Genesis 26

Now there was a famine in the land—besides the previous famine in Abraham’s time—and Isaac went to Abimelek king of the Philistines in Gerar.

В земле был голод, – не тот прежний голод, который был при Ибрахиме, – и Исхак пошёл к Ави-Малику, царю филистимлян, в Герар.

The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land where I tell you to live.

Вечный явился Исхаку и сказал:

– Не иди в Египет; живи на той земле, где Я скажу тебе жить.

Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and your descendants I will give all these lands and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham.

Поселись на этой земле на время, и Я буду с тобой и благословлю тебя, потому что Я исполню клятву, которую дал твоему отцу Ибрахиму, и дам все эти земли тебе и твоим потомкам.

I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and through your offspring^[a] all nations on earth will be blessed,^[b]

Я сделаю твоё потомство многочисленным, как звёзды на небе, и дам им все эти земли, и через твоё потомство^[a] получат благословение все народы на земле,

because Abraham obeyed me and did everything I required of him, keeping my commands, my decrees and my instructions.”

потому что Ибрахим слушался Меня и хранил Мои повеления, заповеди, уставы и законы.

So Isaac stayed in Gerar.

И Исхак поселился в Гераре.

When the men of that place asked him about his wife, he said, “She is my sister,” because he was afraid to say, “She is my wife.” He thought, “The men of this place might kill me on account of Rebekah, because she is beautiful.”

Когда жители того места спросили у него о его жене, он сказал: «Это моя сестра», потому что боялся сказать: «Это моя жена». Он думал: «Жители этого места могут убить меня из-за Рабиги, потому что она красива».

When Isaac had been there a long time, Abimelek king of the Philistines looked down from a window and saw Isaac caressing his wife Rebekah.

Однажды, когда Исхак уже долгое время прожил там, Ави-Малик, царь филистимлян, выглянул из окна и увидел, как Исхак ласкает свою жену Рабигу.

So Abimelek summoned Isaac and said, “She is really your wife! Why did you say, ‘She is my sister’?”

Isaac answered him, “Because I thought I might lose my life on account of her.”

Ави-Малик вызвал Исхака и сказал:

– Итак, она твоя жена! Почему же ты сказал: «Она моя сестра»?

Исхак ответил ему:

– Потому что я думал, что могу за неё поплатиться жизнью.

Then Abimelek said, “What is this you have done to us? One of the men might well have slept with your wife, and you would have brought guilt upon us.”

Тогда Ави-Малик сказал:

– Что же ты сделал с нами? Один из мужчин мог лечь с твоей женой, и ты навлёк бы на нас вину.

So Abimelek gave orders to all the people: “Anyone who harms this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.”

Ави-Малик приказал всему народу:

– Всякий, кто тронет этого человека или его жену, непременно будет предан смерти.

Спор с филистимлянами о колодцах

Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the Lord blessed him.

Исхак засеял поля в той земле и в тот же год собрал урожай стократно, и Вечный благословил его:

The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he became very wealthy.

он разбогател, и состояние его всё росло, пока он не стал очень богатым.

He had so many flocks and herds and servants that the Philistines envied him.

У него были такие большие стада мелкого и крупного скота, и столько слуг, что филистимляне завидовали ему.

So all the wells that his father’s servants had dug in the time of his father Abraham, the Philistines stopped up, filling them with earth.

Они засыпали землёй все колодцы, которые ещё во времена его отца выкопали слуги отца его Ибрахима.

Then Abimelek said to Isaac, “Move away from us; you have become too powerful for us.”

И Ави-Малик сказал Исхаку:

– Уходи от нас; ты стал слишком силён для нас.

So Isaac moved away from there and encamped in the Valley of Gerar, where he settled.

Исхак ушёл оттуда, поселился в Герарской долине и обосновался там.

Isaac reopened the wells that had been dug in the time of his father Abraham, which the Philistines had stopped up after Abraham died, and he gave them the same names his father had given them.

