Zechariah 7

In the fourth year of King Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, the month of Kislev.

На четвёртом году правления царя Дария, в четвёртый день девятого месяца, месяца кислева (7 декабря 518 г. до н. э.), было слово Вечного к Закарии.

The people of Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regem-Melek, together with their men, to entreat the Lord

Народ Вефиля послал Сарецера и Регем-Малика вместе с их людьми искать у Вечного расположения

by asking the priests of the house of the Lord Almighty and the prophets, “Should I mourn and fast in the fifth month, as I have done for so many years?”

и спросить у священнослужителей дома Вечного, Повелителя Сил, и у пророков: «Скорбеть ли нам и поститься ли в пятом месяце^[a], как мы делаем это уже много лет?»

Then the word of the Lord Almighty came to me:

И было ко мне слово Вечного, Повелителя Сил:

“Ask all the people of the land and the priests, ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months for the past seventy years, was it really for me that you fasted?

– Спроси у всего народа страны и у священнослужителей: «Когда вы постились и скорбели последние семьдесят лет в пятом и седьмом месяце^[b], то для Меня ли вы постились?

And when you were eating and drinking, were you not just feasting for yourselves?

А когда вы ели и пили, то не для самих ли себя вы пировали?

Are these not the words the Lord proclaimed through the earlier prophets when Jerusalem and its surrounding towns were at rest and prosperous, and the Negev and the western foothills were settled?’”

Не те ли это слова, которыми Вечный взывал через прежних пророков, когда Иерусалим с окрестными городами был населён и покоился в мире и Негев с западными предгорьями был обитаем?»

And the word of the Lord came again to Zechariah:

И было к Закарии слово Вечного:

“This is what the Lord Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another.

– Так говорил Вечный, Повелитель Сил: «Судите справедливо, будьте милостивы и сострадательны друг к другу.

Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other.’

Не притесняйте вдову и сироту, чужеземца и бедняка. Не замышляйте зло друг против друга».

“But they refused to pay attention; stubbornly they turned their backs and covered their ears.

Но они отказались внимать; они упрямо повернулись спиной и заткнули уши, чтобы не слышать.

They made their hearts as hard as flint and would not listen to the law or to the words that the Lord Almighty had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. So the Lord Almighty was very angry.

Они сделали свои сердца твёрдыми, как кремень, чтобы не слушать Закона и слов, которые Вечный, Повелитель Сил, посылал Своим Духом через прежних пророков. И поэтому Вечный, Повелитель Сил, сильно разгневался.

“‘When I called, they did not listen; so when they called, I would not listen,’ says the Lord Almighty.

«Когда Я звал их, они не слушали; поэтому, когда они будут звать, Я тоже не стану слушать, – говорит Вечный, Повелитель Сил. –

‘I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations, where they were strangers. The land they left behind them was so desolate that no one traveled through it. This is how they made the pleasant land desolate.’”

Я ураганом развеял их среди народов, которых они не знали. Страна после них осталась в таком запустении, что через неё перестали ездить. Так они привели прекрасную землю в запустение».
