The sons of Noah:^[a]

Shem, Ham and Japheth.

نُوحٌ، سَامٌ، حَامٌ، يَافَثُ.

أبناء يافث

The sons^[b] of Japheth:

Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshek and Tiras.

أَمَّا أَبْنَاءُ يَافَثَ فَهُمْ: جُومَرُ وَمَاجُوجُ وَمَادَايُ وَيَاوَانُ وَتُوبَالُ، وَمَاشَكُ وَتِيرَاسُ.

The sons of Gomer:

Ashkenaz, Riphath^[c] and Togarmah.

وَأَبْنَاءُ جُومَرَ: أَشْكَنَازُ وَرِيفَاثُ وَتُوجَرْمَةُ.

The sons of Javan:

Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittites and the Rodanites.

وَأَبْنَاءُ يَاوَانَ: أَلِيشَةُ وَتَرْشِيشَةُ وَكِتِّيمُ وَدُودَانِيمُ.

أبناء حام

The sons of Ham:

Cush, Egypt, Put and Canaan.

أَمَّا أَبْنَاءُ حامٍ فَهُمْ: كُوشٌ وَمِصْرَايِمُ وَفُوطٌ وَكَنْعَانُ.

The sons of Cush:

Seba, Havilah, Sabta, Raamah and Sabteka.

The sons of Raamah:

Sheba and Dedan.

وَأَبْنَاءُ كُوشٍ: سَبَا وَحَوِيلَةُ وَسَبْتَا وَرَعَمَا وَسَبْتَكَا. وَأَبْنَاءُ رَعَمَا: شَبَا وَدَادَانُ.

Cush was the father^[d] of

Nimrod, who became a mighty warrior on earth.

وَأَنْجَبَ كُوشٌ نِمْرُودَ الَّذِي شَبَّ وَصَارَ مُحَارِباً مَرْهُوباً فِي الأَرْضِ.

Egypt was the father of

the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites,

وَأَنْجَبَ مِصْرَايِمُ لُودِيمَ وَعَنَامِيمَ وَلَهَابِيمَ وَنَفْتُوحِيمَ،

Pathrusites, Kasluhites (from whom the Philistines came) and Caphtorites.

وَفَتْرُوسِيمَ وَكَسْلُوحِيمَ الَّذِينَ تَحَدَّرَ مِنْهُمُ الْفِلِسْطِينِيُّونَ وَالْكَفْتُورِيُّونَ.

Canaan was the father of

Sidon his firstborn,^[e] and of the Hittites,

وَأَنْجَبَ كَنْعَانُ بِكْرَهُ صِيدُونَ، وَمِنْ صُلْبِهِ تَحَدَّرَ الْحِثِّيُّونَ.

Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites,

وَالْيَبُوسِيُّونَ وَالأَمُورِيُّونَ، وَالْجِرْجَاشِيُّونَ،

Hivites, Arkites, Sinites,

وَالْحِوِّيُّونَ وَالْعَرْقِيُّونَ وَالسِّينِيُّونَ،

Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites.

وَالأَرْوَادِيُّونَ وَالصَّمَّارِيُّونَ وَالْحَمَاثِيُّونَ.

أبناء سام

The sons of Shem:

Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram.

The sons of Aram:^[f]

Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshek.

أَمَّا أَبْنَاءُ سَامٍ فَهُمْ: عِيلامُ وَأَشُورُ وأَرْفَكْشَادُ وَلُودٌ وَأَرَامُ وَعُوصُ وَحُولُ وَجَاثَرُ وَمَاشَكُ.

Arphaxad was the father of Shelah,

and Shelah the father of Eber.

وَأَنْجَبَ أَرْفَكْشَادُ شَالَحَ، وَأَنْجَبَ شَالَحُ عَابِرَ.

Two sons were born to Eber:

One was named Peleg,^[g] because in his time the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan.

وَوُلِدَ لِعَابِرَ ابْنَانِ، اسْمُ أَحَدِهِمَا فَالَجُ لأَنَّ شُعُوبَ الأَرْضِ انْقَسَمَتْ فِي أَيَّامِهِ إِلَى قَبَائِلَ حَسَبَ لُغَاتِهَا. وَاسْمُ أَخِيهِ يَقْطَانُ.

