Genesis 33

Jacob looked up and there was Esau, coming with his four hundred men; so he divided the children among Leah, Rachel and the two female servants.

ยาโคบเงยหน้าขึ้นเห็นเอซาวมากับชายสี่ร้อยคน เขาจึงแบ่งลูกๆ ระหว่างเลอาห์ ราเชล และเมียทาสทั้งสอง

He put the female servants and their children in front, Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph in the rear.

เขาให้เมียทาสทั้งสองกับลูกของพวกนางอยู่ข้างหน้า ถัดมาคือเลอาห์กับลูกๆ ส่วนราเชลกับโยเซฟอยู่ท้ายสุด

He himself went on ahead and bowed down to the ground seven times as he approached his brother.

ตัวยาโคบเองเดินขึ้นไปข้างหน้า และขณะที่เข้าไปใกล้พี่ชาย เขาก็น้อมคำนับจนหน้าถึงพื้นเจ็ดครั้ง

But Esau ran to meet Jacob and embraced him; he threw his arms around his neck and kissed him. And they wept.

แต่เอซาววิ่งเข้ามาหาและกอดยาโคบไว้ เขาโอบคอและจูบยาโคบ พวกเขาต่างร่ำไห้

Then Esau looked up and saw the women and children. “Who are these with you?” he asked.

Jacob answered, “They are the children God has graciously given your servant.”

แล้วเอซาวเงยหน้าขึ้นเห็นพวกผู้หญิงและเด็ก เขาถามว่า “คนที่อยู่กับเจ้านี้เป็นใคร?”

ยาโคบตอบว่า “เป็นลูกๆ ที่พระเจ้าทรงเมตตาประทานให้ผู้รับใช้ของท่าน”

Then the female servants and their children approached and bowed down.

จากนั้นเมียทาสทั้งสองพร้อมกับลูกๆ ก้าวมาข้างหน้าและน้อมคำนับ

Next, Leah and her children came and bowed down. Last of all came Joseph and Rachel, and they too bowed down.

ต่อมาเลอาห์และลูกๆ ของนางก็เข้ามาและน้อมคำนับ และท้ายสุดโยเซฟกับราเชลก็เข้ามาน้อมคำนับด้วย

Esau asked, “What’s the meaning of all these flocks and herds I met?”

“To find favor in your eyes, my lord,” he said.

เอซาวถามว่า “เจ้าส่งฝูงสัตว์ทั้งหลายมาให้เราทำไม?”

ยาโคบตอบว่า “เพื่อให้ท่านเมตตาข้าพเจ้า”

But Esau said, “I already have plenty, my brother. Keep what you have for yourself.”

แต่เอซาวกล่าวว่า “น้องเอ๋ย เรามีมากมายอยู่แล้ว เก็บสิ่งที่เจ้ามีเอาไว้เองเถิด”

“No, please!” said Jacob. “If I have found favor in your eyes, accept this gift from me. For to see your face is like seeing the face of God, now that you have received me favorably.

ยาโคบกล่าวว่า “อย่าปฏิเสธเลย ได้โปรดเถิด ถ้าท่านเมตตาข้าพเจ้า ขอโปรดรับของขวัญนี้จากข้าพเจ้า เพราะที่ได้เห็นหน้าท่านก็เหมือนได้เห็นพระพักตร์ของพระเจ้า ในเมื่อท่านยอมรับข้าพเจ้า

Please accept the present that was brought to you, for God has been gracious to me and I have all I need.” And because Jacob insisted, Esau accepted it.

โปรดรับพรที่นำมาให้ท่านเถิด เพราะว่าพระเจ้าทรงกรุณาต่อข้าพเจ้าและข้าพเจ้ามีทุกสิ่งที่จำเป็น” และเพราะยาโคบคะยั้นคะยอ เอซาวจึงรับเอาไว้

Then Esau said, “Let us be on our way; I’ll accompany you.”

แล้วเอซาวกล่าวว่า “ให้เราออกเดินทางกันเถิด ตัวเราจะไปกับเจ้าด้วย”

But Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are tender and that I must care for the ewes and cows that are nursing their young. If they are driven hard just one day, all the animals will die.

แต่ยาโคบกล่าวกับเขาว่า “นายของข้าพเจ้าก็รู้ว่าลูกๆ ยังเล็กอยู่ และข้าพเจ้าต้องดูแลแกะและวัวตัวเมียที่ให้นมลูก ถ้าไล่ต้อนมันอย่างหนักในวันเดียว สัตว์ทั้งหมดนี้ก็จะตายหมด

So let my lord go on ahead of his servant, while I move along slowly at the pace of the flocks and herds before me and the pace of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir.”

ฉะนั้นขอนายของข้าพเจ้าล่วงหน้าคนรับใช้ของท่านไปก่อน ขณะที่ข้าพเจ้าจะค่อยๆ เดินทางไปตามกำลังของฝูงสัตว์และลูกๆ จนกว่าจะไปพบนายของข้าพเจ้าที่เสอีร์”

Esau said, “Then let me leave some of my men with you.”

“But why do that?” Jacob asked. “Just let me find favor in the eyes of my lord.”

เอซาวกล่าวว่า “ถ้าอย่างนั้นให้เราทิ้งคนของเราบางคนไว้กับเจ้า”

ยาโคบถามว่า “ท่านไม่จำเป็นต้องทำเช่นนั้น ขอเพียงแค่ท่านเมตตาข้าพเจ้าก็พอแล้ว”

So that day Esau started on his way back to Seir.

ดังนั้นในวันนั้นเอง เอซาวจึงออกเดินทางกลับไปเสอีร์

Jacob, however, went to Sukkoth, where he built a place for himself and made shelters for his livestock. That is why the place is called Sukkoth.^[a]

แต่ยาโคบเดินทางไปถึงสุคคท เขาสร้างที่พักสำหรับตนเองและฝูงสัตว์ขึ้นที่นั่น สถานที่ตรงนั้นจึงได้ชื่อว่าสุคคท^[a]

After Jacob came from Paddan Aram,^[b] he arrived safely at the city of Shechem in Canaan and camped within sight of the city.

หลังจากยาโคบมาจากปัดดานอารัม เขามาถึง^[b]เมืองเชเคมในแผ่นดินคานาอันอย่างปลอดภัยและตั้งค่ายพักอยู่ใกล้เมืองนั้น

For a hundred pieces of silver,^[c] he bought from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem, the plot of ground where he pitched his tent.

เขาซื้อที่ดินที่ตั้งเต็นท์จากบรรดาบุตรของฮาโมร์บิดาของเชเคมในราคา 100 เคสิทาห์^[c]

There he set up an altar and called it El Elohe Israel.^[d]

เขาตั้งแท่นบูชาที่นั่นและขนานนามว่าเอลเอโลเฮอิสราเอล^[d]
