Zephaniah 3:7

“I said, ‘Most certainly you will [reverently] fear Me;Accept correction.’So Jerusalem’s dwelling will not be cut offIn accordance with all that I have appointed concerning her [punishment],But they were eager [even rising early] to make all their deeds corrupt.

I said, Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive instruction; so their dwelling should not be cut off, howsoever I punished them: but they rose early, and corrupted all their doings.

“I thought, ‘Surely she’ll honor me now, accept my discipline and correction,Find a way of escape from the trouble she’s in, find relief from the punishment I’m bringing.’But it didn’t faze her. Bright and early she was up at it again, doing the same old things.

“I said, ‘Surely you will revere Me,Accept instruction.’So her dwelling will not be cut offAccording to all that I have appointed concerning her.But they were eager to corrupt all their deeds.

Here is what I thought about Jerusalem.‘Surely you will have respect for me. Surely you will accept my warning.’ Then the city you think is safe would not be destroyed.And I would not have to punish you so much. But they still wanted to go on sinning in every way they could.

Of Jerusalem I thought, ‘Surely you will fear me and accept correction!’Then her place of refuge[a] would not be destroyed, nor all my punishments come upon[b] her.But they were still eager to act corruptly in all they did.

I thought, ‘Surely they will have reverence for me now! Surely they will listen to my warnings.Then I won’t need to strike again, destroying their homes.’But no, they get up early to continue their evil deeds.

فَقُلْتُ: لَوْ إِنَّ أَهْلَهَا يَخَافُونَنِي وَيَقْبَلُونَ تَقْوِيمِي، فَلا تُسْتَأْصَلُ مَسَاكِنُهُمْ وَلا يَنْصَبُّ عَلَيْهِمْ كُلُّ غَضَبِي. وَلَكِنَّهُمْ جَدُّوا مُبَكِّرِينَ بِارْتِكَابِ الْفَسَادِ فِي كُلِّ عَمَلٍ أَقْدَمُوا عَلَيْهِ.

Jeg tænkte: ‚Jerusalem må da tage ved lære og vise ærefrygt for mig.’Havde de gjort det, havde de undgået min straf, og byen ville ikke blive ødelagt.Men de fremturede i deres synd, og det blev om muligt endnu værre.” Den endelige dom

Ich dachte: Diese Warnung werdet ihr doch nicht in den Wind schlagen! Jetzt werdet ihr endlich Ehrfurcht vor mir haben! Ich hoffte, ich müsste eure Heimat nicht verwüsten und die verdiente Strafe nicht an euch vollstrecken. Doch ihr habt es nur noch schlimmer getrieben!

เราได้กล่าวแก่กรุงนั้นว่า‘แน่ทีเดียว เจ้าจะเกรงกลัวเราและยอมรับการแก้ไขปรับปรุง!’แล้วที่อยู่ของเขาจะได้ไม่ถูกทำลายและโทษทัณฑ์ของเราจะได้ไม่มาถึงเขาทั้งหมดแต่เขาก็ยังคงกระเหี้ยนกระหือรือที่จะประพฤติเสื่อมทรามเหมือนที่เคยทำมาทุกอย่าง”
