1 Peter 1

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,

To God’s elect, exiles scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia,

مِنْ بُطْرُسَ، رَسُولِ يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ إِلَى الْمُشَتَّتِينَ الْمُغْتَرِبِينَ فِي بِلادِ بُنْطُسَ وَغَلاطِيَّةَ وَكَبَّدُوكِيَّةَ وَآسِيَّا وَبِيثِينِيَّةَ،

who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood:

Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

Praise to God for a Living Hope

أُولئِكَ الَّذِينَ اخْتَارَهُمُ اللهُ الآبُ بِحَسَبِ عِلْمِهِ السَّابِقِ ثُمَّ قَدَّسَهُمْ بِالرُّوحِ لِيُطِيعُوا يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحَ وَيَطْهُرُوا بِرَشِّ دَمِهِ عَلَيْهِمْ.

لِيَكُنْ لَكُمُ الْمَزِيدُ مِنَ النِّعْمَةِ وَالسَّلامِ.

تسبيح الله لأجل الرجاء الحي

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

تَبَارَكَ اللهُ أَبُو رَبِّنَا يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ، فَمِنْ فَرْطِ رَحْمَتِهِ الْعَظِيمَةِ وَلَدَنَا وِلادَةً ثَانِيَةً، مَلِيئَةً بِالرَّجَاءِ عَلَى أَسَاسِ قِيَامَةِ يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ مِنْ بَيْنِ الأَمْوَاتِ،

and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you,

وَإِرْثاً لَا يَفْنَى وَلا يَفْسُدُ وَلا يَزُولُ، مَحْفُوظاً لَكُمْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ.

who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

فَإِنَّكُمْ مَحْفُوظُونَ بِقُدْرَةِ اللهِ الْعَامِلَةِ مِنْ خِلالِ إِيمَانِكُمْ، إِلَى أَنْ تَفُوزُوا بِالْخَلاصِ النِّهَائِيِّ الْمُعَدِّ لَكُمْ، الَّذِي سَوْفَ يَتَجَلَّى فِي الزَّمَانِ الأَخِيرِ.

In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.

وَهَذَا يَدْعُوكُمْ إِلَى الابْتِهَاجِ، مَعَ أَنَّهُ لابُدَّ لَكُمُ الآنَ مِنَ الْحُزْنِ فَتْرَةً قَصِيرَةً تَحْتَ وَطْأَةِ التَّجَارِبِ الْمُتَنَوِّعَةِ!

These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

إِلّا أَنَّ غَايَةَ هذِهِ التَّجَارِبِ هِيَ اخْتِبَارُ حَقِيقَةِ إِيمَانِكُمْ. فَكَمَا تَخْتَبِرُ النَّارُ الذَّهَبَ وَتُنَقِّيهِ، تَخْتَبِرُ التَّجَارِبُ حَقِيقَةَ إِيمَانِكُمْ، وَهُوَ أَثْمَنُ جِدّاً مِنَ الذَّهَبِ الْفَانِي. وَهكَذَا، يَكُونُ إِيمَانُكُمْ مَدْعَاةَ مَدْحٍ وَإِكْرَامٍ وَتَمْجِيدٍ لَكُمْ، عِنْدَمَا يَعُودُ يَسُوعُ الْمَسِيحُ ظَاهِراً بِمَجْدِهِ.

Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,

أَنْتُمْ لَمْ تَرَوْا الْمَسِيحَ، وَلكِنَّكُمْ تُحِبُّونَهُ. وَمَعَ أَنَّكُمْ لَا تَرَوْنَهُ الآنَ، فَأَنْتُمْ تُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ وَتَبْتَهِجُونَ بِفَرَحٍ مَجِيدٍ يَفُوقُ الْوَصْفَ.

for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

إِذْ تَبْلُغُونَ هَدَفَ إِيمَانِكُمْ، وَهُوَ خَلاصُ نُفُوسِكُمْ.

Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care,

وَكَمْ فَتَّشَ الأَنْبِيَاءُ قَدِيماً وَبَحَثُوا عَنْ هَذَا الْخَلاصِ! فَهُمْ تَنَبَّأُوا عَنْ نِعْمَةِ اللهِ الَّتِي كَانَ قَدْ أَعَدَّهَا لَكُمْ أَنْتُمْ،

trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow.

وَاجْتَهَدُوا لِمَعْرِفَةِ الزَّمَانِ وَالأَحْوَالِ الَّتِي كَانَ يُشِيرُ إِلَيْهَا رُوحُ الْمَسِيحِ الَّذِي كَانَ عَامِلاً فِيهِمْ، عِنْدَمَا شَهِدَ لَهُمْ مُسْبَقاً بِمَا يَنْتَظِرُ الْمَسِيحَ مِنْ آلامٍ، وَبِمَا يَأْتِي بَعْدَهَا مِنْ أَمْجَادٍ.