Исхак расчистил колодцы, которые были выкопаны во времена его отца Ибрахима, а затем засыпаны филистимлянами после его смерти, и дал им те же названия, какие прежде дал его отец.

Isaac’s servants dug in the valley and discovered a well of fresh water there.

Слуги Исхака стали копать в долине и открыли там колодец с родниковой водой,

But the herders of Gerar quarreled with those of Isaac and said, “The water is ours!” So he named the well Esek,^[c] because they disputed with him.

но герарские пастухи затеяли ссору с пастухами Исхака, говоря: «Это наша вода!» Исхак назвал колодец Есек («спор»), потому что они спорили с ним.

Then they dug another well, but they quarreled over that one also; so he named it Sitnah.^[d]

Потом они выкопали другой колодец, но и из-за него вышла ссора, поэтому он назвал его Ситна («вражда»).

He moved on from there and dug another well, and no one quarreled over it. He named it Rehoboth,^[e] saying, “Now the Lord has given us room and we will flourish in the land.”

Он ушёл оттуда и выкопал ещё один колодец, из-за которого ссоры не было, и он назвал его Реховот («просторные места»), говоря: «Теперь Вечный дал нам место, и мы умножимся в этой земле».

From there he went up to Beersheba.

Он направился оттуда в Беэр-Шеву.

That night the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bless you and will increase the number of your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham.”

В ту ночь Вечный явился ему и сказал:

– Я – Бог твоего отца Ибрахима. Не бойся, потому что Я с тобой; Я благословлю тебя и увеличу число твоих потомков ради Моего раба Ибрахима.

Isaac built an altar there and called on the name of the Lord. There he pitched his tent, and there his servants dug a well.

Исхак построил там жертвенник и призвал имя Вечного, и поставил там шатёр, а его слуги выкопали колодец.

Meanwhile, Abimelek had come to him from Gerar, with Ahuzzath his personal adviser and Phicol the commander of his forces.

Ави-Малик пришёл к нему из Герара вместе с Ахуззатом, своим личным советником, и Фихолом, начальником его войска.

Isaac asked them, “Why have you come to me, since you were hostile to me and sent me away?”

Исхак спросил их:

– Зачем вы пришли, ведь вы были враждебны ко мне и прогнали меня?

They answered, “We saw clearly that the Lord was with you; so we said, ‘There ought to be a sworn agreement between us’—between us and you. Let us make a treaty with you

Они ответили:

– Теперь нам ясно, что с тобой Вечный, и мы решили: у нас должно быть клятвенное соглашение, между нами и тобой. Давай заключим договор,

that you will do us no harm, just as we did not harm you but always treated you well and sent you away peacefully. And now you are blessed by the Lord.”

что ты не причинишь нам вреда, как и мы не тронули тебя, но всегда обходились с тобой хорошо и отпустили тебя с миром. А теперь ты благословлён Вечным.

Isaac then made a feast for them, and they ate and drank.

Исхак устроил для них пир, и они ели и пили.

Early the next morning the men swore an oath to each other. Then Isaac sent them on their way, and they went away peacefully.

На другой день рано утром они дали друг другу клятву; Исхак простился с ними, и они ушли от него с миром.

That day Isaac’s servants came and told him about the well they had dug. They said, “We’ve found water!”

В тот же день слуги Исхака пришли и рассказали ему о колодце, который они выкопали. Они сказали:

– Мы нашли воду!

He called it Shibah,^[f] and to this day the name of the town has been Beersheba.^[g]

Jacob Takes Esau’s Blessing

Он назвал его Шева («клятва»), и до сего дня имя этого города – Беэр-Шева («колодец клятвы», «колодец семи»).

Жёны Есава

When Esau was forty years old, he married Judith daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and also Basemath daughter of Elon the Hittite.

Когда Есаву было сорок лет, он женился на Иегудифи, дочери хетта Беэри, и на Басемафе, дочери хетта Елона;

They were a source of grief to Isaac and Rebekah.

и от них было много огорчения Исхаку и Рабиге.
