Lamentations 3

^[a]I am the man who has seen affliction
    by the rod of the Lord’s wrath.

Я человек, испытавший горе,
    потому что Вечный покарал меня
    жезлом Своего гнева.

He has driven me away and made me walk
    in darkness rather than light;

Он погнал меня и ввёл
    во тьму, а не в свет.

indeed, he has turned his hand against me
    again and again, all day long.

Несомненно, Он обратил Свою руку против меня
    и обращает её снова и снова в течение всего дня.

He has made my skin and my flesh grow old
    and has broken my bones.

Он состарил кожу мою и плоть мою,
    сокрушил кости мои.

He has besieged me and surrounded me
    with bitterness and hardship.

Он осадил меня и окружил
    горечью и тяготою.

He has made me dwell in darkness
    like those long dead.

Погрузил меня во мрак,
    как давно умерших.

He has walled me in so I cannot escape;
    he has weighed me down with chains.

Окружил меня стеной, чтобы я не мог выйти,
    заковал меня в тяжёлые цепи.

Even when I call out or cry for help,
    he shuts out my prayer.

Даже когда я взываю и прошу о помощи,
    Он не обращает внимания на мою молитву.

He has barred my way with blocks of stone;
    he has made my paths crooked.

Камнями Он преградил мне путь,
    искривил стези мои.

Like a bear lying in wait,
    like a lion in hiding,

Он подобен медведю в засаде
    или затаившемуся льву.

he dragged me from the path and mangled me
    and left me without help.

Сбил меня с пути и растерзал меня,
    оставив без помощи.

He drew his bow
    and made me the target for his arrows.

Натянул Он Свой лук
    и сделал меня мишенью для стрел Своих.

He pierced my heart
    with arrows from his quiver.

Он пронзил моё сердце
    стрелами из Своего колчана.

I became the laughingstock of all my people;
    they mock me in song all day long.

Стал я посмешищем для всего моего народа,
    весь день в песнях насмехаются надо мной.

He has filled me with bitter herbs
    and given me gall to drink.

Он напоил меня горькими травами
    и насытил горечью.

He has broken my teeth with gravel;
    he has trampled me in the dust.

Камнями сокрушил зубы мои,
    втоптал меня в пыль.

I have been deprived of peace;
    I have forgotten what prosperity is.

Лишена душа моя мира,
    я позабыл о благоденствии.

So I say, “My splendor is gone
    and all that I had hoped from the Lord.”

И сказал я: «Исчезло величие моё
    и надежда моя на Вечного».

I remember my affliction and my wandering,
    the bitterness and the gall.

Помню лишь о страдании и скитании,
    во мне лишь горечь и желчь.

I well remember them,
    and my soul is downcast within me.

Сильна память об этом,
    поникла душа моя.

Yet this I call to mind
    and therefore I have hope:

Но вот, что говорю я себе,
    вот, что даёт мне надежду:

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
    for his compassions never fail.

«Милость Вечного никогда не иссякает,^[a]
    сострадание Его не истощается.

They are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.

Они обновляются^[b] каждое утро;
    велика верность Твоя!»

I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion;
    therefore I will wait for him.”

Я сказал себе: «Вечный – часть моя,
    потому я буду надеяться на Него».

The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him,
    to the one who seeks him;

Благ Вечный к тем, кто уповает на Него,
    к тем, кто ищет Его.

it is good to wait quietly
    for the salvation of the Lord.

Благо тому, кто молча ожидает
    спасения от Вечного.

It is good for a man to bear the yoke
    while he is young.

Благо человеку, который несёт ярмо
    в юности своей.

Let him sit alone in silence,
    for the Lord has laid it on him.

Пусть сидит в уединении и молчании,
    потому что бремя это возложил на него Вечный.

Let him bury his face in the dust—
    there may yet be hope.

Пусть склонится в смирении,
    может быть, есть ещё надежда.

Let him offer his cheek to one who would strike him,
    and let him be filled with disgrace.

Пусть подставляет щёку свою бьющему
    и насыщается бесчестием,

For no one is cast off
    by the Lord forever.

ведь Владыка не отвергает людей навеки!

Though he brings grief, he will show compassion,
    so great is his unfailing love.

    И хотя Он посылает страдания,
Он же потом и помилует
    по Своей великой любви.

For he does not willingly bring affliction
    or grief to anyone.

