Genesis 18

The Lord appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day.

องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงปรากฏแก่อับราฮัมใกล้หมู่ต้นไม้ใหญ่ของมัมเร ขณะเขานั่งอยู่ที่ประตูเต็นท์ช่วงแดดร้อนจัด

Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground.

อับราฮัมเงยหน้าขึ้นและมองเห็นชายสามคนยืนอยู่ใกล้ๆ จึงรีบลุกออกไปต้อนรับและก้มคำนับจนถึงพื้น

He said, “If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord,^[a] do not pass your servant by.

เขากล่าวว่า “ท่านเจ้าข้า^[a] หากท่านจะกรุณา โปรดอย่าผ่านผู้รับใช้ของท่านไป

Let a little water be brought, and then you may all wash your feet and rest under this tree.

ให้ข้าพเจ้าเอาน้ำมาสักหน่อยเพื่อพวกท่านจะได้ล้างเท้าและพักใต้ร่มไม้นี้

Let me get you something to eat, so you can be refreshed and then go on your way—now that you have come to your servant.”

“Very well,” they answered, “do as you say.”

ข้าพเจ้าจะได้หาอะไรมาให้พวกท่านรับประทาน เพื่อพวกท่านจะได้สดชื่นขึ้น แล้วค่อยเดินทางต่อไป ในเมื่อพวกท่านได้มาหาผู้รับใช้ของพวกท่านแล้ว”

พวกเขาตอบว่า “ดีแล้ว จงไปทำอย่างที่ท่านพูดเถิด”

So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah. “Quick,” he said, “get three seahs^[b] of the finest flour and knead it and bake some bread.”

ดังนั้นอับราฮัมจึงรีบกลับเข้าไปในเต็นท์ ไปหาซาราห์และกล่าวว่า “เร็วเข้า เอาแป้งละเอียด 3 ถัง^[b]มานวดและทำขนมปัง”

Then he ran to the herd and selected a choice, tender calf and gave it to a servant, who hurried to prepare it.

จากนั้นเขาวิ่งไปที่ฝูงสัตว์ คัดเลือกลูกวัวเนื้อนุ่มรสดีมาตัวหนึ่ง และบอกให้คนใช้รีบจัดแจงปรุงเป็นอาหาร

He then brought some curds and milk and the calf that had been prepared, and set these before them. While they ate, he stood near them under a tree.

แล้วเขาก็ยกนมเนย กับเนื้อวัวที่ปรุงแล้วมาตั้งต่อหน้าพวกเขา ขณะที่พวกเขารับประทานอาหาร อับราฮัมยืนอยู่ใกล้พวกเขาใต้ต้นไม้นั้น

“Where is your wife Sarah?” they asked him.

“There, in the tent,” he said.

พวกเขาถามว่า “ซาราห์ภรรยาของเจ้าอยู่ที่ไหน?”

เขาตอบว่า “นางอยู่ในเต็นท์”

Then one of them said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son.”

Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him.

แล้วองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสว่า^[c] “เราจะกลับมาหาเจ้าอีกอย่างแน่นอนในปีหน้าเวลาราวๆ นี้ และซาราห์ภรรยาของเจ้าจะให้กำเนิดบุตรชายคนหนึ่ง”

ส่วนซาราห์กำลังฟังอยู่ที่ทางเข้าประตูเต็นท์ข้างหลังเขา

Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing.

ทั้งอับราฮัมกับซาราห์มีอายุมากแล้ว และซาราห์ก็ไม่มีประจำเดือนอีกแล้ว

So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?”

ดังนั้นซาราห์จึงหัวเราะกับตนเองขณะคิดอยู่ในใจว่า “ฉันก็อายุปูนนี้แล้ว และนายของฉัน^[d]ก็แก่เฒ่าแล้ว ฉันจะยังมีเรื่องยินดีเช่นนี้อีกหรือ?”

Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Will I really have a child, now that I am old?’

แล้วองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสกับอับราฮัมว่า “ทำไมซาราห์จึงหัวเราะและพูดว่า ‘คนแก่อย่างฉันยังจะมีลูกได้จริงๆ หรือ?’

Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”

มีอะไรยากเกินไปสำหรับองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าหรือ? เราจะกลับมาหาเจ้าตามเวลาที่กำหนดในปีหน้า และซาราห์จะให้กำเนิดบุตรชาย”

Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, “I did not laugh.”

But he said, “Yes, you did laugh.”

Abraham Pleads for Sodom

ซาราห์กลัวจึงโกหกว่า “ข้าพระองค์ไม่ได้หัวเราะ”

แต่พระองค์ตรัสว่า “เจ้าหัวเราะจริงๆ”

อับราฮัมวิงวอนเพื่อเมืองโสโดม

When the men got up to leave, they looked down toward Sodom, and Abraham walked along with them to see them on their way.

แล้วคนเหล่านั้นก็ลุกขึ้นจะจากไป พวกเขามองลงไปทางเมืองโสโดม และอับราฮัมเดินตามไปส่งพวกเขา

Then the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?

แล้วองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสว่า “ควรหรือที่เราจะปิดบังสิ่งที่เราจะกระทำไม่ให้อับราฮัมรู้?

Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him.^[c]

ในเมื่ออับราฮัมจะเป็นชนชาติที่ยิ่งใหญ่และทรงอำนาจอย่างแน่นอน และทุกประชาชาติทั่วโลกจะได้รับพรผ่านทางเขา

For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.”

