2 Peter 1

Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,

To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:

مِنْ سِمْعَانَ بُطْرُسَ، عَبْدِ يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ وَرَسُولِهِ، إِلَى الَّذِينَ يُشَارِكُونَنَا فِي الإِيمَانِ الْوَاحِدِ الثَّمِينِ الَّذِي نَتَسَاوَى جَمِيعاً فِي الْحُصُولِ عَلَيْهِ بِبِرِّ إِلَهِنَا وَمُخَلِّصِنَا يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ!

Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

Confirming One’s Calling and Election

لِيَكُنْ لَكُمُ الْمَزِيدُ مِنَ النِّعْمَةِ وَالسَّلامِ بِفَضْلِ مَعْرِفَةِ اللهِ وَيَسُوعَ رَبِّنَا!

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

إِنَّ اللهَ، بِقُدْرَتِهِ الإِلَهِيَّةِ، قَدْ زَوَّدَنَا بِكُلِّ مَا نَحْتَاجُ إِلَيْهِ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الرُّوحِيَّةِ الْمُتَّصِفَةِ بِالتَّقْوَى. ذَلِكَ أَنَّهُ عَرَّفَنَا بِالْمَسِيحِ الَّذِي دَعَانَا إِلَى مَجْدِهِ وَفَضِيلَتِهِ،

Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

اللَّذَيْنِ بِهِمَا أَعْطَانَا اللهُ بَرَكَاتِهِ الْعُظْمَى الثَّمِينَةَ الَّتِي كَانَ قَدْ وَعَدَ بِها. وَبِهَذَا صَارَ بِإِمْكَانِكُمْ أَنْ تَتَخَلَّصُوا مِنَ الْفَسَادِ الَّذِي تَنْشُرُهُ الشَّهْوَةُ فِي الْعَالَمِ، وَتَشْتَرِكُوا فِي الطَّبِيعَةِ الإِلَهِيَّةِ.

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge;

فَمِنْ أَجْلِ ذَلِكَ، عَلَيْكُمْ أَنْ تَبْذُلُوا كُلَّ اجْتِهَادٍ وَنَشَاطٍ فِي مُمَارَسَةِ إِيمَانِكُمْ حَتَّى يُؤَدِّيَ بِكُمْ إِلَى الْفَضِيلَةِ. وَأَقْرِنُوا الْفَضِيلَةَ بِالتَّقَدُّمِ فِي الْمَعْرِفَةِ،

and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;

وَالْمَعْرِفَةَ بِضَبْطِ النَّفْسِ، وَضَبْطَ النَّفْسِ بِالصَّبْرِ، وَالصَّبْرَ بِالتَّقْوَى،

and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.

وَالتَّقْوَى بِالْمَوَدَّةِ الأَخَوِيَّةِ، وَالْمَوَدَّةَ الأَخَوِيَّةَ بِالْمَحَبَّةِ.

For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

فَحِينَ تَكُونُ هَذِهِ الصِّفَاتُ الطَّيِّبَةُ فِي دَاخِلِكُمْ، وَتَزْدَادُ بِوَفْرَةٍ، تَجْعَلُكُمْ مُجْتَهِدِينَ وَمُثْمِرِينَ فِي مَعْرِفَتِكُمْ لِرَبِّنَا يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ.

But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.

أَمَّا الَّذِي لَا يَمْلِكُ هَذِهِ الصِّفَاتِ، فَهُوَ أَعْمَى رُوحِيًّا. إِنَّهُ قَصِيرُ الْبَصَرِ، قَدْ نَسِيَ أَنَّهُ تَطَهَّرَ مِنْ خَطَايَاهُ الْقَدِيمَةِ!

Therefore, my brothers and sisters,^[a] make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble,

فَأَحْرَى بِكُمْ إِذَنْ، أَيُّهَا الإِخْوَةُ، أَنْ تَجْتَهِدُوا لِتُثْبِتُوا عَمَلِيًّا أَنَّ اللهَ قَدْ دَعَاكُمْ وَاخْتَارَكُمْ حَقّاً. فَإِنَّكُمْ، إِنْ فَعَلْتُمْ هَذَا، لَنْ تَسْقُطُوا أَبَداً!

and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Prophecy of Scripture

وَهَكَذَا يَفْتَحُ اللهُ لَكُمُ الْبَابَ وَاسِعاً لِلدُّخُولِ إِلَى الْمَلَكُوتِ الأَبَدِيِّ، مَلَكُوتِ رَبِّنَا وَمُخَلِّصِنَا يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ.

