Job 35

“Do you think this is just?
    You say, ‘I am in the right, not God.’

– Считаешь ли ты справедливым,
    что сказал: «Я праведен перед Аллахом» –

Yet you ask him, ‘What profit is it to me,^[a]
    and what do I gain by not sinning?’

и спросил: «Что мне за польза,
    что за выгода не грешить»?

“I would like to reply to you
    and to your friends with you.

Я отвечу тебе
    и твоим друзьям.

Look up at the heavens and see;
    gaze at the clouds so high above you.

Взгляни на небо и посмотри;
    рассмотри облака – они выше, чем ты.

If you sin, how does that affect him?
    If your sins are many, what does that do to him?

Если ты согрешишь, чем Его заденешь?
    Если множишь проступки, что причиняешь Ему?

If you are righteous, what do you give to him,
    or what does he receive from your hand?

Если праведен ты, что Ему даёшь;
    что получит Он из твоей руки?

Your wickedness only affects humans like yourself,
    and your righteousness only other people.

Твой грех коснётся лишь тебе подобных,
    твоя праведность – только смертных.

“People cry out under a load of oppression;
    they plead for relief from the arm of the powerful.

Люди стонут под гнётом притеснения;
    молят об избавлении от руки мучителей.

But no one says, ‘Where is God my Maker,
    who gives songs in the night,

Но никто не взыщет: «Где Аллах, мой Творец,
    Который дарует песни в ночи,

who teaches us more than he teaches^[b] the beasts of the earth
    and makes us wiser than^[c] the birds in the sky?’

Который разуму нас учит через зверей
    и мудрости – через небесных птиц?^[a]»

He does not answer when people cry out
    because of the arrogance of the wicked.

Взывают они, но нет им ответа
    из-за гордости их и зла.

Indeed, God does not listen to their empty plea;
    the Almighty pays no attention to it.

Да, Аллах не внемлет пустой мольбе,
    Всемогущий её не слышит.

How much less, then, will he listen
    when you say that you do not see him,
that your case is before him
    and you must wait for him,

Тем более Он не слышит,
    если ты говоришь, что Его не видишь,
что дело твоё – перед Ним,
    и ты Его ожидаешь,

and further, that his anger never punishes
    and he does not take the least notice of wickedness.^[d]

да ещё, что гнев Его медлит,
    и на преступления Он совсем не обращает внимания.

So Job opens his mouth with empty talk;
    without knowledge he multiplies words.”
