Genesis 43:32

So the servants served Joseph by himself [in honor of his rank], and his brothers by themselves, and the Egyptians who ate with him by themselves, because [according to custom] the Egyptians could not eat food with the Hebrews, for that is [d]loathsome to the Egyptians.

And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, which did eat with him, by themselves: because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an abomination unto the Egyptians.

So they served him by himself, and them by themselves, and the Egyptians who ate with him by themselves, because the Egyptians could not eat bread with the Hebrews, for that is [u]loathsome to the Egyptians.

فَقَدَّمُوا لَهُ وَحْدَهُ، وَلَهُمْ وَحْدَهُمْ، وَلِلْمِصْرِيِّينَ الآكِلِينَ مَعَهُ وَحْدَهُمْ، إِذْ أَنَّهُ مَحْظُورٌ عَلَى الْمِصْرِيِّينَ أَنْ يَأْكُلُوا مَعَ الْعِبْرَانِيِّينَ، لأَنَّ ذَلِكَ رِجْسٌ عِنْدَهُمْ.

Josef spiste for sig selv, mens brødrene blev opvartet ved et andet bord, og de tilstedeværende egyptere sad ved et tredje bord. Egypterne bryder sig nemlig ikke om at spise sammen med hebræere.

Josef hatte einen eigenen Tisch, die Brüder aßen an einem anderen, und an einem dritten saßen die Ägypter, die mit dabei waren. Ihre Religion verbot es den Ägyptern nämlich, mit den Hebräern an einem Tisch zu essen, weil sie dadurch unrein würden.

On les servit séparément, lui à une table, ses frères à une autre, et les Egyptiens qui mangeaient avec lui à une troisième table. En effet, les Egyptiens ne peuvent pas prendre leurs repas avec les Hébreux : ils considèrent cela comme une chose abominable.

‘Laten we gaan eten,’ zei hij. Jozef at alleen. Zijn broers werden aan een andere tafel bediend en de Egyptenaren zaten aan een derde tafel. Egyptenaren verachtten Hebreeërs en aten niet samen met hen.

Josef åt för sig själv, hans bröder serverades vid ett annat bord och egypterna vid ännu ett annat. Egypterna kunde nämligen inte äta tillsammans med hebréer, för det skulle ha varit avskyvärt för dem.