So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have.

لِذَلِكَ أَنْوِي أَنْ أُذَكِّرَكُمْ دَائِماً بِهذِهِ الأُمُورِ، وَإِنْ كُنْتُمْ عَالِمِينَ بِها، وَرَاسِخِينَ فِي الْحَقِّ الَّذِي عِنْدَكُمْ.

I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body,

فَمَادُمْتُ فِي خَيْمَةِ جِسْمِي هَذِهِ، أَرَى مِنْ وَاجِبِي أَنْ أُنَبِّهَكُمْ مُذَكِّراً.

because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.

فَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ أَن خَيْمَتِي سَتُطْوَى بَعْدَ وَقْتٍ قَصِيرٍ، كَمَا سَبَقَ أَنْ أَعْلَنَ لِي رَبُّنَا يَسُوعُ الْمَسِيحُ.

And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.

وَلِهَذَا، أَجْتَهِدُ الآنَ فِي تَذْكِيرِكُمْ بِهَذِهِ الأُمُورِ، حَتَّى تَسْتَطِيعُوا أَنْ تَتَذَكَّرُوهَا دَائِماً بَعْدَ رَحِيلِي.

شهادة الرسل الثابتة

For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

فَنَحْنُ، عِنْدَمَا أَخْبَرْنَاكُمْ بِقُدْرَةِ رَبِّنَا يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ، وَبِعَوْدَتِهِ الْمَجِيدَةِ، لَمْ نَكُنْ نَنْقُلُ عَنْ أَسَاطِيرَ مُخْتَلَقَةٍ بِمَهَارَةٍ. وَإِنَّمَا، تَكَلَّمْنَا بِاعْتِبَارِنَا شُهُودَ عَيَانٍ لِعَظَمَةِ الْمَسِيحِ.

He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”^[b]

فَإِنَّهُ قَدْ نَالَ مِنَ اللهِ الآبِ كَرَامَةً وَمَجْداً، إِذْ جَاءَهُ مِنَ الْمَجْدِ الْفَائِقِ صَوْتٌ يَقُولُ: «هَذَا هُوَ ابْنِي الْحَبِيبُ الَّذِي بِهِ سُرِرْتُ كُلَّ سُرُورٍ!»

We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.

وَنَحْنُ أَنْفُسُنَا قَدْ سَمِعْنَا هَذَا الصَّوْتَ الصَّادِرَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ لَمَّا كُنَّا مَعَهُ عَلَى الْجَبَلِ الْمُقَدَّسِ.

We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

وَهَكَذَا، صَارَتِ الْكَلِمَةُ النَّبَوِيَّةُ أَكْثَرَ ثَبَاتاً عِنْدَنَا. فَحَسَناً تَفْعَلُونَ إِنِ انْتَبَهْتُمْ إِلَى هَذِهِ الْكَلِمَةِ فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ. إِذْ إِنَّهَا أَشْبَهُ بِمِصْبَاحٍ يُضِيءُ فِي مَكَانٍ مُظْلِمٍ، إِلَى أَنْ يَطَلَعَ النَّهَارُ وَيَظْهَرَ كَوْكَبُ الصُّبْحِ.

Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things.

وَلَكِنْ، قَبْلَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ، اعْلَمُوا أَنَّ كُلَّ نُبُوءَةٍ وَارِدَةٍ فِي الْكِتَابِ لَا تُفَسَّرُ بِاجْتِهَادٍ خَاصٍّ.

For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

إِذْ لَمْ تَأْتِ نُبُوءَةٌ قَطُّ بِإِرَادَةٍ بَشَرِيَّةٍ، بَلْ تَكَلَّمَ بِالنُّبُوءاتِ جَمِيعاً رِجَالُ اللهِ الْقِدِّيسُونَ مَدْفُوعِينَ بِوَحْيِ الرُّوحِ الْقُدُسِ.
