All [these were] the cities of the sons of Merari according to their families, the rest of the families of the Levites; and their lot was twelve cities.

So all the cities for the children of Merari by their families, which were remaining of the families of the Levites, were by their lot twelve cities.

All these towns were assigned by lot to the Merarites, the remaining Levites—twelve towns. 41-42 The Levites held forty-eight towns with their accompanying pastures within the territory of the People of Israel. Each of these towns had pastures surrounding it—this was the case for all these towns. 43-44 And so God gave Israel the entire land that he had solemnly vowed to give to their ancestors. They took possession of it and made themselves at home in it. And God gave them rest on all sides, as he had also solemnly vowed to their ancestors. Not a single one of their enemies was able to stand up to them—God handed over all their enemies to them.

All these were the cities of the sons of Merari according to their families, the rest of the families of the Levites; and their lot was twelve cities.

So the total number of towns given to the family groups of Merari came to 12. That concludes the list of towns the rest of the Levites received.
