Numbers 32

The Reubenites and Gadites, who had very large herds and flocks, saw that the lands of Jazer and Gilead were suitable for livestock.

So they came to Moses and Eleazar the priest and to the leaders of the community, and said,

Они пришли к Мусе, священнослужителю Элеазару и вождям народа и сказали:

“Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo and Beon—

– Города Атарот, Дивон, Иазер, Нимра, Хешбон, Элеале, Севам, Нево и Беон –

the land the Lord subdued before the people of Israel—are suitable for livestock, and your servants have livestock.

земля, которую Вечный покорил народу Исраила, хороша для скота, а у твоих рабов есть скот.

If we have found favor in your eyes,” they said, “let this land be given to your servants as our possession. Do not make us cross the Jordan.”

Если мы нашли у тебя расположение, – сказали они, – то пусть эта земля и достанется во владение твоим рабам. Не переводи нас через Иордан.

Moses said to the Gadites and Reubenites, “Should your fellow Israelites go to war while you sit here?

Муса сказал гадитам и рувимитам:

– Ваши братья пойдут на войну, а вы будете сидеть здесь?

Why do you discourage the Israelites from crossing over into the land the Lord has given them?

Зачем вы отбиваете у исраильтян охоту перейти в землю, которую дал им Вечный?

This is what your fathers did when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea to look over the land.

Так сделали ваши отцы, когда я посылал их из Кадеш-Барни осмотреть эту землю.

After they went up to the Valley of Eshkol and viewed the land, they discouraged the Israelites from entering the land the Lord had given them.

Придя в долину Эшкол и осмотрев землю, они отбили у исраильтян охоту войти в землю, которую дал им Вечный.

The Lord’s anger was aroused that day and he swore this oath:

В тот день Вечный разгневался и поклялся:

‘Because they have not followed me wholeheartedly, not one of those who were twenty years old or more when they came up out of Egypt will see the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—

«Никто из покинувших Египет, от двадцати лет и старше, не увидит землю, которую Я клятвенно обещал Ибрахиму, Исхаку и Якубу, потому что они не повиновались Мне от всего сердца –

not one except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun, for they followed the Lord wholeheartedly.’

никто, кроме Халева, сына кенезеянина Иефоннии, и Иешуа, сына Нуна, которые от всего сердца повиновались Вечному».

The Lord’s anger burned against Israel and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the whole generation of those who had done evil in his sight was gone.

Вечный разгневался на Исраил и заставил народ сорок лет скитаться по пустыне, пока всё то поколение, которое сделало в Его глазах зло, не сгинуло.

“And here you are, a brood of sinners, standing in the place of your fathers and making the Lord even more angry with Israel.

А теперь вы, отродье грешников, встали на место ваших отцов и ещё сильнее разжигаете гнев Вечного на Исраил!

If you turn away from following him, he will again leave all this people in the wilderness, and you will be the cause of their destruction.”

Если вы откажетесь повиноваться Вечному, то Он снова оставит этот народ в пустыне, а вы будете виновниками их гибели.

Then they came up to him and said, “We would like to build pens here for our livestock and cities for our women and children.

Они подошли к Мусе и сказали:

– Мы построим здесь загоны для скота и города для наших жён и детей,

But we will arm ourselves for battle^[a] and go ahead of the Israelites until we have brought them to their place. Meanwhile our women and children will live in fortified cities, for protection from the inhabitants of the land.

а потом будем готовы вооружиться и идти перед исраильтянами, пока не приведём их в их надел. Тем временем наши жёны и дети будут жить в укреплённых городах, в безопасности от жителей этой земли.

We will not return to our homes until each of the Israelites has received their inheritance.

Мы не вернёмся домой, пока каждый исраильтянин не получит свой надел.

We will not receive any inheritance with them on the other side of the Jordan, because our inheritance has come to us on the east side of the Jordan.”

Мы не получим надел с ними на той стороне Иордана, потому что наш надел достался нам на этой, восточной стороне.

Then Moses said to them, “If you will do this—if you will arm yourselves before the Lord for battle

Муса сказал им:

– Если вы сделаете это, если вооружитесь, чтобы воевать для Вечного,

and if all of you who are armed cross over the Jordan before the Lord until he has driven his enemies out before him—

и каждый из вас, кто вооружён, переправится перед Вечным за Иордан, пока Он не прогонит своих врагов перед собой,

then when the land is subdued before the Lord, you may return and be free from your obligation to the Lord and to Israel. And this land will be your possession before the Lord.

