Amos 1:5

“I also will break the bar [of the gate] of Damascus,And cut off and destroy the inhabitant from the Valley of Aven (Wickedness),And the ruler who holds the scepter, from Beth-eden (Damascus);And the people of Aram [conquered by the Assyrians] will go into exile to [e]Kir,”Says the Lord.

I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the Lord.

“I will also break the gate bar of Damascus,And cut off the inhabitant from the [d]valley of Aven,And him who holds the scepter, from Beth-eden;So the people of Aram will go exiled to Kir,”Says the Lord.

I will break down the city gate of Damascus. I will kill the king who lives in the Valley of Aven, that evil place.He holds the ruler’s scepter in Beth Eden. The people of Aram will be taken away to Kir as prisoners,” says the Lord.

وَأُحَطِّمُ مِزْلاجَ دِمَشْقَ وَأَسْتَأْصِلُ أَهْلَ وَادِي آوَنَ، وَأُهْلِكُ حَامِلَ صَوْلَجَانِ مُلْكِ بَيْتِ عَدْنٍ، وَيُسَاقُ شَعْبُ أَرَامَ إِلَى السَّبْيِ إِلَى أَرْضِ قِيرَ.

Jeg smadrer Damaskus’ byporte, fjerner dem, der bor på ondskabens slette.[b]Aramæernes konge nyder livet på tronen,[c] men hele hans folk bliver sendt tilbage til Kir.”Gud har talt!

Ich zerschmettere die Riegel an den Stadttoren von Damaskus und töte die Herrscher von Bikat-Awen (›Unrechtstal‹) und Bet-Eden (›Freudenhaus‹). Die Bevölkerung von Syrien wird nach Kir verschleppt. Darauf gebe ich, der Herr, mein Wort!

Ik zal de grendels van de poorten van Damascus verbreken en haar inwoners doden tot aan de vlakte van Aven. De inwoners van Syrië zullen als slaven naar Kir terugkeren.’