Ведь не по изволению сердца Своего
    Он приносит бедствие и горе людям.

To crush underfoot
    all prisoners in the land,

А когда топчут ногами
    всех узников земли,

to deny people their rights
    before the Most High,

лишают человека правосудия
    перед лицом Высочайшего,

to deprive them of justice—
    would not the Lord see such things?

притесняют человека на суде –
    разве Владыка всего этого не видит?

Who can speak and have it happen
    if the Lord has not decreed it?

Кто может сказать – и исполнится,
    если Владыка не повелит этому случиться?

Is it not from the mouth of the Most High
    that both calamities and good things come?

Не по слову ли Высочайшего
    приходят бедствие и благо?

Why should the living complain
    when punished for their sins?

Для чего жаловаться человеку,
    ведь он остался жив, хоть и был наказан за грехи свои?

Let us examine our ways and test them,
    and let us return to the Lord.

Проверим же пути наши и испытаем их,
    и вернёмся к Вечному.

Let us lift up our hearts and our hands
    to God in heaven, and say:

Вознесём сердца наши и руки
    к Всевышнему на небесах и скажем:

“We have sinned and rebelled
    and you have not forgiven.

«Мы согрешили и восстали против тебя,
    и Ты не простил нас.

“You have covered yourself with anger and pursued us;
    you have slain without pity.

Ты покрыл Себя гневом и преследовал нас,
    губя без пощады.

You have covered yourself with a cloud
    so that no prayer can get through.

Ты скрыл Себя облаком,
    чтобы не доходила наша молитва.

You have made us scum and refuse
    among the nations.

Ты сделал нас грязью и сором
    среди народов.

“All our enemies have opened their mouths
    wide against us.

Все враги наши широко разинули
    пасть свою на нас.

We have suffered terror and pitfalls,
    ruin and destruction.”

Мы страдали от ужаса и западни,
    опустошения и разорения».

Streams of tears flow from my eyes
    because my people are destroyed.

Ручьями слёзы текут из глаз моих,
    потому что народ мой уничтожен.

My eyes will flow unceasingly,
    without relief,

Слёзы мои будут течь,
    не останавливаясь,
    без перерыва,

until the Lord looks down
    from heaven and sees.

пока Вечный не посмотрит с небес
    и не увидит.

What I see brings grief to my soul
    because of all the women of my city.

Я смотрю, и горечь наполняет душу мою
    за всех дочерей моего города.

Those who were my enemies without cause
    hunted me like a bird.

Без причины враги мои пытались
    поймать меня, словно птицу,

They tried to end my life in a pit
    and threw stones at me;

бросили меня в яму
    и камнями закидали меня.

the waters closed over my head,
    and I thought I was about to perish.

Воды сомкнулись над моей головой,
    и я подумал: «Погиб я».

I called on your name, Lord,
    from the depths of the pit.

Я воззвал к имени Твоему, о Вечный,
    из ямы глубокой.

You heard my plea: “Do not close your ears
    to my cry for relief.”

Ты услышал голос мой;
    не закрывай же ухо Своё
    от моей мольбы и плача моего.

You came near when I called you,
    and you said, “Do not fear.”

Ты приближался, когда я взывал к Тебе,
    и говорил: «Не бойся».^[c]

You, Lord, took up my case;
    you redeemed my life.

О Владыка, Ты защищал дело души моей,
    искуплял жизнь мою.

Lord, you have seen the wrong done to me.
    Uphold my cause!

Ты видишь, Вечный, угнетение моё,
    рассуди же тяжбу мою.

You have seen the depth of their vengeance,
    all their plots against me.

Ты видишь всю их мстительность,
    все их заговоры против меня.

Lord, you have heard their insults,
    all their plots against me—

О Вечный, Ты слышишь их оскорбления,
    все их заговоры против меня,

what my enemies whisper and mutter
    against me all day long.

как враги перешёптываются
    обо мне весь день.

Look at them! Sitting or standing,
    they mock me in their songs.

Взгляни на них! Сидят ли они, стоят ли,
    они насмехаются надо мною в своих песнях.

Pay them back what they deserve, Lord,
    for what their hands have done.

Воздай им, Вечный,
    по делам их рук.

Put a veil over their hearts,
    and may your curse be on them!

Мраком покрой их сердца,
    и пусть проклятие Твоё будет на них.

Pursue them in anger and destroy them
    from under the heavens of the Lord.