It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

Be Holy

وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ أَوْحَى إِلَيْهِمْ أَنَّ اجْتِهَادَهُمْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لِمَصْلَحَتِهِمْ هُمْ، بَلْ لِمَصْلَحَتِكُمْ أَنْتُمْ. فَقَدْ كَانَ ذَلِكَ مِنْ أَجْلِ الْبِشَارَةِ الَّتِي نَقَلَهَا إِلَيْكُمْ فِي الزَّمَانِ الْحَاضِرِ مُبَشِّرُونَ يُؤَيِّدُهُمُ الرُّوحُ الْقُدُسُ الْمُرْسَلُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ. وَيَالَهَا مِنْ أُمُورٍ يَتَمَنَّى حَتَّى الْمَلائِكَةُ أَنْ يَطَّلِعُوا عَلَيْهَا!

Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.

لِذَلِكَ اجْعَلُوا أَذْهَانَكُمْ مُتَنَبِّهَةً دَائِماً، وَتَيَقَّظُوا، وَعَلِّقُوا رَجَاءَكُمْ كُلَّهُ عَلَى النِّعْمَةِ الَّتِي سَتَكُونُ مِنْ نَصِيبِكُمْ عِنْدَمَا يَعُودُ يَسُوعُ الْمَسِيحُ ظَاهِراً بِمَجْدِهِ!

كونوا قديسين

As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.

وَبِمَا أَنَّكُمْ صِرْتُمْ أَوْلاداً لِلهِ مُطِيعِينَ لَهُ، فَلا تَعُودُوا إِلَى مُجَارَاةِ الشَّهَوَاتِ الَّتِي كَانَتْ تُسَيْطِرُ عَلَيْكُمْ سَابِقاً فِي أَيَّامِ جَهْلِكُمْ.

But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;

وَإِنَّمَا اسْلُكُوا سُلُوكاً مُقَدَّساً فِي كُلِّ أَمْرٍ، مُقْتَدِينَ بِالْقُدُّوسِ الَّذِي دَعَاكُمْ،

for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”^[a]

لأَنَّهُ قَدْ كُتِبَ: «كُونُوا قِدِّيسِينَ، لأَنِّي أَنَا قُدُّوسٌ!»

Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear.

وَمَا دُمْتُمْ تَعْتَرِفُونَ بِاللهِ أَباً لَكُمْ، وَهُوَ يَحْكُمُ عَلَى كُلِّ إِنْسَانٍ حَسَبَ أَعْمَالِهِ دُونَ انْحِيَازٍ، فَاسْلُكُوا فِي مَخَافَتِهِ مُدَّةَ إِقَامَتِكُمُ الْمُؤَقَّتَةِ عَلَى الأَرْضِ.

For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors,

وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّهُ قَدْ دَفَعَ الْفِدْيَةَ لِيُحَرِّرَكُمْ مِنْ سِيرَةِ حَيَاتِكُمُ الْبَاطِلَةِ الَّتِي أَخَذْتُمُوهَا بِالتَّقْلِيدِ عَنْ آبَائِكُمْ. وَهَذِهِ الْفِدْيَةُ لَمْ تَكُنْ شَيْئاً فَانِياً كَالْفِضَّةِ أَوِ الذَّهَبِ،

but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

بَلْ كَانَتْ دَماً ثَمِيناً، دَمَ الْمَسِيحِ، ذَلِكَ الْحَمَلِ الطَّاهِرِ الَّذِي لَيْسَ فِيهِ عَيْبٌ وَلا دَنَسٌ!

He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.

وَمَعَ أَنَّ اللهَ كَانَ قَدْ عَيَّنَهُ لِهَذَا الْغَرَضِ قَبْلَ تَأْسِيسِ الْعَالَمِ، فَهُوَ لَمْ يُعْلِنْهُ إِلّا فِي هَذَا الزَّمَنِ الأَخِيرِ لِفَائِدَتِكُمْ

Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.

أَنْتُمُ الَّذِينَ بِوَاسِطَةِ الْمَسِيحِ تُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللهِ الَّذِي أَقَامَهُ مِنَ الْمَوْتِ وَأَعْطَاهُ الْمَجْدَ، حَتَّى يَكُونَ اللهُ غَايَةَ إِيمَانِكُمْ وَرَجَائِكُمْ.

Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.^[b]

وَإِذْ قَدْ خَضَعْتُمْ لِلْحَقِّ، فَتَطَهَّرَتْ نُفُوسُكُمْ وَصِرْتُمْ قَادِرِينَ أَنْ تُحِبُّوا الآخَرِينَ مَحَبَّةً أَخَوِيَّةً لَا رِيَاءَ فِيهَا، أَحِبُّوا بَعْضُكُمْ بَعْضاً مَحَبَّةً شَدِيدَةً صَادِرَةً مِنْ قَلْبٍ طَاهِرٍ!

For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

فَأَنْتُمْ قَدْ وُلِدْتُمْ وِلادَةً ثَانِيَةً لَا مِنْ زَرْعٍ بَشَرِيٍّ يَفْنَى، بَلْ مِمَّا لَا يَفْنَى: بِكَلِمَةِ اللهِ الْحَيَّةِ الْبَاقِيَةِ إِلَى الأَبَدِ.

For,

أَمَّا كَلِمَةُ الرَّبِّ فَتَبْقَى ثَابِتَةً إِلَى الأَبَدِ، وَهِيَ الْكَلِمَةُ الَّتِي وَصَلَتْ بِشَارَتُهَا إِلَيْكُمْ!
