1 Kings 10

When the queen of Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon and his relationship to the Lord, she came to test Solomon with hard questions.

Când regina din Şeba a auzit despre faima lui Solomon datorată Numelui Domnului, a venit ca să-l încerce prin întrebări grele.

Arriving at Jerusalem with a very great caravan—with camels carrying spices, large quantities of gold, and precious stones—she came to Solomon and talked with him about all that she had on her mind.

Ea a sosit la Ierusalim însoţită de o caravană foarte numeroasă, având cu ea cămile încărcate cu mirodenii, foarte mult aur şi pietre preţioase; a venit la Solomon şi i-a vorbit despre tot ce avea pe inimă.

Solomon answered all her questions; nothing was too hard for the king to explain to her.

Solomon i-a răspuns la toate întrebările; nu a fost nimic prea greu pe care regele să nu fi ştiut să i-l clarifice.

When the queen of Sheba saw all the wisdom of Solomon and the palace he had built,

Când regina din Şeba a văzut toată înţelepciunea lui Solomon, palatul pe care-l zidise,

the food on his table, the seating of his officials, the attending servants in their robes, his cupbearers, and the burnt offerings he made at^[a] the temple of the Lord, she was overwhelmed.

mâncarea de la masa lui, locuinţa slujitorilor săi, slujirea servitorilor săi, veşmintele acestora, paharnicii lui şi arderile lui de tot, pe care le aducea la Casa Domnului,^[a] i s-a tăiat răsuflarea.

She said to the king, “The report I heard in my own country about your achievements and your wisdom is true.

Apoi i-a zis regelui: „Aşadar, este adevărat ce am auzit în ţara mea despre faptele tale şi despre înţelepciunea ta!

But I did not believe these things until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half was told me; in wisdom and wealth you have far exceeded the report I heard.

Dar nu am crezut aceste lucruri până când nu am venit şi până nu le-am văzut cu ochii mei. Iată însă că nu mi s-a spus nici măcar pe jumătate! Tu ai mai multă înţelepciune şi bogăţie decât se spune în zvonul pe care l-am auzit.

How happy your people must be! How happy your officials, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom!

Fericiţi sunt oamenii tăi şi fericiţi sunt aceşti slujitori ai tăi care stau mereu înaintea ta şi care aud înţelepciunea ta!

Praise be to the Lord your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel, he has made you king to maintain justice and righteousness.”

Binecuvântat să fie Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, Care Şi-a găsit plăcerea în tine, punându-te pe tronul lui Israel. Domnul îl iubeşte pe vecie pe Israel! El te-a pus rege ca să faci judecată şi dreptate.“

And she gave the king 120 talents^[b] of gold, large quantities of spices, and precious stones. Never again were so many spices brought in as those the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.

Şi ea i-a dăruit regelui o sută douăzeci de talanţi^[b] de aur, o mare cantitate de mirodenii, precum şi pietre preţioase. Niciodată n-au mai fost aduse aşa de multe mirodenii ca acelea pe care regina din Şeba i le-a dăruit regelui Solomon.

(Hiram’s ships brought gold from Ophir; and from there they brought great cargoes of almugwood^[c] and precious stones.

(Corăbiile lui Hiram, care au adus aur din Ofir, au mai adus din Ofir şi mari cantităţi de lemn de almug^[c] şi pietre preţioase.

The king used the almugwood to make supports^[d] for the temple of the Lord and for the royal palace, and to make harps and lyres for the musicians. So much almugwood has never been imported or seen since that day.)

Din lemnul de almug regele a făcut trepte pentru Casa Domnului şi pentru palatul regelui, lire şi harfe pentru cântăreţi. Niciodată n-a mai fost adus lemn de almug şi nici n-a mai fost văzut de atunci.)

King Solomon gave the queen of Sheba all she desired and asked for, besides what he had given her out of his royal bounty. Then she left and returned with her retinue to her own country.

Solomon’s Splendor

Regele Solomon i-a dat reginei din Şeba tot ceea ce ea şi-a dorit şi a cerut, pe lângă ceea ce regele Solomon i-a dăruit din generozitate. După aceea ea a plecat şi s-a întors în ţara sa împreună cu slujitorii săi.

