Nehemiah 6

When word came to Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab and the rest of our enemies that I had rebuilt the wall and not a gap was left in it—though up to that time I had not set the doors in the gates—

Когда Санбаллату, Товии, арабу Гешему и прочим нашим врагам донесли, что я отстроил стену, и в ней не осталось ни одного незаделанного пролома (хотя, к тому времени я ещё не поставил двери ворот),

Sanballat and Geshem sent me this message: “Come, let us meet together in one of the villages^[a] on the plain of Ono.”

But they were scheming to harm me;

Санбаллат и Гешем послали сказать мне:

– Давай встретимся в одном из селений на равнине Оно.

Но они замышляли причинить мне зло,

so I sent messengers to them with this reply: “I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and go down to you?”

и я послал к ним вестников с таким ответом:

– Я занят важной работой и не могу прийти. Работа встанет, если я всё брошу и пойду к вам.

Four times they sent me the same message, and each time I gave them the same answer.

Четыре раза они присылали ко мне с этим приглашением, и четыре раза я давал им этот ответ.

Then, the fifth time, Sanballat sent his aide to me with the same message, and in his hand was an unsealed letter

Тогда в пятый раз Санбаллат отправил ко мне с этим же приглашением своего слугу. В руке у него было незапечатанное письмо,

in which was written:

и даже назначил пророков, чтобы возвещать о себе в Иерусалиме: „В Иудее есть царь!“ Этот слух дойдёт до царя. Итак, приходи, давай переговорим».

I sent him this reply: “Nothing like what you are saying is happening; you are just making it up out of your head.”

Я послал ему ответ: «Нет никакой правды в том, что ты говоришь. Всё это ты выдумываешь сам».

They were all trying to frighten us, thinking, “Their hands will get too weak for the work, and it will not be completed.”

But I prayed, “Now strengthen my hands.”

Все они старались запугать нас, думая: «Их руки очень ослабнут, чтобы делать эту работу, и она не будет завершена».

Но я молился:

– Укрепи мои руки!

One day I went to the house of Shemaiah son of Delaiah, the son of Mehetabel, who was shut in at his home. He said, “Let us meet in the house of God, inside the temple, and let us close the temple doors, because men are coming to kill you—by night they are coming to kill you.”

Однажды я пришёл в дом Шемаи, сына Делаи, сына Мехетавила, который заперся в своём доме.

Он сказал:

– Давай встретимся в доме Аллаха, внутри храма, и запрём храмовые двери, потому что тебя придут убить, и придут ночью!

But I said, “Should a man like me run away? Or should someone like me go into the temple to save his life? I will not go!”

Но я сказал:

– Разве такой человек, как я, может бежать? Может ли такой, как я, пойти в храм, чтобы спасти свою жизнь? Не пойду!

I realized that God had not sent him, but that he had prophesied against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.

Я понимал, что Аллах не посылал его, и он пророчествовал против меня, потому что его наняли Товия и Санбаллат.

He had been hired to intimidate me so that I would commit a sin by doing this, and then they would give me a bad name to discredit me.

Его наняли запугать меня, чтобы я согрешил, сделав так, а они бы лишили меня доброго имени и упрекали бы меня.

Remember Tobiah and Sanballat, my God, because of what they have done; remember also the prophet Noadiah and how she and the rest of the prophets have been trying to intimidate me.

Вспомни, Бог мой, Товию и Санбаллата по их делам; вспомни ещё и пророчицу Ноадию и прочих пророков, которые пытались запугать меня.

Завершение восстановления стены

So the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty-two days.

Opposition to the Completed Wall

Стена была завершена в двадцать пятый день месяца элула (2 октября 445 г. до н. э.), за пятьдесят два дня.

When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God.

Когда об этом услышали все наши враги, все окрестные народы испугались^[a] и потеряли свою самоуверенность, потому что поняли, что эта работа была сделана с помощью нашего Бога.

Also, in those days the nobles of Judah were sending many letters to Tobiah, and replies from Tobiah kept coming to them.

Ещё в те дни знать Иудеи посылала много писем Товии, а письма Товии приходили к ним.

For many in Judah were under oath to him, since he was son-in-law to Shekaniah son of Arah, and his son Jehohanan had married the daughter of Meshullam son of Berekiah.

Ведь многие в Иудее были связаны с ним клятвой, потому что он был зятем Шехании, сына Араха, а его сын Иоханан женился на дочери Мешуллама, сына Берехии.

Moreover, they kept reporting to me his good deeds and then telling him what I said. And Tobiah sent letters to intimidate me.

Они даже говорили при мне о его добрых делах, а после пересказывали ему то, что я сказал. А Товия присылал письма, чтобы меня запугать.
