Acts 27

When it was decided that we would sail for Italy, Paul and some other prisoners were handed over to a centurion named Julius, who belonged to the Imperial Regiment.

We boarded a ship from Adramyttium about to sail for ports along the coast of the province of Asia, and we put out to sea. Aristarchus, a Macedonian from Thessalonica, was with us.

Мы сели на адрамитский корабль, который должен был заходить в порты провинции Азия, и отправились в путь. С нами был македонянин Аристарх из Фессалоник.

The next day we landed at Sidon; and Julius, in kindness to Paul, allowed him to go to his friends so they might provide for his needs.

From there we put out to sea again and passed to the lee of Cyprus because the winds were against us.

When we had sailed across the open sea off the coast of Cilicia and Pamphylia, we landed at Myra in Lycia.

Мы пересекли открытое море, омывающее берега Киликии и Памфилии, и причалили в ликийском городе Миры.

There the centurion found an Alexandrian ship sailing for Italy and put us on board.

Там римский офицер нашёл корабль из Александрии, направлявшийся в Италию, и посадил нас на него.

We made slow headway for many days and had difficulty arriving off Cnidus. When the wind did not allow us to hold our course, we sailed to the lee of Crete, opposite Salmone.

В течение многих дней мы медленно продвигались вперёд и в конце концов, хотя и с трудностями, но прибыли в Книд. И так как ветер не давал нам двигаться в нужном направлении, мы подплыли к Криту со стороны Салмоны.

We moved along the coast with difficulty and came to a place called Fair Havens, near the town of Lasea.

С трудом продвигаясь вдоль побережья, мы прибыли в место, называемое Хорошие Пристани, недалеко от города Ласеи.

Much time had been lost, and sailing had already become dangerous because by now it was after the Day of Atonement.^[a] So Paul warned them,

“Men, I can see that our voyage is going to be disastrous and bring great loss to ship and cargo, and to our own lives also.”

But the centurion, instead of listening to what Paul said, followed the advice of the pilot and of the owner of the ship.

Римский же офицер, вместо того чтобы послушать Паула, последовал совету капитана и владельца корабля.

Since the harbor was unsuitable to winter in, the majority decided that we should sail on, hoping to reach Phoenix and winter there. This was a harbor in Crete, facing both southwest and northwest.

The Storm

Порт этот был непригоден для зимовки, и большинство решило отправиться дальше, чтобы попытаться доплыть до Феникса и там зазимовать. Феникс был пристанью на Крите, открытой для юго-западного и северо-западного ветров.

When a gentle south wind began to blow, they saw their opportunity; so they weighed anchor and sailed along the shore of Crete.

Before very long, a wind of hurricane force, called the Northeaster, swept down from the island.

Немного времени спустя с острова подул ураганный северо-восточный ветер, называемый Эвракилоном.

The ship was caught by the storm and could not head into the wind; so we gave way to it and were driven along.

Он подхватил корабль, который не мог двигаться против ветра. Тогда мы отдались на волю волн и носились, гонимые ветром.

As we passed to the lee of a small island called Cauda, we were hardly able to make the lifeboat secure,

Мы оказались с подветренной стороны маленького острова Кавда. Там нам с большими трудностями удалось сохранить лодку.

so the men hoisted it aboard. Then they passed ropes under the ship itself to hold it together. Because they were afraid they would run aground on the sandbars of Syrtis, they lowered the sea anchor^[b] and let the ship be driven along.

Когда её подняли на корабль, матросы провели канаты под кораблем и обвязали его. Из страха сесть на песчаные отмели Сирта, они спустили паруса^[b] и продолжали плыть, носимые ветром.

We took such a violent battering from the storm that the next day they began to throw the cargo overboard.

Шторм так сильно бросал корабль, что на следующий день они стали сбрасывать груз за борт.

On the third day, they threw the ship’s tackle overboard with their own hands.

На третий день они своими руками выбросили за борт корабельные снасти.

When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the storm continued raging, we finally gave up all hope of being saved.

Несколько дней не было видно ни солнца, ни звёзд, а шторм все бушевал. Мы уже потеряли всякую надежду на спасение.

