Judges 18

In those days Israel had no king.

And in those days the tribe of the Danites was seeking a place of their own where they might settle, because they had not yet come into an inheritance among the tribes of Israel.

В те дни у Исраила не было царя.

Род данитян искал себе землю, чтобы поселиться там, потому что до этого времени земля между родами Исраила ещё не была ему отведена.

So the Danites sent five of their leading men from Zorah and Eshtaol to spy out the land and explore it. These men represented all the Danites. They told them, “Go, explore the land.”

So they entered the hill country of Ephraim and came to the house of Micah, where they spent the night.

И данитяне послали пятерых храбрецов из Цоры и Эштаола, чтобы разведать землю и исследовать её. Эти люди представляли все их кланы. Им сказали:

– Идите, исследуйте землю.

Когда они пришли в нагорья Ефраима, к дому Михи, они заночевали там,

When they were near Micah’s house, they recognized the voice of the young Levite; so they turned in there and asked him, “Who brought you here? What are you doing in this place? Why are you here?”

и, будучи поблизости, узнали голос молодого левита. Тогда они свернули туда и спросили его:

– Кто привёл тебя сюда? Что ты здесь делаешь? Почему ты здесь?

He told them what Micah had done for him, and said, “He has hired me and I am his priest.”

Он рассказал им о том, что сделал для него Миха, и сказал:

– Он нанял меня, и я его священнослужитель.

Then they said to him, “Please inquire of God to learn whether our journey will be successful.”

Тогда они сказали ему:

– Пожалуйста, спроси у Всевышнего, чтобы нам знать, будет ли наше путешествие успешным.

The priest answered them, “Go in peace. Your journey has the Lord’s approval.”

Священнослужитель ответил им:

– Идите с миром. Вечный позаботится о вас во время вашего путешествия.

So the five men left and came to Laish, where they saw that the people were living in safety, like the Sidonians, at peace and secure. And since their land lacked nothing, they were prosperous.^[a] Also, they lived a long way from the Sidonians and had no relationship with anyone else.^[b]

Эти пятеро ушли и пришли в Лаиш. Там они увидели, что народ живёт спокойно, по обычаю сидонян, тихо и беспечно, не нуждаясь ни в чём на земле и обладая богатством. Они жили далеко от сидонян и ни с кем^[a] не были в союзе.

When they returned to Zorah and Eshtaol, their fellow Danites asked them, “How did you find things?”

Когда они вернулись в Цору и Эштаол, их сородичи стали спрашивать:

– Ну что?

They answered, “Come on, let’s attack them! We have seen the land, and it is very good. Aren’t you going to do something? Don’t hesitate to go there and take it over.

Они ответили:

– Пойдёмте, нападём на них! Мы увидели, что эта земля очень хороша. Вы что же, не собираетесь ничего делать? Не медлите взять себе эту землю!

When you get there, you will find an unsuspecting people and a spacious land that God has put into your hands, a land that lacks nothing whatever.”

Придя туда, вы найдёте беспечный народ и обширную землю, которую Вечный даёт вам в руки, землю, где нет недостатка ни в чём.

Then six hundred men of the Danites, armed for battle, set out from Zorah and Eshtaol.

И шестьсот человек из рода данитян, вооружившись для битвы, отправились в путь из Цоры и Эштаола.

On their way they set up camp near Kiriath Jearim in Judah. This is why the place west of Kiriath Jearim is called Mahaneh Dan^[c] to this day.

По дороге они поставили стан рядом с Кириат-Иеаримом в Иудее. Вот почему место к западу от Кириат-Иеарима и по сегодняшний день называется Махане-Дан («стан Дана»).

From there they went on to the hill country of Ephraim and came to Micah’s house.

Оттуда они двинулись в нагорья Ефраима и пришли к дому Михи.

Then the five men who had spied out the land of Laish said to their fellow Danites, “Do you know that one of these houses has an ephod, some household gods and an image overlaid with silver? Now you know what to do.”

Те пятеро, которые разведывали землю Лаиша, сказали своим сородичам:

– Знаете ли вы, что в одном из этих домов есть ефод, домашние боги, истукан и литой идол? Подумайте, что вам сделать.

