Verse 1

The word of the Lord that came to Zephaniah son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, during the reign of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah:

Judgment on the Whole Earth in the Day of the Lord

Слово Вечного^[a], которое было к Софонии, сыну Куши, сына Гедалии, сына Амарии, сына Езекии, во время правления иудейского царя Иосии, сына Амона^[b].

Суд над землёй

Verse 2

“I will sweep away everything
from the face of the earth,”
declares the Lord.

– Я погублю всё, что есть на земле, –
возвещает Вечный. –

Verse 3

“I will sweep away both man and beast;
    I will sweep away the birds in the sky
    and the fish in the sea—
    and the idols that cause the wicked to stumble.”^[a]

“When I destroy all mankind
on the face of the earth,”
declares the Lord,

Погублю и людей, и скот;
    погублю и птиц в небесах,
    и рыбу в морях.
Я повергну нечестивцев в прах
    и сотру их с лица земли, –
        возвещает Вечный.

Суд над Иудеей

Verse 4

“I will stretch out my hand against Judah
and against all who live in Jerusalem.
I will destroy every remnant of Baal worship in this place,
the very names of the idolatrous priests—

– Я воздену руку над Иудеей
и над жителями Иерусалима
и сотру там последний след Баала^[c],
имена его жрецов и неверных священнослужителей:

Verse 5

those who bow down on the roofs
to worship the starry host,
those who bow down and swear by the Lord
and who also swear by Molek,^[b]

и тех, кто поклоняется на крышах небесным светилам,
и тех, кто поклоняется и клянётся в верности как Вечному, так и Молоху^[d],

Verse 6

those who turn back from following the Lord
and neither seek the Lord nor inquire of him.”

и тех, кто отвернулся от Вечного
и не ищет и не просит Его благословений.

Verse 7

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord,
for the day of the Lord is near.
The Lord has prepared a sacrifice;
he has consecrated those he has invited.

Иудея, умолкни перед Владыкой Вечным,
так как близок день Вечного.
Он приготовил тебя в жертву
и уже созвал гостей.

Verse 8

“On the day of the Lord’s sacrifice
    I will punish the officials
    and the king’s sons
and all those clad
    in foreign clothes.

– В день жертвы Я накажу вождей, и сыновей царя,
и всех, кто наряжается в чужеземное платье^[e].

Verse 9

On that day I will punish
all who avoid stepping on the threshold,^[c]
who fill the temple of their gods
with violence and deceit.

Я накажу в тот день всех,
кто прыгает через порог^[f],
кто наполняет храм своего бога^[g]
жестокостью и обманом.

Verse 10

“On that day,”
    declares the Lord,
“a cry will go up from the Fish Gate,
    wailing from the New Quarter,
    and a loud crash from the hills.

В тот день, – возвещает Вечный, –
поднимется крик от Рыбных ворот,
плач из новой части города^[h]
и страшный грохот с холмов.

Verse 11

Wail, you who live in the market district^[d];
all your merchants will be wiped out,
all who trade with^[e] silver will be destroyed.

Плачьте, жители торгового района,
потому что погибнут купцы
и будут истреблены торгующие за серебро.

Verse 12

At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps
    and punish those who are complacent,
    who are like wine left on its dregs,
who think, ‘The Lord will do nothing,
    either good or bad.’

Тогда Я обойду Иерусалим со светильниками
в поисках самодовольных^[i] и накажу их –
тех, кто думает: «Вечный не сделает нам ничего:
ни плохого, ни хорошего».

Verse 13

Their wealth will be plundered,
    their houses demolished.
Though they build houses,
    they will not live in them;
though they plant vineyards,
    they will not drink the wine.”

Их богатства будут расхищены,
    и дома придут в запустение.
Они построят дома,
    а жить в них не будут;
посадят они виноградники,
    но вина пить не будут.

День Вечного

Verse 14

The great day of the Lord is near—
near and coming quickly.
The cry on the day of the Lord is bitter;
the Mighty Warrior shouts his battle cry.

Близок великий день Вечного,
близок и очень спешит.
Страшный шум поднимется в день Вечного,
даже храбрые воины будут кричать.

Verse 15

That day will be a day of wrath—
    a day of distress and anguish,
        a day of trouble and ruin,
    a day of darkness and gloom,
        a day of clouds and blackness—

Тот день будет днём гнева,
    днём скорби и муки,
днём гибели и разрушения,
    днём мглы и мрака,
    днём туч и тьмы,

Verse 16

a day of trumpet and battle cry
against the fortified cities
and against the corner towers.

днём трубного зова и клича к битве
против укреплённых городов и высоких башен.

Verse 17

“I will bring such distress on all people
    that they will grope about like those who are blind,
    because they have sinned against the Lord.
Their blood will be poured out like dust
    and their entrails like dung.

Вечный пошлёт на людей такую беду,
    что они станут бродить, как слепые,
    за то, что согрешили перед Ним.
Их кровь прольётся, как вода,
    и плоть их будет выброшена, как навоз.

Verse 18

Neither their silver nor their gold
will be able to save them
on the day of the Lord’s wrath.”

In the fire of his jealousy
the whole earth will be consumed,
for he will make a sudden end
of all who live on the earth.

Ни серебро, ни золото
    не смогут спасти их
    в день гнева Вечного.
Вся земля сгорит в пламени Его ревности;
    внезапный конец положит Он всем, кто живёт на земле.
