Joshua 14:4

For the sons of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim, and no portion was given in the land to the Levites except cities in which to live, with their pasture lands for their livestock and for their property.

Sie bekamen jedoch eigene Städte, in denen sie wohnen konnten. Auch gab man ihnen Weideplätze für ihr Vieh. Die Nachkommen von Josef hatten zwei Stämme gebildet: Ephraim und Manasse.

Josefs stam hade blivit två separata stammar, nämligen Manasses och Efraims, och leviterna fick inte något land alls, förutom städerna som de skulle bo i och de kringliggande betesmarkerna för deras boskap.
