Genesis 23

Sarah lived to be a hundred and twenty-seven years old.

Сарра прожила сто двадцать семь лет – это годы жизни Сарры.

She died at Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham went to mourn for Sarah and to weep over her.

Она умерла в Кириат-Арбе (то есть Хевроне) в земле Ханаана, и Ибрахим пришёл горевать по Сарре и оплакивать её.

Then Abraham rose from beside his dead wife and spoke to the Hittites.^[a] He said,

“I am a foreigner and stranger among you. Sell me some property for a burial site here so I can bury my dead.”

– Я среди вас пришелец и странник. Продайте мне в собственность место для погребения, чтобы я мог похоронить умершую.

The Hittites replied to Abraham,

Хетты ответили Ибрахиму:

“Sir, listen to us. You are a mighty prince among us. Bury your dead in the choicest of our tombs. None of us will refuse you his tomb for burying your dead.”

– Господин, послушай, ты – могучий князь среди нас. Похорони умершую в лучшей из наших могил. Никто из нас не откажет тебе в погребальном месте, чтобы похоронить умершую.

Then Abraham rose and bowed down before the people of the land, the Hittites.

Тогда Ибрахим встал и поклонился хеттам, жителям той земли.

He said to them, “If you are willing to let me bury my dead, then listen to me and intercede with Ephron son of Zohar on my behalf

Он сказал им:

– Если вы не против, чтобы я похоронил умершую, то послушайте меня и попросите за меня Эфрона, сына Цохара,

so he will sell me the cave of Machpelah, which belongs to him and is at the end of his field. Ask him to sell it to me for the full price as a burial site among you.”

чтобы он продал мне пещеру Махпелу, которая принадлежит ему и находится на краю его поля. Пусть продаст её мне за полную цену как место для погребения среди вас.

Ephron the Hittite was sitting among his people and he replied to Abraham in the hearing of all the Hittites who had come to the gate of his city.

Хетт Эфрон сидел среди своего народа и ответил Ибрахиму при всех хеттах, которые пришли к воротам его города^[b].

“No, my lord,” he said. “Listen to me; I give^[b] you the field, and I give^[c] you the cave that is in it. I give^[d] it to you in the presence of my people. Bury your dead.”

Он сказал:

– Нет, господин мой, послушай меня. Я отдаю тебе поле и отдаю тебе пещеру, которая на нём. Я отдаю тебе это в присутствии моего народа. Хорони свою умершую.

Again Abraham bowed down before the people of the land

Ибрахим вновь поклонился людям той земли

and he said to Ephron in their hearing, “Listen to me, if you will. I will pay the price of the field. Accept it from me so I can bury my dead there.”

и сказал Эфрону при них:

– Выслушай же и ты меня. Я уплачу цену поля. Прими её от меня, чтобы я мог похоронить там умершую.

Ephron answered Abraham,

Эфрон ответил Ибрахиму:

“Listen to me, my lord; the land is worth four hundred shekels^[e] of silver, but what is that between you and me? Bury your dead.”

– Послушай меня, господин мой, земля ценой в пять килограммов^[c] серебра – разве это много для тебя или для меня? Хорони свою умершую.

Abraham agreed to Ephron’s terms and weighed out for him the price he had named in the hearing of the Hittites: four hundred shekels of silver, according to the weight current among the merchants.

Ибрахим согласился с условиями Эфрона и отвесил ему цену поля, названную при хеттах: пять килограммов серебра, по мере, принятой у купцов.

So Ephron’s field in Machpelah near Mamre—both the field and the cave in it, and all the trees within the borders of the field—was deeded

Так поле Эфрона в Махпеле, рядом с Мамре – и поле, и пещера на нём, и все деревья в границах поля – перешли

to Abraham as his property in the presence of all the Hittites who had come to the gate of the city.

в собственность Ибрахиму в присутствии всех хеттов, которые пришли к городским воротам.

Afterward Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave in the field of Machpelah near Mamre (which is at Hebron) in the land of Canaan.

После этого Ибрахим похоронил свою жену Сарру в пещере на поле Махпела, рядом с Мамре, (что в Хевроне) в земле Ханаана.

So the field and the cave in it were deeded to Abraham by the Hittites as a burial site.

И поле, и пещера на нём перешли от хеттов в собственность Ибрахиму как место для погребения.
