.

până au ajuns la locul pe care Dumnezeu i-l indicase lui Avraam. Acolo Avraam a zidit un altar şi a aranjat lemnele pe el, după care l-a legat pe fiul său Isaac şi l-a pus pe altar, deasupra lemnelor.

Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.

Apoi şi-a întins mâna şi a luat cuţitul ca să-l înjunghie pe fiul său.

But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”

“Here I am,” he replied.

Dar Îngerul Domnului l-a strigat din cer:

– Avraame! Avraame!

– Iată-mă, a răspuns el.

“Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”

– Nu pune mâna pe băiat, i-a spus Îngerul. Nu-i face nimic, pentru că acum ştiu că te temi de Dumnezeu, întrucât nu l-ai cruţat pe fiul tău, pe singurul tău fiu, pentru Mine.

Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram^[a] caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.

Avraam şi-a ridicat privirea şi a văzut un berbec prins cu coarnele într-un tufiş. S-a dus, a luat berbecul şi l-a jertfit ca ardere de tot în locul fiului său.

So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”

Avraam a numit acel loc „Domnul va purta de grijă“^[a], motiv pentru care se spune şi astăzi: „La muntele Domnului i se va purta de grijă.“

The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time

Îngerul Domnului l-a strigat din cer pentru a doua oară pe Avraam

and said, “I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,

şi i-a spus: „Jur pe Mine Însumi, zice Domnul, că, deoarece ai făcut acest lucru şi nu l-ai cruţat pe fiul tău, pe singurul tău fiu,

I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies,

te voi binecuvânta cu adevărat şi-ţi voi înmulţi foarte mult urmaşii^[b], cât stelele cerului şi cât nisipul de pe ţărmul mării. Urmaşii tăi vor pune stăpânire pe cetăţile duşmanilor lor,

and through your offspring^[b] all nations on earth will be blessed,^[c] because you have obeyed me.”

iar prin sămânţa^[c] ta vor fi binecuvântate toate neamurile pământului, pentru că M-ai ascultat.“

Then Abraham returned to his servants, and they set off together for Beersheba. And Abraham stayed in Beersheba.

Nahor’s Sons

Avraam s-a întors la slujitorii săi, iar ei s-au sculat şi au mers împreună la Beer-Şeba. Şi Avraam a locuit în Beer-Şeba.

Urmaşii lui Nahor

Some time later Abraham was told, “Milkah is also a mother; she has borne sons to your brother Nahor:

După toate acestea, a ajuns la Avraam vestea că Milca i-a născut şi ea copii fratelui său, Nahor:

Uz the firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel (the father of Aram),

pe Uţ, întâiul său născut, pe Buz, fratele acestuia, pe Chemuel, tatăl lui Aram,

Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph and Bethuel.”

pe Chesed, pe Hazo, pe Pildaş, pe Yidlaf şi pe Betuel.

Bethuel became the father of Rebekah. Milkah bore these eight sons to Abraham’s brother Nahor.

Lui Betuel i s-a născut Rebeca. Pe aceştia opt i-a născut Milca lui Nahor, fratele lui Avraam.

His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also had sons: Tebah, Gaham, Tahash and Maakah.

De asemenea, Reuma, ţiitoarea^[d] lui, i-a născut pe Tebah, pe Gaham, pe Tahaş şi pe Maaca.
