Verse 1

The word of the Lord came to me:

また、主から私に別のことばが示されました。

Verse 2

“Son of man, prophesy and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“‘Wail and say,
“Alas for that day!”

「人の子よ、預言せよ。」

神である主は語ります。
「大声で泣け。恐ろしい日が間近に迫っている。
それは神の日、暗雲の垂れ込めた日、
諸国の民の絶望の日だ。

Verse 3

For the day is near,
the day of the Lord is near—
a day of clouds,
a time of doom for the nations.

Verse 4

A sword will come against Egypt,
    and anguish will come upon Cush.^[a]
When the slain fall in Egypt,
    her wealth will be carried away
    and her foundations torn down.

剣がエジプトに振り下ろされ、
殺された者で地が覆われる。
その富は奪い去られ、土台はくつがえされる。
エチオピヤも強奪される。

Verse 5

Cush and Libya, Lydia and all Arabia, Kub and the people of the covenant land will fall by the sword along with Egypt.

エチオピヤ、プテ、ルデ、アラビヤ、リビヤ、そのほかエジプトと同盟を結んだ国々はみな、その戦争で滅ぼされる。」

Verse 6

“‘This is what the Lord says:

“‘The allies of Egypt will fall
and her proud strength will fail.
From Migdol to Aswan
they will fall by the sword within her,
declares the Sovereign Lord.

主がこう語るからです。

「エジプトの同盟国はみな滅び、
自慢していたエジプトの勢力も消え失せる。
エジプトの町はミグドルからセベネに至るまで、
残らず剣でなぎ倒される。

Verse 7

“‘They will be desolate
among desolate lands,
and their cities will lie
among ruined cities.

エジプトは荒廃し、周囲の国々も荒れはてる。
町々も廃墟となり、さらに廃墟と化した回りの町々が、
これを取り囲む。

Verse 8

Then they will know that I am the Lord,
when I set fire to Egypt
and all her helpers are crushed.

わたしがエジプトに火をつけ、
その同盟国をも滅ぼす時、
彼らは、わたしが主であることを知る。

Verse 9

“‘On that day messengers will go out from me in ships to frighten Cush out of her complacency. Anguish will take hold of them on the day of Egypt’s doom, for it is sure to come.

その時、わたしは早馬の使者を立ててエチオピヤ人をあわてさせる。エジプトの運命が定まる時、彼らは大きな恐怖に包まれる。このことは、すべて必ず起こる。」

Verse 10

“‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“‘I will put an end to the hordes of Egypt
by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.

神である主がこう語るからです。

「バビロンの王ネブカデネザルは、
大ぜいのエジプト人を殺す。

Verse 11

He and his army—the most ruthless of nations—
will be brought in to destroy the land.
They will draw their swords against Egypt
and fill the land with the slain.

国々に恐れられる王とその軍隊は、
エジプトを破壊するために遣わされる。
彼らはエジプトを攻め、地を死体で覆う。

Verse 12

I will dry up the waters of the Nile
and sell the land to an evil nation;
by the hand of foreigners
I will lay waste the land and everything in it.

I the Lord have spoken.

わたしはナイル川を干上がらせ、
国全体を悪人どもの手に渡す。
外国人の手を借りて、
エジプトとその中にあるすべてのものを滅ぼす。
神であるわたしが、こう語ったのだ。

Verse 13

“‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“‘I will destroy the idols
and put an end to the images in Memphis.
No longer will there be a prince in Egypt,
and I will spread fear throughout the land.

わたしは、エジプトの偶像やメンピスの神々の像を
打ち壊す。
エジプトには王がいなくなり、無政府状態になる。

Verse 14

I will lay waste Upper Egypt,
set fire to Zoan
and inflict punishment on Thebes.

ナイル川上流のパテロスの町々、
ツォアンやテーベは、わたしの手で廃墟と化す。

Verse 15

I will pour out my wrath on Pelusium,
the stronghold of Egypt,
and wipe out the hordes of Thebes.

またわたしは、エジプト最強のとりでペルシウムに
怒りを注ぎ、テーベの人々を絶ち滅ぼす。

Verse 16

I will set fire to Egypt;
Pelusium will writhe in agony.
Thebes will be taken by storm;
Memphis will be in constant distress.

わたしは必ずエジプトに火をつけ、
ペルシウムを痛みで苦しませ、テーベを引き裂き、
メンピスを連日、恐怖におののかせる。

Verse 17

The young men of Heliopolis and Bubastis
will fall by the sword,
and the cities themselves will go into captivity.

ヘリオポリスとブバスティスの若い男たちは
剣で殺され、女たちは奴隷として連れ去られる。

Verse 18

Dark will be the day at Tahpanhes
    when I break the yoke of Egypt;
    there her proud strength will come to an end.
She will be covered with clouds,
    and her villages will go into captivity.

わたしがエジプトの力を砕く時、
タフパヌヘスも暗黒の日となる。
暗雲が地を覆い、
娘たちはとりことして連れ去られる。

Verse 19

So I will inflict punishment on Egypt,
and they will know that I am the Lord.’”

Pharaoh’s Arms Are Broken

このようにして、エジプトをきびしく罰する時、
彼らはわたしが主であることを知る。」

Verse 20

In the eleventh year, in the first month on the seventh day, the word of the Lord came to me:

それから一年後、すなわちエホヤキン王が捕囚となって十一年目（エルサレム陥落の年）の第一の月の七日、次のようなことばがありました。

Verse 21

“Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt. It has not been bound up to be healed or put in a splint so that it may become strong enough to hold a sword.

「人の子よ。わたしはエジプト王の腕を打ち砕いた。その腕は手当てもされず、添え木も当てられなかったので、二度と剣を持つことができない。」

Verse 22

Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt. I will break both his arms, the good arm as well as the broken one, and make the sword fall from his hand.

神である主が言います。「わたしはエジプト王を攻め、骨折した腕とともに、もう一方の丈夫な腕も砕き、その手から剣をたたき落とす。

Verse 23

I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them through the countries.

そして、エジプト人を多くの国に追い散らす。

Verse 24

I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put my sword in his hand, but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, and he will groan before him like a mortally wounded man.

わたしはバビロンの王の腕を強くし、その手にわたしの剣を握らせて、エジプトの王の腕を砕く。彼はバビロンの王の前で、瀕死の重傷を負った者のようにうめく。

Verse 25

I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, but the arms of Pharaoh will fall limp. Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I put my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon and he brandishes it against Egypt.

わたしはバビロンの王の手を強くするが、エジプトの王の腕はわきに垂れ下がるだけで、使えないものとする。だから、バビロンの王がわたしの剣を握り、それをエジプトに振りかざす時、エジプトはわたしが主であることを知る。

Verse 26

I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them through the countries. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”

わたしはエジプト人を外国に散らす。その時、彼らはわたしが主であることを知る。」