เพราะว่าเราได้เลือกเขา เพื่อเขาจะสั่งสอนลูกหลานและครัวเรือนของเขาที่จะมีมาภายหลัง ให้รักษาวิถีทางขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าด้วยการทำสิ่งที่ถูกต้องและยุติธรรม เพื่อว่าองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าจะทำให้สิ่งที่พระองค์ทรงสัญญาไว้กับอับราฮัมเป็นจริง”

Then the Lord said, “The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous

แล้วองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสว่า “เสียงฟ้องร้องเมืองโสโดมกับโกโมราห์ก็ดังสนั่น และพวกเขาทำบาปมหันต์

that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know.”

จนเราต้องลงไปดูว่าสิ่งที่พวกเขาทำนั้นเลวร้ายอย่างเสียงฟ้องร้องที่ขึ้นมาถึงเราหรือไม่ ถ้าไม่จริง เราก็จะได้รู้”

The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the Lord.^[d]

คนเหล่านั้นจึงหันหน้าเดินไปยังเมืองโสโดม แต่อับราฮัมยังยืนอยู่ต่อหน้าองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า^[e]

Then Abraham approached him and said: “Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked?

แล้วอับราฮัมเข้าไปหาพระองค์และทูลว่า “พระองค์จะทรงกวาดล้างคนชอบธรรมไปพร้อมกับคนชั่วหรือ?

What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare^[e] the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it?

พระองค์จะทำอย่างไรถ้าหากว่ามีคนชอบธรรมห้าสิบคนในเมืองนั้น? พระองค์จะทรงกวาดล้างเมืองนั้นจริงๆ หรือ พระองค์จะไม่ทรงละเว้น^[f]ชาวเมืองนั้นเพื่อเห็นแก่คนชอบธรรมห้าสิบคนในนั้นหรือ?

Far be it from you to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?”

พระองค์จะไม่ทรงทำอย่างนั้นแน่ พระองค์จะไม่ทรงประหารคนชอบธรรมไปพร้อมกับคนชั่ว หรือปฏิบัติต่อคนชอบธรรมเช่นเดียวกับคนอธรรมเลย พระองค์จะไม่ทรงทำอย่างนั้นแน่ องค์ตุลาการแห่งสากลโลกจะไม่ธำรงความยุติธรรมไว้หรือ?”

The Lord said, “If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”

องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสว่า “หากเราพบคนชอบธรรมห้าสิบคนในเมืองโสโดม เราจะละเว้นคนทั้งเมืองนั้นเพราะเห็นแก่พวกเขา”

Then Abraham spoke up again: “Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes,

อับราฮัมทูลอีกว่า “ข้าพระองค์ซึ่งเป็นเพียงผงธุลีและขี้เถ้าไม่ควรอาจเอื้อมทูลขอต่อองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า

what if the number of the righteous is five less than fifty? Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five people?”

“If I find forty-five there,” he said, “I will not destroy it.”

แต่หากคนชอบธรรมขาดไปห้าคนจากห้าสิบคนเล่า? พระองค์จะยังทรงทำลายเมืองนั้นทั้งเมืองเพราะคนห้าคนหรือ?”

พระองค์ตรัสว่า “หากเราพบสี่สิบห้าคนที่นั่น เราจะไม่ทำลายเมืองนั้น”

Once again he spoke to him, “What if only forty are found there?”

He said, “For the sake of forty, I will not do it.”

อับราฮัมจึงทูลอีกว่า “หากพบเพียงสี่สิบคนเล่าพระเจ้าข้า?”

พระองค์ตรัสว่า “เพื่อเห็นแก่สี่สิบคนนั้น เราจะไม่ทำลายเมืองนั้น”

Then he said, “May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak. What if only thirty can be found there?”

He answered, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.”

แล้วอับราฮัมจึงทูลว่า “ขอองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าอย่าได้ทรงพระพิโรธเลย ข้าพระองค์ขอกราบทูลอีก หากพบเพียงสามสิบคนที่นั่นเล่า?”

พระองค์ตรัสตอบว่า “เราจะไม่ทำลาย หากเราพบสามสิบคนที่นั่น”

Abraham said, “Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty can be found there?”

He said, “For the sake of twenty, I will not destroy it.”

อับราฮัมทูลว่า “ในเมื่อข้าพระองค์ก็กล้าอาจเอื้อมกราบทูลองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าไปแล้ว หากพบเพียงยี่สิบคนเท่านั้นเล่า?”

พระองค์ตรัสว่า “เพื่อเห็นแก่ยี่สิบคน เราจะไม่ทำลายเมืองนั้น”

Then he said, “May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?”

He answered, “For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.”

แล้วอับราฮัมทูลว่า “ขอองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าอย่าทรงพระพิโรธเลย ข้าพระองค์ขอกราบทูลอีกเพียงครั้งเดียว หากพบแต่เพียงสิบคนเท่านั้นเล่า?”

พระองค์ตรัสตอบว่า “เพื่อเห็นแก่สิบคน เราจะไม่ทำลายเมืองนั้น”

When the Lord had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home.

เมื่อองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสกับอับราฮัมจบแล้วก็เสด็จจากไป ส่วนอับราฮัมก็กลับบ้าน
