1 Samuel 17

Now the Philistines gathered their forces for war and assembled at Sokoh in Judah. They pitched camp at Ephes Dammim, between Sokoh and Azekah.

Saul and the Israelites assembled and camped in the Valley of Elah and drew up their battle line to meet the Philistines.

Шаул и исраильтяне собрались, расположились станом в долине Ела и выстроились против филистимлян.

The Philistines occupied one hill and the Israelites another, with the valley between them.

Филистимляне стояли на одном холме, а исраильтяне на другом, между ними была долина.

A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. His height was six cubits and a span.^[a]

Из филистимского стана вышел борец по имени Голиаф^[a], родом из Гата. Ростом он был чуть больше трёх метров^[b].

He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels^[b];

На голове у него был бронзовый шлем, а сам он был одет в бронзовую кольчугу весом в шестьдесят килограммов^[c],

on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back.

на ногах у него были бронзовые наколенники, а за спиной висел бронзовый дротик.

His spear shaft was like a weaver’s rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels.^[c] His shield bearer went ahead of him.

Древко его копья было большое, как ткацкий навой, а железный наконечник весил более семи килограммов^[d]. Перед ним шёл его щитоносец.

Goliath stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why do you come out and line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not the servants of Saul? Choose a man and have him come down to me.

Голиаф остановился и закричал выстроившимся исраильтянам:

– Зачем вы вышли и построились на битву? Разве я не филистимлянин, а вы – не рабы Шаула? Выберите человека, пусть он спустится ко мне.

If he is able to fight and kill me, we will become your subjects; but if I overcome him and kill him, you will become our subjects and serve us.”

Если он сможет сразиться со мной и убить меня, мы станем вашими рабами, но если я одержу победу и убью его, вы станете нашими рабами и будете нам служить.

Then the Philistine said, “This day I defy the armies of Israel! Give me a man and let us fight each other.”

Филистимлянин добавил:

– Сегодня я бросаю исраильтянам вызов! Выберите человека, чтобы нам сразиться друг с другом.

On hearing the Philistine’s words, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified.

Услышав слова филистимлянина, Шаул и все исраильтяне пришли в смятение и сильно испугались.

Now David was the son of an Ephrathite named Jesse, who was from Bethlehem in Judah. Jesse had eight sons, and in Saul’s time he was very old.

Давуд был сыном Есея, эфрафянина из Вифлеема, что в Иудее. У Есея было восемь сыновей, и во времена Шаула он достиг преклонных лет.

Jesse’s three oldest sons had followed Saul to the war: The firstborn was Eliab; the second, Abinadab; and the third, Shammah.

Три старших сына Есея пошли за Шаулом на войну: первенца звали Элиав, второго сына – Авинадав, а третьего – Шамма.

David was the youngest. The three oldest followed Saul,

Давуд был самым младшим. Три старших сына пошли за Шаулом,

but David went back and forth from Saul to tend his father’s sheep at Bethlehem.

а Давуд ходил к Шаулу и возвращался в Вифлеем, чтобы пасти овец своего отца.

For forty days the Philistine came forward every morning and evening and took his stand.

Сорок дней филистимлянин выходил каждое утро и каждый вечер и бросал свой вызов.

Now Jesse said to his son David, “Take this ephah^[d] of roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread for your brothers and hurry to their camp.

Есей сказал своему сыну Давуду:

– Возьми небольшой мешок^[e] поджаренного зерна и десять лепёшек для братьев и поспеши к ним в стан.

Take along these ten cheeses to the commander of their unit. See how your brothers are and bring back some assurance^[e] from them.

Возьми ещё десять голов сыра для тысяченачальника. Проведай братьев и принеси от них какую-нибудь весточку.

They are with Saul and all the men of Israel in the Valley of Elah, fighting against the Philistines.”

Они вместе с Шаулом и всеми его людьми в долине Ела воюют с филистимлянами.

Early in the morning David left the flock in the care of a shepherd, loaded up and set out, as Jesse had directed. He reached the camp as the army was going out to its battle positions, shouting the war cry.

