Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord:
“I will sing to the Lord,
for he is highly exalted.
Both horse and driver
he has hurled into the sea.

When Pharaoh’s horses, chariots and horsemen[e] went into the sea, the Lord brought the waters of the sea back over them, but the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground.
Когда лошади, колесницы и всадники фараона вошли в море, Вечный обрушил на них морские воды. А исраильтяне прошли через море, как по суше.

Then Miriam the prophet, Aaron’s sister, took a timbrel in her hand, and all the women followed her, with timbrels and dancing.
Пророчица Марьям, сестра Харуна, взяла бубен, и женщины с бубнами, танцуя, пошли за ней.

Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water.
Муса повёл исраильтян от Тростникового моря, и они вошли в пустыню Сур. Три дня они шли по пустыне, не находя воды.

When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah.[f])
Придя в Мару, они не могли пить воду: она была горькой. (Вот почему это место называется Мара («горечь»).)

So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?”
Народ стал роптать на Мусу, говоря: «Что нам пить?»

Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink.
There the Lord issued a ruling and instruction for them and put them to the test.
Муса взмолился к Вечному, и Вечный показал ему кусок дерева. Муса бросил его в воду, и вода стала пригодной для питья.
Там Вечный дал им установленный закон, чтобы испытать их.

He said, “If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.”
Он сказал:
– Если вы будете внимательно слушать Мой голос, голос Вечного, вашего Бога, и делать то, что Я хочу, если будете послушны Моим повелениям и сохраните Мои установления, то Я не нашлю на вас ни одного из тех недугов, которые наслал на египтян. Ведь Я – Вечный, Который исцеляет вас.

Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped there near the water.
Они пришли в Елим, где было двенадцать источников воды и семьдесят пальм. Там они расположились лагерем у воды.