то когда земля будет покорена Вечному, вы можете вернуться. Тогда вы будете свободными от обязательства Вечному и Исраилу, а эта земля будет вашим владением перед Вечным.

“But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the Lord; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.

Но если вы не сделаете этого, то вы согрешите против Вечного и знайте: вам не избежать наказания за грех.

Build cities for your women and children, and pens for your flocks, but do what you have promised.”

Стройте города для жён и детей и загоны для отар, но исполните то, что обещали.

The Gadites and Reubenites said to Moses, “We your servants will do as our lord commands.

Гадиты и рувимиты сказали Мусе:

– Мы – твои рабы. Мы сделаем, как велит наш господин.

Our children and wives, our flocks and herds will remain here in the cities of Gilead.

Наши дети и жёны, отары и весь наш скот останутся здесь, в городах Галаада.

But your servants, every man who is armed for battle, will cross over to fight before the Lord, just as our lord says.”

А твои рабы, все вооружённые для битвы, переправятся, чтобы воевать перед Вечным, как велит наш господин.

Then Moses gave orders about them to Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun and to the family heads of the Israelite tribes.

Тогда Муса отдал распоряжение о них священнослужителю Элеазару, Иешуа, сыну Нуна, и главам семейств исраильского народа.

He said to them, “If the Gadites and Reubenites, every man armed for battle, cross over the Jordan with you before the Lord, then when the land is subdued before you, you must give them the land of Gilead as their possession.

Он сказал им:

– Если гадиты и рувимиты, все вооружённые для битвы, переправятся с вами за Иордан перед Вечным, то, когда земля покорится вам, отдайте им во владение землю Галаада.

But if they do not cross over with you armed, they must accept their possession with you in Canaan.”

А если они не переправятся с вами вооружённые, то пусть они примут свой надел с вами в Ханаане.

The Gadites and Reubenites answered, “Your servants will do what the Lord has said.

Гадиты и рувимиты ответили:

– Мы – твои рабы. Мы сделаем так, как сказал Вечный.

We will cross over before the Lord into Canaan armed, but the property we inherit will be on this side of the Jordan.”

Мы с оружием переправимся перед Вечным в Ханаан, но пусть удел, который нам достался, останется за нами на этой стороне реки Иордана.

Then Moses gave to the Gadites, the Reubenites and the half-tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan—the whole land with its cities and the territory around them.

Тогда Муса отдал родам Гада, Рувима и половине рода Манассы, сына Юсуфа, царство Сигона, царя аморреев, и царство Ога, царя Башана, – всю землю с её городами и их окрестностями.

The Gadites built up Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,

Гадиты построили Дивон, Атарот, Ароер,

Atroth Shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,

Атарот-Шофан, Иазер, Иогбегу,

Beth Nimrah and Beth Haran as fortified cities, and built pens for their flocks.

Бет-Нимру и Бет-Аран, города-крепости и загоны для скота.

And the Reubenites rebuilt Heshbon, Elealeh and Kiriathaim,

А рувимиты отстроили города Хешбон, Элеале, Кириатаим,

as well as Nebo and Baal Meon (these names were changed) and Sibmah. They gave names to the cities they rebuilt.

Нево и Баал-Меон (их названия были изменены) и Сивму. Они дали отстроенным городам другие имена.

The descendants of Makir son of Manasseh went to Gilead, captured it and drove out the Amorites who were there.

Потомки Махира, сына Манассы, пришли в Галаад, захватили его и прогнали оттуда аморреев.

So Moses gave Gilead to the Makirites, the descendants of Manasseh, and they settled there.

Муса отдал Галаад махиритам, потомкам Манассы, и они поселились там.

Jair, a descendant of Manasseh, captured their settlements and called them Havvoth Jair.^[b]

Иаир, потомок Манассы, захватил здесь несколько поселений и назвал их Хаввот-Иаир («селения Иаира»).

And Nobah captured Kenath and its surrounding settlements and called it Nobah after himself.

А Нова захватил Кенат с окрестными поселениями и назвал его в свою честь Нова.
