Verse 1

This is the genealogy^[a] of Jesus the Messiah^[b] the son of David, the son of Abraham:

これは、イエス・キリストの系図です。イエス・キリストはダビデ王の子孫、さらにさかのぼってアブラハムの子孫です。

Verse 2

Abraham was the father of Isaac,

Isaac the father of Jacob,

Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,

アブラハムはイサクの父、イサクはヤコブの父、ヤコブはユダとその兄弟たちの父です。

Verse 3

Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar,

Perez the father of Hezron,

Hezron the father of Ram,

ユダはパレスとザラの父〔彼らの母はタマル〕、パレスはエスロンの父、エスロンはアラムの父です。

Verse 4

Ram the father of Amminadab,

Amminadab the father of Nahshon,

Nahshon the father of Salmon,

アラムはアミナダブの父、アミナダブはナアソンの父、ナアソンはサルモンの父です。

Verse 5

Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab,

Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth,

Obed the father of Jesse,

サルモンはボアズの父〔母はラハブ〕、ボアズはオベデの父〔母はルツ〕、オベデはエッサイの父です。

Verse 6

and Jesse the father of King David.

David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife,

エッサイはダビデ王の父、ダビデはソロモンの父〔母はウリヤの妻でした〕です。

Verse 7

Solomon the father of Rehoboam,

Rehoboam the father of Abijah,

Abijah the father of Asa,

ソロモンはレハブアムの父、レハブアムはアビヤの父、アビヤはアサの父です。

Verse 8

Asa the father of Jehoshaphat,

Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram,

Jehoram the father of Uzziah,

アサはヨサパテの父、ヨサパテはヨラムの父、ヨラムはウジヤの父です。

Verse 9

Uzziah the father of Jotham,

Jotham the father of Ahaz,

Ahaz the father of Hezekiah,

ウジヤはヨタムの父、ヨタムはアハズの父、アハズはヒゼキヤの父です。

Verse 10

Hezekiah the father of Manasseh,

Manasseh the father of Amon,

Amon the father of Josiah,

ヒゼキヤはマナセの父、マナセはアモンの父、アモンはヨシヤの父です。

Verse 11

and Josiah the father of Jeconiah^[c] and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon.

ヨシヤはエコニヤとその兄弟たちの父です〔彼らは、イスラエルの人たちがバビロンに移住していた時に生まれました〕。

Verse 12

After the exile to Babylon:

Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel,

Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,

バビロンに移住してからは、エコニヤはサラテルの父、サラテルはゾロバベルの父です。

Verse 13

Zerubbabel the father of Abihud,

Abihud the father of Eliakim,

Eliakim the father of Azor,

ゾロバベルはアビウデの父、アビウデはエリヤキムの父、エリヤキムはアゾルの父です。

Verse 14

Azor the father of Zadok,

Zadok the father of Akim,

Akim the father of Elihud,

アゾルはサドクの父、サドクはアキムの父、アキムはエリウデの父です。

Verse 15

Elihud the father of Eleazar,

Eleazar the father of Matthan,

Matthan the father of Jacob,

エリウデはエレアザルの父、エレアザルはマタンの父、マタンはヤコブの父です。

Verse 16

and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah.

そして、ヤコブはヨセフの父です〔このヨセフが、キリストと呼ばれるイエスの母マリヤの夫となった人です〕。

Verse 17

Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.

Joseph Accepts Jesus as His Son

こういう次第で、アブラハムからダビデ王までが十四代、ダビデ王からバビロン移住までが十四代、バビロン移住からキリストまでが十四代となります。

約束されていた救い主

Verse 18

This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about^[d]: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.

イエス・キリストの誕生は次のとおりです。母マリヤはヨセフと婚約していました。ところが結婚する前に、聖霊によってみごもったのです。

Verse 19

Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet^[e] did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

婚約者のヨセフは、神の教えを堅く守る人でしたから、婚約を破棄しようと決心しました。しかし、人前にマリヤの恥をさらしたくなかったので、ひそかに縁を切ることにしました。

Verse 20

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

ヨセフがこのことで悩んでいた時、天使が夢に現れて言いました。「ダビデの子孫ヨセフよ。ためらわないで、マリヤと結婚しなさい。マリヤは聖霊によってみごもったのです。

Verse 21

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,^[f] because he will save his people from their sins.”

彼女は男の子を産みます。その子をイエス（「主は救い」の意）と名づけなさい。この方こそ、ご自分を信じる人々を罪から救ってくださるからです。

Verse 22

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:

このことはみな、神が預言者（神に託されたことばを語る人）を通して語られた、次のことばが実現するためです。

Verse 23

“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”^[g] (which means “God with us”).

『見よ。処女がみごもって、男の子を産む。その子はインマヌエル〔神が私たちと共におられる〕と呼ばれる。』（イザヤ7・14）」

Verse 24

When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.

目が覚めるとヨセフは、天使の命じたとおり、マリヤと結婚しました。

Verse 25

But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

しかし、その子が生まれるまでは、マリヤに触れませんでした。そして、生まれた子をイエスと名づけました。