Joktan was the father of

Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,

وَأَنْجَبَ يَقْطَانُ أَلْمُودَادَ وَشَالَفَ وَحَضَرْمَوْتَ وَيَارَحَ،

Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,

وَهَدُورَامَ وَأُوزَالَ وَدِقْلَةَ،

Obal,^[h] Abimael, Sheba,

وَعِيبَالَ وَأَبِيمَايِلَ وَشَبَا،

Ophir, Havilah and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan.

وَأُوفِيرَ وَحَوِيلَةَ وَيُوبَابَ. وَجَمِيعُ هَؤُلاءِ هُمْ أَبْنَاءُ يَقْطَانَ.

Shem, Arphaxad,^[i] Shelah,

أَمَّا إِبْرَاهِيمُ فَقَدْ تَحَدَّرَ مِنْ نَسْلِ سَامٍ، أَرْفَكْشَادَ، شَالَحَ،

Eber, Peleg, Reu,

عَابِرَ، فَالَجَ، رَعُو،

Serug, Nahor, Terah

سَرُوجَ، نَاحُورَ، تَارَحَ،

and Abram (that is, Abraham).

الَّذِي أَنْجَبَ أَبْرَامَ الَّذِي دُعِيَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ.

أسرة إبراهيم

The sons of Abraham:

Isaac and Ishmael.

وَوُلِدَ لإِبْرَاهِيمَ إِسْحَاقُ وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ.

نسل هاجر

These were their descendants:

Nebaioth the firstborn of Ishmael, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,

وَهَذِهِ أَسْمَاءُ مَوَالِيدِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ: نَبَايُوتُ بِكْرُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، وَقِيدَارُ وَأَدَبْئِيلُ وَمِبْسَامُ،

Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema,

وَمِشْمَاعُ وَدُومَةُ وَمَسَّا وَحَدَدُ وَتَيْمَاءُ،

Jetur, Naphish and Kedemah. These were the sons of Ishmael.

وَيَطُورُ وَنَافِيشُ وَقِدْمَةُ. وَجَمِيعُ هَؤُلاءِ مِنْ ذُرِّيَّةِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ.

ذرية قطورة

The sons born to Keturah, Abraham’s concubine:

Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah.

The sons of Jokshan:

Sheba and Dedan.

أَمَّا قَطُورَةُ مَحْظِيَّةُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَقَدْ أَنْجَبَتْ لَهُ زِمْرَانَ وَيَقْشَانَ وَمَدَانَ وَمِدْيَانَ وَيِشْبَاقَ وَشُوحَاً. وَابْنَا يَقْشَانَ هُمَا: شَبَا وَدَدَانُ.

The sons of Midian:

Ephah, Epher, Hanok, Abida and Eldaah.

All these were descendants of Keturah.

وَأَبْنَاءُ مِدْيَانَ هُمْ: عَيفَةُ وَعِفْرُ وَحَنُوكُ وَأَبِيدَاعُ وَأَلْدَعَةُ. وَجَمِيعُ هَؤُلاءِ هُمْ ذُرِّيَّةُ قَطُورَةَ.

ذرية سارة

Abraham was the father of Isaac.

The sons of Isaac:

Esau and Israel.

وَأَنْجَبَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ إِسْحَاقَ، وَكَانَ لإِسْحَاقَ ابْنَانِ هُمَا عِيسُو وَإِسْرَائِيلُ.

The sons of Esau:

Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam and Korah.

أَمَّا أَبْنَاءُ عِيسُو فَهُمْ: أَلِيفَازُ وَرَعُوئِيلُ وَيَعُوشُ وَيَعْلامُ وَقُورَحُ.

The sons of Eliphaz:

Teman, Omar, Zepho,^[j] Gatam and Kenaz;

by Timna: Amalek.^[k]

وَأَبْنَاءُ أَلِيفَازَ: تَيْمَانُ وَأُومَارُ وَصَفِي وَجَعْثَامُ وَقِنَازُ وَتِمْنَاعُ وَعَمَالِيقُ.

The sons of Reuel:

Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah.

وَأَبْنَاءُ رَعُوئِيلَ: نَحَثُ وَزَارَحُ وَشَمَّةُ وَمَزَّةُ.

الأدوميون: أهل سعير

The sons of Seir:

Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer and Dishan.

وَمِنْ أَبْنَاءِ عِيسُو (سِعِيرَ) أَيْضاً لُوطَانُ وَشُوبَالُ وَصِبْعُونُ وَعَنَى وَدِيشُونُ وَإِيصَرُ وَدِيشَانُ.

The sons of Lotan:

Hori and Homam. Timna was Lotan’s sister.

