2 Samuel 1

After the death of Saul, David returned from striking down the Amalekites and stayed in Ziklag two days.

После смерти Шаула Давуд вернулся, победив амаликитян. Он пробыл в Циклаге два дня.

On the third day a man arrived from Saul’s camp with his clothes torn and dust on his head. When he came to David, he fell to the ground to pay him honor.

На третий день из лагеря Шаула пришёл человек в разорванной одежде, а вся его голова была в пыли^[a]. Придя к Давуду, он поклонился ему, пав лицом на землю.

“Where have you come from?” David asked him.

He answered, “I have escaped from the Israelite camp.”

– Откуда ты пришёл? – спросил его Давуд.

– Я спасся из стана исраильтян, – ответил он.

“What happened?” David asked. “Tell me.”

“The men fled from the battle,” he replied. “Many of them fell and died. And Saul and his son Jonathan are dead.”

– Что случилось? – спросил Давуд. – Расскажи мне.

Человек сказал:

– Народ бежал с поля боя. Многие пали. И Шаул, и его сын Ионафан мертвы.

Then David said to the young man who brought him the report, “How do you know that Saul and his son Jonathan are dead?”

Давуд сказал юноше, который принёс ему это известие:

– Откуда ты знаешь, что Шаул и его сын Ионафан мертвы?

“I happened to be on Mount Gilboa,” the young man said, “and there was Saul, leaning on his spear, with the chariots and their drivers in hot pursuit.

– Я случайно оказался на горе Гильбоа, – сказал юноша, – и там был Шаул, который опирался на своё копьё, а колесницы и всадники приближались к нему.

When he turned around and saw me, he called out to me, and I said, ‘What can I do?’

Обернувшись назад и увидев меня, он позвал меня, и я сказал: «Что мне сделать?»

“He asked me, ‘Who are you?’

“‘An Amalekite,’ I answered.

Он спросил меня: «Кто ты?» – «Амаликитянин», – ответил я.

“Then he said to me, ‘Stand here by me and kill me! I’m in the throes of death, but I’m still alive.’

Тогда он сказал мне: «Подойди и убей меня! У меня агония, но я ещё жив».

“So I stood beside him and killed him, because I knew that after he had fallen he could not survive. And I took the crown that was on his head and the band on his arm and have brought them here to my lord.”

Я подошёл и убил его, потому что знал, что после своего поражения он не сможет жить. Я взял венец, который был у него на голове, и браслет с его руки, и принёс их сюда, к моему господину.

Then David and all the men with him took hold of their clothes and tore them.

Тогда Давуд и все, кто был с ним, разорвали на себе одежду.

They mourned and wept and fasted till evening for Saul and his son Jonathan, and for the army of the Lord and for the nation of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.

Они рыдали, плакали и постились до вечера о Шауле, о его сыне Ионафане, о войске Вечного^[b] и об Исраиле, потому что все они пали от меча.

David said to the young man who brought him the report, “Where are you from?”

“I am the son of a foreigner, an Amalekite,” he answered.

Давуд сказал юноше, который принёс ему известие:

– Откуда ты?

– Я сын чужеземца, амаликитянина, – ответил он.

David asked him, “Why weren’t you afraid to lift your hand to destroy the Lord’s anointed?”

Давуд сказал ему:

– Как же ты не побоялся поднять руку на помазанника Вечного?

Then David called one of his men and said, “Go, strike him down!” So he struck him down, and he died.

Давуд позвал одного из своих людей и сказал ему:

– Подойди и убей его!

И тот убил его.

For David had said to him, “Your blood be on your own head. Your own mouth testified against you when you said, ‘I killed the Lord’s anointed.’”

David’s Lament for Saul and Jonathan

А Давуд сказал, повернувшись к амаликитянину:

– Твоя кровь на твоей голове. Ты сам свидетельствовал против себя, когда сказал: «Я убил помазанника Вечного».

Плач Давуда о Шауле и Ионафане

David took up this lament concerning Saul and his son Jonathan,

Давуд оплакивал Шаула и его сына Ионафана этой горестной песней,

and he ordered that the people of Judah be taught this lament of the bow (it is written in the Book of Jashar):