So they turned in there and went to the house of the young Levite at Micah’s place and greeted him.

Они свернули туда, вошли в дом молодого левита, в дом Михи, и приветствовали его.

The six hundred Danites, armed for battle, stood at the entrance of the gate.

А шестьсот данитян, вооружённых для битвы, стояли у входа в ворота.

The five men who had spied out the land went inside and took the idol, the ephod and the household gods while the priest and the six hundred armed men stood at the entrance of the gate.

Пять человек, которые разведывали землю, прошли внутрь, взяли истукан, и ефод, и домашних богов, и литого идола, пока священнослужитель и шестьсот вооружённых воинов стояли у входа в ворота.

When the five men went into Micah’s house and took the idol, the ephod and the household gods, the priest said to them, “What are you doing?”

Когда эти люди вошли в дом Михи и взяли истукан, ефод, домашних богов и литого идола, священнослужитель сказал им:

– Что вы делаете?

They answered him, “Be quiet! Don’t say a word. Come with us, and be our father and priest. Isn’t it better that you serve a tribe and clan in Israel as priest rather than just one man’s household?”

Они ответили ему:

– Молчи! Ни слова больше. Иди с нами и будь у нас отцом и священнослужителем. Разве не лучше тебе быть священнослужителем у рода и клана в Исраиле, чем у семьи одного лишь человека?

The priest was very pleased. He took the ephod, the household gods and the idol and went along with the people.

Священнослужитель обрадовался. Он взял ефод, домашних богов и истукан и пошёл с народом.

Putting their little children, their livestock and their possessions in front of them, they turned away and left.

Отправив своих маленьких детей, скот и пожитки впереди себя, они снова тронулись в путь.

When they had gone some distance from Micah’s house, the men who lived near Micah were called together and overtook the Danites.

Когда они отошли от дома Михи, тот собрал соседей и погнался за данитянами.

As they shouted after them, the Danites turned and said to Micah, “What’s the matter with you that you called out your men to fight?”

Они кричали вслед данитянам, и те, повернувшись, сказали Михе:

– Чего ты хочешь? Зачем ты собрал такую толпу?

He replied, “You took the gods I made, and my priest, and went away. What else do I have? How can you ask, ‘What’s the matter with you?’”

Он ответил:

– Вы взяли моих богов, которых я сделал, и моего священнослужителя и ушли. А что осталось у меня? Как же вы спрашиваете: «Что тебе?»

The Danites answered, “Don’t argue with us, or some of the men may get angry and attack you, and you and your family will lose your lives.”

Данитяне ответили:

– Лучше не спорь с нами, а не то наши разъярённые воины нападут на вас, и ты погубишь и себя, и свою семью.

So the Danites went their way, and Micah, seeing that they were too strong for him, turned around and went back home.

И данитяне пошли своим путём, а Миха, видя, что они сильнее его, повернул домой.

Then they took what Micah had made, and his priest, and went on to Laish, against a people at peace and secure. They attacked them with the sword and burned down their city.

Данитяне, взяв то, что сделал Миха, а также его священнослужителя, пришли к Лаишу, к мирному и беспечному народу. Они предали их мечу и сожгли их город.

There was no one to rescue them because they lived a long way from Sidon and had no relationship with anyone else. The city was in a valley near Beth Rehob.

The Danites rebuilt the city and settled there.

Некому было избавить их, потому что они жили далеко от Сидона и ни с кем не были в союзе. Этот город находился в долине рядом с Бет-Реховом.

Данитяне отстроили город и поселились в нём.

They named it Dan after their ancestor Dan, who was born to Israel—though the city used to be called Laish.

Они назвали его Дан – в честь своего предка Дана, который родился у Якуба^[b], хотя прежде город назывался Лаиш.

There the Danites set up for themselves the idol, and Jonathan son of Gershom, the son of Moses,^[d] and his sons were priests for the tribe of Dan until the time of the captivity of the land.

Там данитяне поставили себе истукан, а Ионафан, сын Гершома, внук Мусы^[c], и его сыновья были священнослужителями рода Дана до самого плена.

They continued to use the idol Micah had made, all the time the house of God was in Shiloh.

Они хранили у себя истукан, сделанный Михой, пока дом Всевышнего находился в Шило.
