Job 33

“But now, Job, listen to my words;
    pay attention to everything I say.

Так выслушай, Аюб, речи мои
    и внимай всем моим словам.

I am about to open my mouth;
    my words are on the tip of my tongue.

Вот, я уже открываю уста,
    говорит мой язык в гортани моей.

My words come from an upright heart;
    my lips sincerely speak what I know.

Слова мои исходят от чистого сердца;
    скажут честно, что знают уста мои.

The Spirit of God has made me;
    the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

Дух Аллаха создал меня,
    и дыхание Всемогущего животворит меня.

Answer me then, if you can;
    stand up and argue your case before me.

Ответь же мне, если сможешь,
    приготовься и возрази мне.

I am the same as you in God’s sight;
    I too am a piece of clay.

Мы равны с тобой перед Аллахом –
    из той же глины я взят.

No fear of me should alarm you,
    nor should my hand be heavy on you.

Страх передо мной тебя не смутит,
    и рука моя тебе тяжела не будет.

“But you have said in my hearing—
    I heard the very words—

Ты при мне говорил,
    и я слышал, как ты утверждал:

‘I am pure, I have done no wrong;
    I am clean and free from sin.

«Я чист, и греха на мне нет.
    Я невинен и непорочен.

Yet God has found fault with me;
    he considers me his enemy.

Но Аллах отыскал за мною вину
    и считает меня врагом.

He fastens my feet in shackles;
    he keeps close watch on all my paths.’

Он ноги мои в колодки забил
    и за всеми путями моими следит».

“But I tell you, in this you are not right,
    for God is greater than any mortal.

Но я говорю тебе: ты не прав,
    потому что Аллах выше смертного.

Why do you complain to him
    that he responds to no one’s words^[a]?

Для чего тебе состязаться с Ним,
    говоря, что на слова человека Он не отвечает?

For God does speak—now one way, now another—
    though no one perceives it.

Ведь Аллах говорит разными путями,
    хотя человек и не понимает.

In a dream, in a vision of the night,
    when deep sleep falls on people
    as they slumber in their beds,

Во сне и в ночном видении,
    когда смертных объемлет глубокий сон,
    когда они дремлют на ложах своих,

he may speak in their ears
    and terrify them with warnings,

тогда Он открывает человеку слух
    и страшит его Своими видениями,

to turn them from wrongdoing
    and keep them from pride,

чтобы отвернуть его от зла
    и удержать его от гордости,

to preserve them from the pit,
    their lives from perishing by the sword.^[b]

чтобы сберечь его душу от бездны
    и не дать ему перейти реку смерти.

“Or someone may be chastened on a bed of pain
    with constant distress in their bones,

Или вразумляет человека на ложе недуг,
    и непрестанная боль в его костях,

so that their body finds food repulsive
    and their soul loathes the choicest meal.

так что его внутренность гнушается хлебом,
    а душа – лакомой пищей.

Their flesh wastes away to nothing,
    and their bones, once hidden, now stick out.

Истощается его плоть, её и не видно,
    выпирают его кости, скрытые прежде.

They draw near to the pit,
    and their life to the messengers of death.^[c]

Его душа приближается к бездне,
    и жизнь – к ангелам смерти.

Yet if there is an angel at their side,
    a messenger, one out of a thousand,
    sent to tell them how to be upright,

Но если есть ангел на его стороне,
    заступник, один из тысячи,
    наставляющий человека на прямой путь,

and he is gracious to that person and says to God,
    ‘Spare them from going down to the pit;
    I have found a ransom for them—

Аллах^[a] пожалеет его и скажет:
    «Избавь его, пусть не сойдёт он в бездну;
    за него Я выкуп нашёл»,

let their flesh be renewed like a child’s;
    let them be restored as in the days of their youth’—

то плоть его станет как у младенца,
    и вернутся к нему его юные дни.

then that person can pray to God and find favor with him,
    they will see God’s face and shout for joy;
    he will restore them to full well-being.

Он помолится Аллаху и найдёт милость;
    он увидит лицо Аллаха и возликует.
    Аллах вернёт ему его праведность.

And they will go to others and say,
    ‘I have sinned, I have perverted what is right,
    but I did not get what I deserved.

Тогда он воспоёт перед людьми и скажет:
    «Я согрешил, искажал правду,
    но пользы мне это не принесло.

God has delivered me from going down to the pit,
    and I shall live to enjoy the light of life.’

Он искупил мою душу от бездны,
    и я опять вижу свет».

“God does all these things to a person—
    twice, even three times—

Истинно, всё это делает Аллах
    со смертным два-три раза,

to turn them back from the pit,
    that the light of life may shine on them.

чтобы душу его отвести от бездны,
    чтобы свет живых на него просиял.

“Pay attention, Job, and listen to me;
    be silent, and I will speak.

Внимай мне, Аюб, и слушай меня;
    молчи, и я буду говорить.

If you have anything to say, answer me;
    speak up, for I want to vindicate you.

Если есть, что сказать, то ответь мне;
    говори, я хочу тебя оправдать.

But if not, then listen to me;
    be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.”