Рано утром Давуд оставил отару другому пастуху, взял ношу и отправился в путь, как велел Есей. Он добрался до стана, когда войско с боевым кличем выходило на свои места.

Israel and the Philistines were drawing up their lines facing each other.

Исраил и филистимляне построились в ряды друг против друга.

David left his things with the keeper of supplies, ran to the battle lines and asked his brothers how they were.

Давуд оставил свою ношу обозному сторожу и побежал в ряды, поприветствовать братьев.

As he was talking with them, Goliath, the Philistine champion from Gath, stepped out from his lines and shouted his usual defiance, and David heard it.

Когда он говорил с ними, Голиаф, филистимский воин, выступил из рядов и прокричал свой обычный вызов на бой, и Давуд услышал его.

Whenever the Israelites saw the man, they all fled from him in great fear.

Увидев этого человека, исраильтяне убегали от него в великом страхе.

Now the Israelites had been saying, “Do you see how this man keeps coming out? He comes out to defy Israel. The king will give great wealth to the man who kills him. He will also give him his daughter in marriage and will exempt his family from taxes in Israel.”

Они говорили:

– Видите, как выходит этот человек? Он выходит, чтобы бросить Исраилу вызов. Царь одарит большим богатством того, кто убьёт его. Ещё он даст ему в жёны свою дочь и освободит от налогов семью его отца в Исраиле.

David asked the men standing near him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

Давуд спросил у людей, которые стояли рядом с ним:

– Что будет тому, кто убьёт этого филистимлянина и снимет позор с Исраила? Кто он такой, этот необрезанный филистимлянин, чтобы бросать вызов войскам живого Бога?

They repeated to him what they had been saying and told him, “This is what will be done for the man who kills him.”

Они повторили ему то, что говорили раньше, и сказали:

– Вот что будет тому, кто убьёт его.

When Eliab, David’s oldest brother, heard him speaking with the men, he burned with anger at him and asked, “Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle.”

Когда Элиав, старший брат Давуда, услышал, как тот говорит с людьми, он разгневался на него и спросил:

– Зачем ты пришёл сюда? И на кого ты оставил тех немногих овец в пустыне? Я знаю, как ты тщеславен и как порочно твоё сердце, ты пришёл только для того, чтобы посмотреть на битву.

“Now what have I done?” said David. “Can’t I even speak?”

He then turned away to someone else and brought up the same matter, and the men answered him as before.

Он отвернулся от него к кому-то другому и заговорил о том же самом, и народ отвечал ему, как и прежде.

What David said was overheard and reported to Saul, and Saul sent for him.

Когда слова Давуда передали Шаулу, он послал за ним.

David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.”

Давуд сказал Шаулу:

– Не падайте духом из-за этого филистимлянина, твой раб пойдёт и сразится с ним.

Saul replied, “You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a young man, and he has been a warrior from his youth.”

Шаул ответил:

– Ты не можешь выйти против этого филистимлянина и сразиться с ним, ты всего лишь мальчик, а он – воин с юных лет.

But David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock,

Но Давуд сказал Шаулу:

– Твой раб пас отцовских овец, и когда, бывало, лев или медведь приходил и уносил из отары овцу,

I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it.

я гнался за ним, разил его и спасал овцу из его пасти. Когда же он бросался на меня, я хватал его за шерсть, разил и убивал.

Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God.

Твой раб убивал и льва, и медведя. Этот необрезанный филистимлянин уподобится им, потому что он бросил вызов войскам живого Бога.

The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.”

Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.”

Вечный, Который избавлял меня от лап льва и медведя, избавит меня от руки и этого филистимлянина.

Шаул сказал Давуду:

– Иди, и да будет с тобой Вечный!

Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic. He put a coat of armor on him and a bronze helmet on his head.

David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, because he was not used to them.

“I cannot go in these,” he said to Saul, “because I am not used to them.” So he took them off.

Давуд опоясался мечом поверх доспехов и попробовал ходить в них, так как не привык к этому.

– Я не могу ходить в них, – сказал он Шаулу, – потому что я к ним не привык.

И он снял их.

Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.

Взяв в руку посох, он выбрал себе в ручье пять гладких камней, положил их в свою пастушью сумку и с пращой в руке приблизился к филистимлянину.

