1 Samuel 17:28

Now Eliab his oldest brother heard what he said to the men; and Eliab’s [k]anger burned against David and he said, “Why have you come down here? With whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your presumption (overconfidence) and the evil of your heart; for you have come down in order to see the battle.”

And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.

Eliab, his older brother, heard David fraternizing with the men and lost his temper: “What are you doing here! Why aren’t you minding your own business, tending that scrawny flock of sheep? I know what you’re up to. You’ve come down here to see the sights, hoping for a ringside seat at a bloody battle!” 29-30 “What is it with you?” replied David. “All I did was ask a question.” Ignoring his brother, he turned to someone else, asked the same question, and got the same answer as before.

Now Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger burned against David and he said, “Why have you come down? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your insolence and the wickedness of your heart; for you have come down in order to see the battle.”

David’s oldest brother Eliab heard him speaking with the men. So Eliab became very angry with him. Eliab asked David, “Why have you come down here? Who is taking care of those few sheep in the desert for you? I know how proud you are. I know how evil your heart is. The only reason you came down here was to watch the battle.”

وَسَمِعَ أَخُوهُ الأَكْبَرُ حَدِيثَهُ مَعَ الرِّجَالِ، فَاحْتَدَمَ غَضَبُهُ عَلَى دَاوُدَ وَقَالَ: «لِمَاذَا جِئْتَ إِلَى هُنَا؟ وَعَلَى مَنْ تَرَكْتَ تِلْكَ الْغُنَيْمَاتِ الْقَلِيلَةَ فِي الْبَرِّيَّةِ؟ لَقَدْ عَرَفْتُ غُرُورَكَ وَشَرَّ قَلْبِكَ، فَأَنَتْ لَمْ تَحْضُرْ إِلَى هُنَا إِلّا لِتَشْهَدَ الْحَرْبَ».

大卫的长兄以利押听见他跟人说话，就愤怒地对他说：“你来这里做什么？你把旷野的那几只羊交给谁了？我知道你骄傲自大，心怀恶意，你来只是想看打仗。”
