Genesis 15

After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision:

După toate acestea, Domnul i-a vorbit lui Avram într-o viziune astfel:

– Nu te teme, Avrame. Eu sunt scutul tău; răsplata ta va fi foarte mare.

But Abram said, “Sovereign Lord, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit^[c] my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?”

– Stăpâne Doamne, ce-mi vei da? I-a răspuns Avram. Căci mor fără copii, iar moştenitorul^[a] gospodăriei mele este Eliezer din Damasc?

And Abram said, “You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir.”

Nu mi-ai dat nici un urmaş, a continuat Avram, şi prin urmare, un sclav din gospodăria mea va fi moştenitorul meu.

Then the word of the Lord came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.”

Dar Domnul i-a răspuns:

– Nu acesta va fi moştenitorul tău, ci unul care se va naşte din tine, el îţi va fi moştenitor.

He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring^[d] be.”

Apoi l-a dus afară şi i-a spus:

– Uită-te la cer şi numără stelele, dacă poţi! Atât de numeroşi vor fi urmaşii tăi! a continuat El.

Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

Avram L-a crezut pe Domnul, şi El i-a socotit acest lucru dreptate.

He also said to him, “I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to take possession of it.”

Domnul i-a mai spus:

– Eu sunt Domnul Care te-a adus din Ur, din Caldeea, ca să-ţi dea această ţară drept moştenire.

But Abram said, “Sovereign Lord, how can I know that I will gain possession of it?”

– Stăpâne Doamne, cum voi şti că o voi moşteni? L-a întrebat Avram.

So the Lord said to him, “Bring me a heifer, a goat and a ram, each three years old, along with a dove and a young pigeon.”

– Adu-Mi o junincă de trei ani, a răspuns El, o capră de trei ani, un berbec de trei ani, o turturea şi un pui de porumbel.

Abram brought all these to him, cut them in two and arranged the halves opposite each other; the birds, however, he did not cut in half.

Avram I-a adus toate acestea, le-a despicat în două şi a aşezat jumătăţile una în faţa celeilalte; dar păsările nu le-a despicat.

Then birds of prey came down on the carcasses, but Abram drove them away.

Când păsările de pradă s-au năpustit asupra stârvurilor, Avram le-a izgonit.

As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him.

Pe când apunea soarele, pe Avram l-a cuprins un somn adânc şi un întuneric mare şi înfricoşător a venit peste el.

Then the Lord said to him, “Know for certain that for four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there.

Atunci Domnul i-a zis lui Avram: „Să ştii că urmaşii tăi vor fi străini într-o ţară care nu este a lor şi vor fi înrobiţi şi asupriţi timp de patru sute de ani^[b].

But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions.

Dar pe neamul căruia îi vor sluji ei îl voi judeca Eu, iar după aceea vor ieşi de acolo cu mari bogăţii.

You, however, will go to your ancestors in peace and be buried at a good old age.

Tu însă vei merge la strămoşii tăi în pace; vei fi îngropat după o bătrâneţe fericită.

In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure.”

Urmaşii tăi se vor întoarce aici în a patra generaţie^[c], pentru că nelegiuirea amoriţilor nu este încă deplină.“

When the sun had set and darkness had fallen, a smoking firepot with a blazing torch appeared and passed between the pieces.

Când a apus soarele şi s-a întunecat, s-a văzut un fum ca de cuptor şi o torţă aprinsă care a trecut printre acele bucăţi.

On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram and said, “To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi^[e] of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates—

În ziua aceea, Domnul a încheiat un legământ cu Avram, zicând: „Seminţei tale^[d] îi voi da această ţară, de la Râul Egiptului^[e] până la Râul cel Mare, adică Eufrat,

the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites,

şi anume pe cheniţi, pe cheniziţi, pe cadmoniţi,

Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites,

pe hitiţi, pe periziţi, pe refaimiţi,

Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites.”

pe amoriţi, pe canaaniţi, pe ghirgasiţi şi pe iebusiţi.“
