Genesis 12

The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.

Îi voi binecuvânta pe cei ce te vor binecuvânta, dar îl voi blestema pe cel ce te va blestema. Prin tine vor fi binecuvântate toate familiile^[a] pământului!“

So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran.

Avram a plecat, aşa cum îi spusese Domnul, iar Lot a mers împreună cu el. Avram avea şaptezeci şi cinci de ani când a plecat din Haran.

He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there.

El a luat-o pe soţia sa, Sarai, şi pe nepotul său Lot, toate bunurile pe care ei le-au adunat şi sclavii pe care i-au dobândit în Haran, au plecat spre Canaan şi au ajuns acolo.

Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land.

Avram a călătorit prin ţară până la terebintul lui More din Şehem. Pe atunci canaaniţii se aflau în ţară.

The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring^[c] I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.

Domnul i S-a arătat lui Avram şi i-a zis: „Seminţei tale^[b] îi voi da această ţară!“ Avram a zidit acolo un altar Domnului Care i Se arătase.

From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.

De acolo a pornit spre munte, la răsărit de Betel şi şi-a întins cortul, având Betelul la apus, iar Ai la răsărit. El a zidit acolo un altar Domnului şi a chemat Numele Domnului.

Then Abram set out and continued toward the Negev.

Apoi Avram a călătorit în continuare spre Neghev^[c].

Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe.

A venit o foamete în ţară şi, pentru că foametea era grea, Avram s-a dus în Egipt ca să locuiască acolo pentru o vreme.

As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, “I know what a beautiful woman you are.

Când era aproape de a intra în Egipt, Avram i-a zis soţiei sale, Sarai: „Ştiu că eşti o femeie frumoasă.

When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me but will let you live.

Când te vor vedea egiptenii şi îşi vor da seama că eşti soţia mea, pe mine mă vor omorî, iar pe tine te vor lăsa în viaţă.

Say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you.”

Spune că eşti sora mea, ca să-mi meargă bine din cauza ta şi viaţa să-mi fie cruţată datorită ţie.“

When Abram came to Egypt, the Egyptians saw that Sarai was a very beautiful woman.

Când Avram a intrat în Egipt, egiptenii au văzut că Sarai era foarte frumoasă.

And when Pharaoh’s officials saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh, and she was taken into his palace.

Demnitarii lui Faraon^[d] au văzut-o, i-au lăudat-o, iar ea a fost adusă în familia lui.

He treated Abram well for her sake, and Abram acquired sheep and cattle, male and female donkeys, male and female servants, and camels.

Faraon l-a tratat bine pe Avram datorită ei şi i-a dat oi, boi, măgari, măgăriţe, sclavi, sclave şi cămile.

But the Lord inflicted serious diseases on Pharaoh and his household because of Abram’s wife Sarai.

Dar Domnul l-a lovit cu urgii pe Faraon şi familia lui din cauza lui Sarai, soţia lui Avram.

So Pharaoh summoned Abram. “What have you done to me?” he said. “Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife?

Atunci Faraon l-a chemat pe Avram şi l-a întrebat: „De ce mi-ai făcut una ca asta? De ce nu mi-ai spus că ea este soţia ta?

Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her to be my wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and go!”

De ce ai pretins că este sora ta, iar eu am luat-o de soţie? Ia-ţi soţia şi du-te!“

Then Pharaoh gave orders about Abram to his men, and they sent him on his way, with his wife and everything he had.

Faraon le-a dat porunci oamenilor săi cu privire la Avram, iar aceştia l-au izgonit împreună cu soţia lui şi cu tot ce avea.
