Genesis 28

So Isaac called for Jacob and blessed him. Then he commanded him: “Do not marry a Canaanite woman.

Isaac l-a chemat pe Iacov, l-a binecuvântat şi i-a poruncit astfel: „Să nu-ţi iei o soţie dintre canaanite.

Go at once to Paddan Aram,^[a] to the house of your mother’s father Bethuel. Take a wife for yourself there, from among the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother.

Ci du-te de îndată în Padan-Aram, la familia lui Betuel, tatăl mamei tale, şi ia-ţi de acolo o soţie dintre fiicele lui Laban, fratele mamei tale.

May God Almighty^[b] bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples.

Dumnezeul cel Atotputernic^[a] să te binecuvânteze, să te facă roditor şi să te înmulţească, pentru ca să ajungi o mulţime de popoare.

May he give you and your descendants the blessing given to Abraham, so that you may take possession of the land where you now reside as a foreigner, the land God gave to Abraham.”

El să-ţi dea, ţie şi urmaşilor tăi^[b], binecuvântarea dată lui Avraam, pentru ca astfel să iei în stăpânire ţara în care locuieşti acum, ţara pe care Dumnezeu i-a promis-o lui Avraam.“

Then Isaac sent Jacob on his way, and he went to Paddan Aram, to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, who was the mother of Jacob and Esau.

Astfel, Isaac l-a trimis pe Iacov şi acesta s-a dus în Padan-Aram, la Laban, fiul arameului Betuel şi fratele Rebecăi, mama lui Iacov şi a lui Esau.

Now Esau learned that Isaac had blessed Jacob and had sent him to Paddan Aram to take a wife from there, and that when he blessed him he commanded him, “Do not marry a Canaanite woman,”

Esau a văzut că Isaac l-a binecuvântat pe Iacov, l-a trimis în Padan-Aram ca să-şi ia o soţie de acolo şi că, atunci când l-a binecuvântat, i-a poruncit să nu-şi ia o soţie dintre canaanite,

and that Jacob had obeyed his father and mother and had gone to Paddan Aram.

precum şi că Iacov i-a ascultat pe tatăl său şi pe mama sa şi s-a dus în Padan-Aram.

Esau then realized how displeasing the Canaanite women were to his father Isaac;

Esau şi-a dat seama că tatălui său, Isaac, nu-i plăceau canaanitele.

so he went to Ishmael and married Mahalath, the sister of Nebaioth and daughter of Ishmael son of Abraham, in addition to the wives he already had.

Jacob’s Dream at Bethel

El s-a dus la ismaeliţi şi a luat-o de soţie pe Mahalat, sora lui Nebaiot şi fiica lui Ismael, fiul lui Avraam, pe lângă soţiile pe care le avea.

Visul lui Iacov la Betel

Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran.

Iacov a plecat din Beer-Şeba şi s-a dus la Haran.

When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep.

A ajuns într-un anumit loc şi, pentru că soarele asfinţise, a rămas acolo peste noapte. A luat o piatră, şi-a pus-o sub cap şi s-a culcat acolo.

He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.

El a avut un vis în care a văzut o scară care se rezema cu un capăt pe pământ, iar cu celălalt atingea cerul; îngerii lui Dumnezeu urcau şi coborau pe ea,

There above it^[c] stood the Lord, and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying.

iar Domnul stătea la capătul ei de sus. El i-a zis: „Eu sunt Domnul, Dumnezeul strămoşului tău, Avraam, şi Dumnezeul lui Isaac; teritoriul pe care eşti culcat ţi-l voi da ţie şi seminţei tale^[c].

Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.^[d]

Urmaşii tăi vor fi ca pulberea pământului şi te vei întinde spre apus şi spre răsărit, spre nord şi spre sud. Toate familiile pământului vor fi binecuvântate prin tine şi prin sămânţa ta.

I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

Eu voi fi cu tine, te voi păzi oriunde vei merge şi te voi aduce înapoi în această ţară; nu te voi părăsi până nu voi împlini ceea ce ţi-am promis.“

When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.”

Când s-a trezit din somn, Iacov a zis: „Cu siguranţă Domnul este în acest loc, iar eu n-am ştiut!“

He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.”

I s-a făcut frică şi a spus: „Cât de înfricoşător este acest loc! Aceasta nu este altceva decât casa lui Dumnezeu; aceasta este poarta cerului.“

Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it.

Iacov s-a sculat dis-de-dimineaţă, a luat piatra care fusese sub capul lui, a ridicat-o ca stâlp de aducere-aminte şi a turnat untdelemn pe vârful ei.

He called that place Bethel,^[e] though the city used to be called Luz.

El a numit acel loc Betel^[d], deşi, înainte, numele cetăţii era Luz.

Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear

Apoi Iacov a făcut un jurământ, zicând: „Dacă Dumnezeu va fi cu mine, dacă mă va păzi în această călătorie pe care o fac şi îmi va da hrană să mănânc şi haine să mă îmbrac,

so that I return safely to my father’s household, then the Lord^[f] will be my God

astfel încât mă voi întoarce în pace acasă la tatăl meu, şi dacă Domnul va fi Dumnezeul meu,

and^[g] this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.”

atunci^[e] această piatră, pe care am aşezat-o ca stâlp de aducere-aminte, va fi «casa lui Dumnezeu»; şi din tot ceea ce îmi vei da, Îţi voi da a zecea parte.“
