Job 34

“Hear my words, you wise men;
    listen to me, you men of learning.

– Послушайте, мудрые, мою речь;
    внимайте мне, умные люди.

For the ear tests words
    as the tongue tastes food.

Ведь ухо разбирает слова,
    как язык различает вкус пищи.

Let us discern for ourselves what is right;
    let us learn together what is good.

Так давайте решим, где правда,
    и рассудим, что есть добро.

“Job says, ‘I am innocent,
    but God denies me justice.

Аюб сказал: «Я невинен,
    но лишил меня Аллах правосудия.

Although I am right,
    I am considered a liar;
although I am guiltless,
    his arrow inflicts an incurable wound.’

И хоть я прав,
    меня считают лжецом.
Хоть я без греха,
    моя рана от Его стрелы неисцелима».

Is there anyone like Job,
    who drinks scorn like water?

Есть ли ещё такой человек, как Аюб,
    кто кощунство, как воду, пьёт?

He keeps company with evildoers;
    he associates with the wicked.

Он дружит с нечестивыми
    и общается со злодеями.

For he says, ‘There is no profit
    in trying to please God.’

Ведь он говорит: «Нет выгоды человеку,
    который старается угодить Аллаху».

“So listen to me, you men of understanding.
    Far be it from God to do evil,
    from the Almighty to do wrong.

Имеющие разум, послушайте меня!
    Не может быть у Аллаха неправды,
    чужд Всемогущий злу.

He repays everyone for what they have done;
    he brings on them what their conduct deserves.

Воздаёт он смертному по делам
    и обходится с ним по его заслугам.

It is unthinkable that God would do wrong,
    that the Almighty would pervert justice.

Истинно, Аллах не делает зла,
    Всемогущий не извращает суд.

Who appointed him over the earth?
    Who put him in charge of the whole world?

Кто отдал землю Ему во власть?
    Кто поставил Его над вселенной?

If it were his intention
    and he withdrew his spirit^[a] and breath,

Если бы Он решил забрать Свой дух
    и отозвал бы Своё дыхание,

all humanity would perish together
    and mankind would return to the dust.

то погибла бы разом любая плоть,
    и возвратился бы смертный во прах.

“If you have understanding, hear this;
    listen to what I say.

Имеешь ты разум, так слушай это;
    внимай моей речи.

Can someone who hates justice govern?
    Will you condemn the just and mighty One?

Неужели Управляющий вселенной ненавидит правосудие?
    Обвинишь ли ты Справедливого и Могучего,

Is he not the One who says to kings, ‘You are worthless,’
    and to nobles, ‘You are wicked,’

Который говорит царю: «Негодяй!» –
    и вельможам: «Вы беззаконники!»,

who shows no partiality to princes
    and does not favor the rich over the poor,
    for they are all the work of his hands?

Который вождям не выказывает пристрастий
    и не ставит богатого выше бедного,
    ведь все они – творение Его рук?

They die in an instant, in the middle of the night;
    the people are shaken and they pass away;
    the mighty are removed without human hand.

Они умирают мгновенно, в полночь;
    мечутся люди и угасают;
    сильных сражают не руки смертных.

“His eyes are on the ways of mortals;
    he sees their every step.

Он смотрит на пути людей
    и видит каждый их шаг.

There is no deep shadow, no utter darkness,
    where evildoers can hide.

Нет ни мрака, ни тьмы кромешной,
    где могли бы спрятаться беззаконники.

God has no need to examine people further,
    that they should come before him for judgment.

Ведь Аллаху нет нужды назначать время человеку,
    чтобы предстать на суд перед Ним.

Without inquiry he shatters the mighty
    and sets up others in their place.

Без допроса сокрушает Он сильных
    и других на их место ставит.

Because he takes note of their deeds,
    he overthrows them in the night and they are crushed.

Истинно, ведая их дела,
    низлагает их ночью – и им конец.

He punishes them for their wickedness
    where everyone can see them,

На глазах у людей
    Он карает их за грехи,

because they turned from following him
    and had no regard for any of his ways.

ведь они от Него отступили,
    не познали Его путей.

They caused the cry of the poor to come before him,
    so that he heard the cry of the needy.

И дошёл до него крик бедных,
    Он услышал крик страдальцев.

But if he remains silent, who can condemn him?
    If he hides his face, who can see him?
Yet he is over individual and nation alike,

Если Он промолчит, кто Его укорит?
    Если скроет Он лицо Своё, кто сможет Его увидеть?
Он и над народом, и над человеком,

    to keep the godless from ruling,
    from laying snares for the people.

    чтобы не царствовали безбожники,
    став сетью для народа.

“Suppose someone says to God,
    ‘I am guilty but will offend no more.

Лучше скажи Аллаху:
    «Я пострадал, но больше не согрешу.

Teach me what I cannot see;
    if I have done wrong, I will not do so again.’

Научи меня, если что-то не знаю;
    если я согрешил, то впредь зарекусь».

Should God then reward you on your terms,
    when you refuse to repent?
You must decide, not I;
    so tell me what you know.

Но должен ли Аллах тебя удостоить наградой,
    когда ты отказываешься раскаяться?
Ты должен решать, а не я.
    Говори же, что знаешь.

“Men of understanding declare,
    wise men who hear me say to me,

Люди разумные скажут мне,
    мудрецы, кто услышит меня:

‘Job speaks without knowledge;
    his words lack insight.’

«От невежества говорит Аюб,
    нет в его речи разума».

Oh, that Job might be tested to the utmost
    for answering like a wicked man!

О, когда бы до конца был испытан Аюб
    за ответы, достойные беззаконных!

To his sin he adds rebellion;
    scornfully he claps his hands among us
    and multiplies his words against God.”
