Acts 28

Once safely on shore, we found out that the island was called Malta.

The islanders showed us unusual kindness. They built a fire and welcomed us all because it was raining and cold.

Жители острова оказали нам необычайное гостеприимство. Они разожгли костёр и пригласили нас к себе, так как было холодно и шёл дождь.

Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand.

Когда Паул, собрав охапку хвороста, стал бросать его в костёр, ему в руку вцепилась ядовитая змея, которая, спасаясь от жара, выползла из хвороста.

When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to each other, “This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, the goddess Justice has not allowed him to live.”

Когда жители острова увидели, что с руки Паула свисает змея, они стали говорить друг другу:

– Без сомнения, этот человек убийца: он спасся из моря, но богиня возмездия не позволила ему остаться в живых.

But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects.

Но Паул стряхнул змею в огонь, и она не причинила ему никакого вреда.

The people expected him to swell up or suddenly fall dead; but after waiting a long time and seeing nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god.

Люди ожидали, что он начнёт опухать или внезапно упадёт мёртвым. Они прождали долгое время, и когда увидели, что с ним ничего не происходит, изменили мнение и стали говорить, что он какое-то божество.

There was an estate nearby that belonged to Publius, the chief official of the island. He welcomed us to his home and showed us generous hospitality for three days.

Неподалёку было имение, принадлежавшее правителю острова по имени Публий. Он радушно принял нас у себя, и три дня мы гостили у него.

His father was sick in bed, suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him and, after prayer, placed his hands on him and healed him.

Отец Публия был болен и лежал в постели, у него был жар и дизентерия. Паул вошёл к нему, помолился, возложил на него руки и исцелил его.

When this had happened, the rest of the sick on the island came and were cured.

Когда народ это увидел, то все больные острова стали приходить и получали исцеление.

They honored us in many ways; and when we were ready to sail, they furnished us with the supplies we needed.

Paul’s Arrival at Rome

Они воздали нам много почестей, и когда мы должны были отплывать, они снабдили нас в дорогу всем необходимым.

After three months we put out to sea in a ship that had wintered in the island—it was an Alexandrian ship with the figurehead of the twin gods Castor and Pollux.

Спустя три месяца мы вышли в море на корабле из Александрии, который зимовал на острове. Этот корабль носил имя богов-близнецов Кастора и Поллукса^[a].

We put in at Syracuse and stayed there three days.

Мы приплыли в Сиракузы и пробыли там три дня.

From there we set sail and arrived at Rhegium. The next day the south wind came up, and on the following day we reached Puteoli.

Оттуда мы, идя галсами,^[b] прибыли в Ригий^[c]. На следующий день подул южный ветер, и мы прибыли в Путеолы.

There we found some brothers and sisters who invited us to spend a week with them. And so we came to Rome.

Там мы нашли братьев, и они попросили нас провести с ними неделю.

И вот мы, наконец, прибыли в Рим.

The brothers and sisters there had heard that we were coming, and they traveled as far as the Forum of Appius and the Three Taverns to meet us. At the sight of these people Paul thanked God and was encouraged.

Братья в Риме слышали о том, что мы должны прибыть, и вышли навстречу нам до самой Аппиевой площади, а другие до городка Три Гостиницы.^[d] Когда Паул увидел их, он поблагодарил Всевышнего и ободрился.

When we got to Rome, Paul was allowed to live by himself, with a soldier to guard him.

Мы прибыли в Рим, и Паулу разрешили жить отдельно. С ним жил лишь солдат, который и стерёг его.

Three days later he called together the local Jewish leaders. When they had assembled, Paul said to them: “My brothers, although I have done nothing against our people or against the customs of our ancestors, I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed over to the Romans.

Три дня спустя Паул созвал руководителей иудейской общины Рима. Когда они собрались, он сказал им:

– Братья, я был арестован в Иерусалиме и выдан римлянам, хотя я не сделал ничего ни против нашего народа, ни против обычаев наших предков.

They examined me and wanted to release me, because I was not guilty of any crime deserving death.

Римляне провели расследование по моему делу и хотели меня отпустить, так как за мной нет никакой вины, за которую я заслуживал бы смерти.

The Jews objected, so I was compelled to make an appeal to Caesar. I certainly did not intend to bring any charge against my own people.

Но поскольку представители нашего народа возражали, я вынужден был потребовать суда у императора, и сделал я это вовсе не для того, чтобы в чём-либо обвинить мой народ.

For this reason I have asked to see you and talk with you. It is because of the hope of Israel that I am bound with this chain.”

Я и созвал вас сегодня, чтобы увидеть вас и поговорить с вами. Ведь сегодня на мне эти цепи из-за надежды Исраила на то, что Всевышний обещал.^[e]

They replied, “We have not received any letters from Judea concerning you, and none of our people who have come from there has reported or said anything bad about you.

Слушавшие Паула ответили:

– Мы не получали о тебе никаких писем из Иудеи, и никто из братьев, прибывших оттуда, не говорил нам о тебе ничего плохого.

But we want to hear what your views are, for we know that people everywhere are talking against this sect.”

Но мы хотели бы от тебя самого услышать, как ты сам думаешь, потому что до нас доходят лишь отрицательные отклики об этой секте.

They arranged to meet Paul on a certain day, and came in even larger numbers to the place where he was staying. He witnessed to them from morning till evening, explaining about the kingdom of God, and from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets he tried to persuade them about Jesus.

Они условились с Паулом, и в назначенный день к нему домой пришло ещё больше народу. Паул с утра и до вечера говорил им о Царстве Всевышнего и свидетельствовал им об Исе словами из Таурата^[f] и из Книги Пророков.

Some were convinced by what he said, but others would not believe.

Некоторых он убедил, другие же не верили.

They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul had made this final statement: “The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your ancestors when he said through Isaiah the prophet:

“Therefore I want you to know that God’s salvation has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will listen!” ^[29] [b]

– Итак, знайте, что спасение Всевышнего послано язычникам^[h]: они и услышат эту весть!^[i]

For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him.

Паул жил в Риме ещё целых два года в снятом им помещении и принимал всех, кто приходил к нему.

He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with all boldness and without hindrance!

Он смело и беспрепятственно возвещал о Царстве Всевышнего и учил о Повелителе Исе Масихе.