Meanwhile, the Philistine, with his shield bearer in front of him, kept coming closer to David.

Тем временем и филистимлянин со своим щитоносцем приближался к Давуду.

He looked David over and saw that he was little more than a boy, glowing with health and handsome, and he despised him.

Когда филистимлянин увидел Давуда, румяного и красивого, он с презрением посмотрел на него, потому что тот был всего лишь юноша.

He said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.

Он сказал Давуду:

– Разве я собака, что ты идёшь на меня с палкой?

И филистимлянин проклял Давуда своими богами.

“Come here,” he said, “and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and the wild animals!”

– Иди сюда, – сказал он, – и я отдам твою плоть небесным птицам и земным зверям!

David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

Давуд сказал филистимлянину:

– Ты идёшь против меня с мечом, копьём и дротиком, а я иду против тебя во имя Вечного, Повелителя Сил, Бога армий Исраила, которым ты бросил вызов.

This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.

Сегодня Вечный отдаст тебя мне, и я сражу тебя и отсеку тебе голову. Сегодня я отдам трупы филистимского войска небесным птицам и земным зверям, и весь мир узнает, что есть Бог в Исраиле!

All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

Все, кто собрался здесь, узнают, что Вечный спасает не мечом и не копьём, ведь эта битва – битва Вечного, и Он отдаст всех вас в наши руки.

As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him.

Когда филистимлянин начал приближаться, чтобы напасть на Давуда, Давуд быстро побежал к строю воинов ему навстречу.

Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground.

Опустив руку в сумку и вынув камень, он метнул его из пращи и поразил филистимлянина в лоб. Камень вонзился филистимлянину в лоб, и он упал лицом на землю.

So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him.

Так Давуд одержал победу над филистимлянином с помощью пращи и камня. Без меча в руке он сразил филистимлянина и убил его.

David ran and stood over him. He took hold of the Philistine’s sword and drew it from the sheath. After he killed him, he cut off his head with the sword.

When the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they turned and ran.

Давуд подбежал и встал над ним. Он взял меч филистимлянина и вынул его из ножен. Убив филистимлянина, он отсёк ему голову мечом.

Когда филистимляне увидели, что их герой мёртв, они развернулись и побежали.

Then the men of Israel and Judah surged forward with a shout and pursued the Philistines to the entrance of Gath^[f] and to the gates of Ekron. Their dead were strewn along the Shaaraim road to Gath and Ekron.

Воины Исраила и Иудеи рванулись вперёд и преследовали филистимлян до входа в Гат и до ворот Экрона. Тела убитых филистимлян были разбросаны вдоль Шаараимской дороги, которая вела в Гат и Экрон.

When the Israelites returned from chasing the Philistines, they plundered their camp.

Вернувшись из погони за филистимлянами, исраильтяне разграбили их стан.

David took the Philistine’s head and brought it to Jerusalem; he put the Philistine’s weapons in his own tent.

Давуд взял голову филистимлянина Голиафа и принёс её в Иерусалим, а оружие филистимлянина он положил у себя в шатре.

Представление Давуда Шаулу

As Saul watched David going out to meet the Philistine, he said to Abner, commander of the army, “Abner, whose son is that young man?”

Abner replied, “As surely as you live, Your Majesty, I don’t know.”

Когда Шаул смотрел на Давуда, идущего навстречу филистимлянину, он спросил Авнера, начальника войска:

– Авнер, чей сын этот юноша?

Авнер ответил:

– Верно, как и то, что ты жив, царь, – я не знаю.

The king said, “Find out whose son this young man is.”

Царь сказал:

– Узнай, чей он сын.

As soon as David returned from killing the Philistine, Abner took him and brought him before Saul, with David still holding the Philistine’s head.

Как только Давуд вернулся, убив филистимлянина, Авнер позвал его и привёл к Шаулу, а Давуд всё ещё держал в руках голову филистимлянина.

“Whose son are you, young man?” Saul asked him.

David said, “I am the son of your servant Jesse of Bethlehem.”

– Чей ты сын, юноша? – спросил его Шаул.

Давуд ответил:
