Verse 1

Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth.

Dios bendijo a Noé y a sus hijos con estas palabras: «Sean fecundos, multiplíquense y llenen la tierra.

Verse 2

The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands.

Todos los animales de la tierra sentirán temor y miedo ante ustedes: las aves, las bestias salvajes, los animales que se arrastran por el suelo, y los peces del mar. Todos estarán bajo su dominio.

Verse 3

Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.

Todo lo que se mueve y tiene vida, al igual que las verduras, les servirá de alimento. Yo les doy todo esto.

Verse 4

“But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it.

Pero no deberán comer carne con sangre; la sangre es vida.

Verse 5

And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each human being, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being.

Por cierto, de la sangre de ustedes yo habré de pedirles cuentas. A todos los animales y a todos los seres humanos les pediré cuentas de la vida de sus semejantes.

Verse 6

“Whoever sheds human blood,
by humans shall their blood be shed;
for in the image of God
has God made mankind.

»Si alguien derrama la sangre de un ser humano,
otro ser humano derramará la suya,
porque el ser humano ha sido creado
a imagen de Dios mismo.

Verse 7

As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it.”

»En cuanto a ustedes, sean fecundos y multiplíquense; sí, multiplíquense y llenen la tierra».

Verse 8

Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him:

Dios les habló otra vez a Noé y a sus hijos, y les dijo:

Verse 9

“I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you

«Yo establezco mi pacto con ustedes, con sus descendientes,

Verse 10

and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth.

y con todos los seres vivientes que están con ustedes, es decir, con todos los seres vivientes de la tierra que salieron del arca: las aves, y los animales domésticos y salvajes.

Verse 11

I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.”

Este es mi pacto con ustedes: Nunca más serán exterminados los seres humanos por un diluvio; nunca más habrá un diluvio que destruya la tierra».

Verse 12

And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come:

Y Dios añadió: «Esta es la señal del pacto que establezco para siempre con ustedes y con todos los seres vivientes que los acompañan:

Verse 13

I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.

He colocado mi arco iris en las nubes, el cual servirá como señal de mi pacto con la tierra.

Verse 14

Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,

Cuando yo cubra la tierra de nubes, y en ellas aparezca el arco iris,

Verse 15

I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.

me acordaré del pacto que he establecido con ustedes y con todos los seres vivientes. Nunca más las aguas se convertirán en un diluvio para destruir a todos los mortales.

Verse 16

Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”

Cada vez que aparezca el arco iris entre las nubes, yo lo veré y me acordaré del pacto que establecí para siempre con todos los seres vivientes que hay sobre la tierra».

Verse 17

So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.”

The Sons of Noah

Dios concluyó diciéndole a Noé: «Este es el pacto que establezco con todos los seres vivientes que hay en la tierra».

Los hijos de Noé

Verse 18

The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.)

Los hijos de Noé que salieron del arca fueron Sem, Cam, que fue el padre de Canaán, y Jafet.

Verse 19

These were the three sons of Noah, and from them came the people who were scattered over the whole earth.

Estos fueron los tres hijos de Noé que con su descendencia poblaron toda la tierra.

Verse 20

Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded^[a] to plant a vineyard.

Noé se dedicó a cultivar la tierra, y plantó una viña.

Verse 21

When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent.

Un día, bebió vino y se embriagó, quedándose desnudo dentro de su carpa.

Verse 22

Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside.

Cam, el padre de Canaán, vio a su padre desnudo y fue a contárselo a sus hermanos, que estaban afuera.

Verse 23

But Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it across their shoulders; then they walked in backward and covered their father’s naked body. Their faces were turned the other way so that they would not see their father naked.

Entonces Sem y Jafet tomaron un manto, se lo echaron sobre los hombros, y caminando hacia atrás, cubrieron la desnudez de su padre. Como miraban en dirección opuesta, no lo vieron desnudo.

Verse 24

When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done to him,

Cuando Noé despertó de su borrachera y se enteró de lo que su hijo menor le había hecho,

Verse 25

he said,

“Cursed be Canaan!
The lowest of slaves
will he be to his brothers.”

declaró:

«¡Maldito sea Canaán!
Será de sus dos hermanos
el más bajo de sus esclavos».

Verse 26

He also said,

“Praise be to the Lord, the God of Shem!
May Canaan be the slave of Shem.

Y agregó:

«¡Bendito sea el Señor, Dios de Sem!
¡Que Canaán sea su esclavo!

Verse 27

May God extend Japheth’s^[b] territory;
may Japheth live in the tents of Shem,
and may Canaan be the slave of Japheth.”

¡Que Dios extienda el territorio de Jafet!^[a]
¡Que habite Jafet en los campamentos de Sem,
y que Canaán sea su esclavo!»

Verse 28

After the flood Noah lived 350 years.

Después del diluvio Noé vivió trescientos cincuenta años más,

Verse 29

Noah lived a total of 950 years, and then he died.

de modo que murió a la edad de novecientos cincuenta años.
