Judges 20:18

The men of Israel arose and went up to [d]Bethel and asked of God and said, “Which of us shall take the lead to battle against the sons [tribe] of Benjamin?” And the Lord said, “Judah [shall go up] first.”

And the children of Israel arose, and went up to the house of God, and asked counsel of God, and said, Which of us shall go up first to the battle against the children of Benjamin? And the Lord said, Judah shall go up first.

They set out and went to Bethel to inquire of God. The People of Israel said, “Who of us shall be first to go into battle with the Benjaminites?”God said, “Judah goes first.” 19-21 The People of Israel got up the next morning and camped before Gibeah. The army of Israel marched out against Benjamin and took up their positions, ready to attack Gibeah. But the Benjaminites poured out of Gibeah and devastated twenty-two Israelite divisions on the ground. 22-23 The Israelites went back to the sanctuary and wept before God until evening. They again inquired of God, “Shall we again go into battle against the Benjaminites, our brothers?”God said, “Yes. Attack.” 24-25 The army took heart. The men of Israel took up the positions they had deployed on the first day.On the second day, the Israelites again advanced against Benjamin. This time as the Benjaminites came out of the city, on this second day, they devastated another eighteen Israelite divisions, all swordsmen.

Now the sons of Israel arose, went up to Bethel, and inquired of God and said, “Who shall go up first for us to battle against the sons of Benjamin?” Then the Lord said, “Judah shall go up first.”

The Israelites went up to Bethel. There they asked God, “Who should go up first and fight against the people of Benjamin?”The Lord answered, “The tribe of Judah will go first.”

فَانْطَلَقَ هَؤُلاءِ إِلَى بَيْتِ إِيلَ لِيَسْتَشِيروا اللهَ قَائِلِينَ: «مَنْ يَذْهَبُ أَوَّلاً لِمُحَارَبَةِ بِنْيَامِينَ؟» فَأَجَابَ الرَّبُّ: «يَهُوذَا أَوَّلاً».

戦いを前にして、まずイスラエル軍は、ベテルで神に伺いを立てました。「ベニヤミンと一戦交えるのに、どの部族が先陣を切るべきでしょうか。」すると主は、「ユダが先頭に立ちなさい」と答えました。 19-20 そこで全軍は、翌朝早く、ベニヤミンを攻撃するためにギブアへ向かいました。

Het Israëlitische leger trok eerst van Mispa naar Betel om God te raadplegen. ‘Welke stam zal ons aanvoeren bij de aanval op de Benjaminieten?’ vroegen zij. De Here antwoordde: ‘Juda zal vooropgaan.’ 19-21 De volgende morgen braken zij hun kamp op en trokken naar Gibea om de Benjaminieten aan te vallen. Maar de mannen van Benjamin stormden naar buiten en doodden die dag tweeëntwintigduizend Israëlieten. 22-24 Toen ging Israël weer naar Betel en huilde voor de Here tot aan de avond en vroeg Hem: ‘Moeten we verder vechten tegen onze broeder Benjamin?’ En de Here antwoordde: ‘Ja.’ Daardoor kregen de mannen van Israël weer moed en rukten de volgende dag opnieuw uit om op dezelfde plaats te gaan vechten.

Före striden drog de israelitiska trupperna upp till Betel för att rådfråga Gud. ”Vilken stam ska anföra oss i striden mot Benjamins folk?” frågade de. ”Juda ska gå först”, svarade Herren.
