Job 18

“When will you end these speeches?
    Be sensible, and then we can talk.

Why are we regarded as cattle
    and considered stupid in your sight?

Почему ты считаешь нас за скотов?
    Почему за глупцов держишь?

You who tear yourself to pieces in your anger,
    is the earth to be abandoned for your sake?
    Or must the rocks be moved from their place?

О ты, кто в гневе себя терзает,
    опустеть ли ради тебя земле?
    Скалам ли с мест своих сдвинуться?

“The lamp of a wicked man is snuffed out;
    the flame of his fire stops burning.

Истинно, свет у нечестивого погаснет,
    даже искры не останется.

The light in his tent becomes dark;
    the lamp beside him goes out.

Померкнет огонь у него в шатре,
    и угаснет над ним светильник.

The vigor of his step is weakened;
    his own schemes throw him down.

Сократится мощь его шагов,
    и падёт он жертвой своих же замыслов.

His feet thrust him into a net;
    he wanders into its mesh.

Ноги его сами шагнут в силки,
    запутаются в сетях ловца.

A trap seizes him by the heel;
    a snare holds him fast.

Поймает его за пяту петля,
    крепко схватит его ловушка.

A noose is hidden for him on the ground;
    a trap lies in his path.

Силки для него раскинуты по земле,
    и ждёт на пути западня.

Terrors startle him on every side
    and dog his every step.

Страшат его ужасы отовсюду,
    следуют за ним по пятам.

Calamity is hungry for him;
    disaster is ready for him when he falls.

Истощается сила его от голода,
    и беда ждёт, когда он споткнётся.

It eats away parts of his skin;
    death’s firstborn devours his limbs.

Изгложет кожу его болезнь,
    съест Первенец смерти^[a] его тело.

He is torn from the security of his tent
    and marched off to the king of terrors.

Выволокут его из шатра, где он был в безопасности,
    и приведут его к Царю ужасов^[b].

Fire resides^[a] in his tent;
    burning sulfur is scattered over his dwelling.

Пламя спалит его шатёр,
    горящая сера изольётся на его жилище.

His roots dry up below
    and his branches wither above.

Корни его засохнут,
    и ветви его увянут.

The memory of him perishes from the earth;
    he has no name in the land.

Память о нём исчезнет с земли,
    и не будут о нём вспоминать на улицах.

He is driven from light into the realm of darkness
    and is banished from the world.

Изгонят его из света во мрак,
    из мира живых прогонят.

He has no offspring or descendants among his people,
    no survivor where once he lived.

Ни детей, ни внуков
    не останется после него в народе,
никого не останется после него
    в местах, где он жил когда-то.

People of the west are appalled at his fate;
    those of the east are seized with horror.

На западе ужаснутся его судьбе
    и на востоке будут объяты страхом.

Surely such is the dwelling of an evil man;
    such is the place of one who does not know God.”