Pericolele gloriei lui Solomon: condamnarea lui Solomon

The weight of the gold that Solomon received yearly was 666 talents,^[e]

Cantitatea de aur care intra anual în vistieria lui Solomon era de şase sute şaizeci şi şase de talanţi^[d] de aur,

not including the revenues from merchants and traders and from all the Arabian kings and the governors of the territories.

în afară de cel care venea de la negustori şi din negoţul comercianţilor, de la toţi regii Arabiei şi de la guvernatorii ţării.

King Solomon made two hundred large shields of hammered gold; six hundred shekels^[f] of gold went into each shield.

Regele Solomon a făcut două sute de scuturi mari din aur bătut, pentru fiecare scut folosind câte şase sute de şecheli^[e] de aur,

He also made three hundred small shields of hammered gold, with three minas^[g] of gold in each shield. The king put them in the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon.

şi trei sute de scuturi mici din aur bătut, pentru fiecare dintre aceste scuturi folosind câte trei mine^[f] de aur. Regele le-a pus în Palatul Pădurii Libanului.

Then the king made a great throne covered with ivory and overlaid with fine gold.

Regele a mai făcut şi un tron mare din fildeş şi l-a poleit cu aur pur.

The throne had six steps, and its back had a rounded top. On both sides of the seat were armrests, with a lion standing beside each of them.

Tronul avea şase trepte, iar partea de sus era rotundă în spate. De fiecare parte a tronului era câte o rezemătoare, iar lângă fiecare rezemătoare era aşezat câte un leu.

Twelve lions stood on the six steps, one at either end of each step. Nothing like it had ever been made for any other kingdom.

Pe cele şase trepte erau aşezaţi, de-o parte şi de alta, doisprezece lei. Aşa ceva nu se mai făcuse pentru nici un regat.

All King Solomon’s goblets were gold, and all the household articles in the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon were pure gold. Nothing was made of silver, because silver was considered of little value in Solomon’s days.

Toate vasele de băut ale regelui Solomon erau din aur şi toate vasele din Palatul Pădurii Libanului erau din aur pur. Nici unul nu era din argint, întrucât argintul nu era de mare preţ în zilele lui Solomon.

The king had a fleet of trading ships^[h] at sea along with the ships of Hiram. Once every three years it returned, carrying gold, silver and ivory, and apes and baboons.

Căci regele avea pe mare corăbii de Tarşiş^[g] care navigau împreună cu corăbiile lui Hiram şi o dată la trei ani aduceau aur, argint, fildeş, maimuţe şi păuni.

King Solomon was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth.

Regele Solomon i-a întrecut în bogăţie şi în înţelepciune pe toţi regii pământului.

The whole world sought audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart.

Toată lumea căuta să-l vadă pe Solomon, ca să-i asculte înţelepciunea pe care Dumnezeu o pusese în mintea lui.

Year after year, everyone who came brought a gift—articles of silver and gold, robes, weapons and spices, and horses and mules.

An de an, fiecare dintre cei care veneau îşi aduceau darul: vase de argint şi de aur, haine, arme, mirodenii, cai şi catâri.

Solomon accumulated chariots and horses; he had fourteen hundred chariots and twelve thousand horses,^[i] which he kept in the chariot cities and also with him in Jerusalem.

Solomon a adunat care şi cai; avea o mie patru sute de care şi douăsprezece mii de cai^[h], pe care îi ţinea în cetăţile pentru care, precum şi împreună cu el, la Ierusalim.

The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones, and cedar as plentiful as sycamore-fig trees in the foothills.

Regele a făcut ca argintul să fie la fel de obişnuit în Ierusalim precum pietrele, iar cedrii la fel de numeroşi precum sicomorii de pe dealuri^[i].

Solomon’s horses were imported from Egypt and from Kue^[j]—the royal merchants purchased them from Kue at the current price.

Caii, pe care Solomon îi avea, erau aduşi din Egipt^[j] şi din Kue^[k]; negustorii regelui îi cumpărau din Kue pe un preţ stabilit.

They imported a chariot from Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty.^[k] They also exported them to all the kings of the Hittites and of the Arameans.

Un car era cumpărat din Egipt cu şase sute de şecheli^[l] de argint, iar un cal cu o sută cincizeci de şecheli^[m]. De asemenea, prin ei erau vânduţi cai şi care tuturor regilor hitiţilor şi regilor Aramului.
