Judges 10

After the time of Abimelek, a man of Issachar named Tola son of Puah, the son of Dodo, rose to save Israel. He lived in Shamir, in the hill country of Ephraim.

После Ави-Малика спасать Исраил поднялся Тола, сын Пуа, внук Додо, из рода Иссахара. Он жил в Шамире, в нагорьях Ефраима.

He led^[a] Israel twenty-three years; then he died, and was buried in Shamir.

Jair

Он был судьёй в Исраиле двадцать три года. После этого он умер и был похоронен в Шамире.

He was followed by Jair of Gilead, who led Israel twenty-two years.

После него поднялся Иаир из Галаада, который был судьёй в Исраиле двадцать два года.

He had thirty sons, who rode thirty donkeys. They controlled thirty towns in Gilead, which to this day are called Havvoth Jair.^[b]

У него было тридцать сыновей, которые ездили на тридцати ослах. У них было тридцать городов в Галааде, которые и по сегодняшний день называются Хаввот-Иаир («селения Иаира»).

When Jair died, he was buried in Kamon.

Jephthah

Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord. They served the Baals and the Ashtoreths, and the gods of Aram, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites and the gods of the Philistines. And because the Israelites forsook the Lord and no longer served him,

Исраильтяне вновь стали делать зло в глазах Вечного. Они служили статуям Баала и Астарты, богам Сирии, богам Сидона, богам Моава, богам аммонитян и богам филистимлян, а Вечного оставили и не служили Ему.

he became angry with them. He sold them into the hands of the Philistines and the Ammonites,

Вечный разгневался на Исраил и отдал их в руки филистимлян и аммонитян,

who that year shattered and crushed them. For eighteen years they oppressed all the Israelites on the east side of the Jordan in Gilead, the land of the Amorites.

которые в тот год притесняли и угнетали исраильтян. Восемнадцать лет они угнетали исраильтян на восточной стороне Иордана в Галааде, в земле аморреев.

The Ammonites also crossed the Jordan to fight against Judah, Benjamin and Ephraim; Israel was in great distress.

Аммонитяне тоже переправились через Иордан, чтобы воевать с Иудой, Вениамином и Ефраимом. Исраильтяне были в большой беде.

Then the Israelites cried out to the Lord, “We have sinned against you, forsaking our God and serving the Baals.”

Они воззвали к Вечному:

– Мы согрешили против Тебя, нашего Бога, оставив Тебя и служа статуям Баала.

The Lord replied, “When the Egyptians, the Amorites, the Ammonites, the Philistines,

Вечный ответил им:

– Когда египтяне, аморреи, аммонитяне, филистимляне,

the Sidonians, the Amalekites and the Maonites^[c] oppressed you and you cried to me for help, did I not save you from their hands?

сидоняне, амаликитяне и маонитяне^[a] угнетали вас, и вы взывали ко Мне о помощи, то разве Я не спасал вас от их рук?

But you have forsaken me and served other gods, so I will no longer save you.

Но вы оставили Меня и служили другим богам, и Я не стану больше спасать вас.

Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them save you when you are in trouble!”

Идите и взывайте к другим богам, которых вы избрали. Пусть они спасают вас в беде!

But the Israelites said to the Lord, “We have sinned. Do with us whatever you think best, but please rescue us now.”

Но исраильтяне сказали Вечному:

– Мы согрешили. Сделай с нами всё, что Тебе угодно, но сегодня спаси нас!

Then they got rid of the foreign gods among them and served the Lord. And he could bear Israel’s misery no longer.

Они избавились от чужеземных богов и стали служить Вечному. И Он не мог больше видеть, как Исраил страдает.

When the Ammonites were called to arms and camped in Gilead, the Israelites assembled and camped at Mizpah.

Когда аммонитяне приготовились к войне и поставили стан в Галааде, исраильтяне собрались и поставили стан в Мицпе.

The leaders of the people of Gilead said to each other, “Whoever will take the lead in attacking the Ammonites will be head over all who live in Gilead.”

А вожди жителей Галаада говорили друг другу: «Всякий, кто начнёт войну с аммонитянами, будет главой всех жителей Галаада».