وَابْنَا لُوطَانَ: حُورِي وَهُومَامُ. وَكَانَتْ لِلُوطَانَ أُخْتٌ تُدْعَى تِمْنَاعَ.

The sons of Shobal:

Alvan,^[l] Manahath, Ebal, Shepho and Onam.

The sons of Zibeon:

Aiah and Anah.

وَأَبْنَاءُ شُوبَالَ: عَلْيَانُ وَمَنَاحَةُ وَعِيبَالُ وَشَفِي وَأُونَامُ. وَابْنَا صِبْعُونَ: أَيَّةُ وَعَنَى.

The son of Anah:

Dishon.

The sons of Dishon:

Hemdan,^[m] Eshban, Ithran and Keran.

وَأَنْجَبَ عَنَى دِيشُونَ، وَوُلِدَ لِدِيشُونَ حَمْرَانُ وَأَشْبَانُ وَيِثْرَانُ وَكَرَانُ.

The sons of Ezer:

Bilhan, Zaavan and Akan.^[n]

The sons of Dishan^[o]:

Uz and Aran.

وَأَبْنَاءُ إِيصَرَ: بِلْهَانُ وَزَعْوَانُ وَيَعْقَانُ. وَابْنَا دِيشَانَ: عُوصُ وَأَرَانُ.

ملوك أدوم

These were the kings who reigned in Edom before any Israelite king reigned:

Bela son of Beor, whose city was named Dinhabah.

وَهَذَا سِجِلٌّ بِأَسْمَاءِ الْمُلُوكِ الَّذِينَ حَكَمُوا فِي أَدُومَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَتَوَلَّى عَلَى إِسْرَائِيلَ مَلِكٌ: بَالِعُ بْنُ بَعُورَ وَاسْمُ عَاصِمَتِهِ دِنْهَابَةُ.

When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah succeeded him as king.

وَمَاتَ بَالِعُ فَخَلَفَهُ يُوبَابُ بْنُ زَارَحَ مِنْ أَهْلِ بُصْرَةَ.

When Jobab died, Husham from the land of the Temanites succeeded him as king.

وَمَاتَ يُوبَابُ فَخَلَفَهُ حُوشَامُ مِنْ مِنْطَقَةِ تَيْمَانَ.

When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the country of Moab, succeeded him as king. His city was named Avith.

وَمَاتَ حُوشَامُ فَخَلَفَهُ هَدَدُ بْنُ بَدَدَ الَّذِي هَزَمَ الْمِدْيَانِيِّينَ فِي مَعْرَكَةٍ فِي بِلادِ مُوآبَ، وَاسْمُ عَاصِمَتِهِ عَوِيتُ.

When Hadad died, Samlah from Masrekah succeeded him as king.

وَمَاتَ هَدَدُ فَخَلَفَهُ سِمْلَةُ مِنْ مَدِينَةِ مَسْرِيقَةَ.

When Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth on the river^[p] succeeded him as king.

وَمَاتَ سِمْلَةُ فَخَلَفَهُ شَاوُلُ مِنْ أَهْلِ رَحُوبُوتِ النَّهْرِ.

When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan son of Akbor succeeded him as king.

وَمَاتَ شَاوُلُ فَخَلَفَهُ بَعْلُ حَانَانَ بْنُ عَكْبُورَ.

When Baal-Hanan died, Hadad succeeded him as king. His city was named Pau,^[q] and his wife’s name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-Zahab.

وَمَاتَ بَعْلُ حَانَانَ فَخَلَفَهُ هَدَدُ وَاسْمُ مَدِينَتِهِ فَاعِي، وَزَوْجَتُهُ تُدْعَى مَهِيطَبْئِيلَ بِنْتَ مَطْرِدَ بِنْتِ مَاءِ ذَهَبٍ.

Hadad also died.

ثُمَّ مَاتَ هَدَدُ. أَمَّا أُمَرَاءُ أَدُومَ: فَهُمْ: أَمِيرُ تِمْنَاعَ، أَمِيرُ عَلْوَةَ، أَمِيرُ يَتِيتَ،

Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,

أَمِيرُ أَهُولِيبَامَةَ، أَمِيرُ أَيْلَةَ، أَمِيرُ فِينُونَ،

Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,

أَمِيرُ قِنَازَ، أَمِيرُ تَيْمَانَ، أَمِيرُ مِبْصَارَ،

Magdiel and Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom.
