1 Thessalonians 4

As for other matters, brothers and sisters, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more.

Por lo demás, hermanos, les pedimos encarecidamente en el nombre del Señor Jesús que sigan progresando en el modo de vivir que agrada a Dios, tal como lo aprendieron de nosotros. De hecho, ya lo están practicando.

For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.

Ustedes saben cuáles son las instrucciones que les dimos de parte del Señor Jesús.

It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality;

La voluntad de Dios es que sean santificados; que se aparten de la inmoralidad sexual;

that each of you should learn to control your own body^[a] in a way that is holy and honorable,

que cada uno aprenda a controlar su propio cuerpo^[a] de una manera santa y honrosa,

not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God;

sin dejarse llevar por los malos deseos como hacen los paganos, que no conocen a Dios;

and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister.^[b] The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before.

y que nadie perjudique a su hermano ni se aproveche de él en este asunto. El Señor castiga todo esto, como ya les hemos dicho y advertido.

For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.

Dios no nos llamó a la impureza, sino a la santidad;

Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit.

por tanto, el que rechaza estas instrucciones no rechaza a un hombre, sino a Dios, quien les da a ustedes su Espíritu Santo.

Now about your love for one another we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other.

En cuanto al amor fraternal, no necesitan que les escribamos, porque Dios mismo les ha enseñado a amarse unos a otros.

And in fact, you do love all of God’s family throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers and sisters, to do so more and more,

En efecto, ustedes aman a todos los hermanos que viven en Macedonia. No obstante, hermanos, les animamos a amarse aún más,

and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you,

a procurar vivir en paz con todos, a ocuparse de sus propias responsabilidades y a trabajar con sus propias manos. Así les he mandado,

so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.

Believers Who Have Died

para que por su modo de vivir se ganen el respeto de los que no son creyentes, y no tengan que depender de nadie.

La venida del Señor

Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.

Hermanos, no queremos que ignoren lo que va a pasar con los que ya han muerto,^[b] para que no se entristezcan como esos otros que no tienen esperanza.

For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.

¿Acaso no creemos que Jesús murió y resucitó? Así también Dios resucitará con Jesús a los que han muerto en unión con él.

According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.

Conforme a lo dicho por el Señor, afirmamos que nosotros, los que estemos vivos y hayamos quedado hasta la venida del Señor, de ninguna manera nos adelantaremos a los que hayan muerto.

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

El Señor mismo descenderá del cielo con voz de mando, con voz de arcángel y con trompeta de Dios, y los muertos en Cristo resucitarán primero.

After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

Luego los que estemos vivos, los que hayamos quedado, seremos arrebatados junto con ellos en las nubes para encontrarnos con el Señor en el aire. Y así estaremos con el Señor para siempre.

Therefore encourage one another with these words.

Por lo tanto, anímense unos a otros con estas palabras.