After they had gone a long time without food, Paul stood up before them and said: “Men, you should have taken my advice not to sail from Crete; then you would have spared yourselves this damage and loss.

Люди долго ничего не ели. Тогда Паул встал среди них и сказал:

– Вам следовало послушаться моего совета и не отплывать от Крита, тогда у вас не было бы этих бед и потерь.

But now I urge you to keep up your courage, because not one of you will be lost; only the ship will be destroyed.

Но сейчас ободритесь, никто из вас не погибнет, только корабль разобьётся.

Last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me

Прошлой ночью мне явился ангел от Всевышнего, Которому я принадлежу и Которому служу.

and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.’

Он сказал мне: «Паул, не бойся. Ты должен предстать перед императором, и Всевышний по Своей милости также даровал жизнь и всем, кто плывёт с тобой».

So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me.

Так что не бойтесь! Я доверяю Всевышнему и верю, что всё будет так, как Он мне сказал.

Nevertheless, we must run aground on some island.”

The Shipwreck

Корабль будет выброшен на какой-нибудь остров.

Кораблекрушение

On the fourteenth night we were still being driven across the Adriatic^[c] Sea, when about midnight the sailors sensed they were approaching land.

На четырнадцатые сутки, когда нас всё ещё носило по Адриатическому морю^[c], в полночь матросы почувствовали, что мы приближаемся к земле.

They took soundings and found that the water was a hundred and twenty feet^[d] deep. A short time later they took soundings again and found it was ninety feet^[e] deep.

Они замерили глубину, и оказалось, что глубина была тридцать шесть метров, а когда замерили немного позже, глубина была уже двадцать семь метров^[d].

Fearing that we would be dashed against the rocks, they dropped four anchors from the stern and prayed for daylight.

Матросы боялись, что нас ударит о камни, и спустили с кормы четыре якоря, молясь, чтобы скорее наступил день.

In an attempt to escape from the ship, the sailors let the lifeboat down into the sea, pretending they were going to lower some anchors from the bow.

Они попытались бежать с корабля и стали спускать спасательную лодку, делая вид, что хотят опустить якорь с носа корабля.

Then Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, “Unless these men stay with the ship, you cannot be saved.”

Паул сказал римскому офицеру и солдатам:

– Если эти люди не останутся на корабле, то вам не спастись.

So the soldiers cut the ropes that held the lifeboat and let it drift away.

Тогда солдаты перерубили канаты, державшие лодку, и она упала в море.

Just before dawn Paul urged them all to eat. “For the last fourteen days,” he said, “you have been in constant suspense and have gone without food—you haven’t eaten anything.

На рассвете Паул стал уговаривать людей поесть.

– Последние четырнадцать дней вы постоянно находитесь в напряжении и ничего ещё не ели, – сказал он. –

Now I urge you to take some food. You need it to survive. Not one of you will lose a single hair from his head.”

Я настоятельно советую вам поесть, и это поможет вам спастись. Ни у кого из вас даже волос с головы не упадёт.

After he said this, he took some bread and gave thanks to God in front of them all. Then he broke it and began to eat.

Сказав это, Паул взял лепёшку, поблагодарил за неё Всевышнего перед всеми, разломил и стал есть.

They were all encouraged and ate some food themselves.

Людей это ободрило, и все принялись за еду.

Altogether there were 276 of us on board.

Всего на борту нас было двести семьдесят шесть человек.

When they had eaten as much as they wanted, they lightened the ship by throwing the grain into the sea.

Когда люди досыта поели, они стали облегчать корабль, выбрасывая в море зерно.

When daylight came, they did not recognize the land, but they saw a bay with a sandy beach, where they decided to run the ship aground if they could.

На рассвете они не узнали показавшуюся землю, но увидели бухту с песчаным берегом, к которому они и решили пристать, если удастся.

Cutting loose the anchors, they left them in the sea and at the same time untied the ropes that held the rudders. Then they hoisted the foresail to the wind and made for the beach.

Обрубив якоря и оставив их в море, матросы развязали рулевые вёсла, подняли малый парус и направили судно к берегу.

But the ship struck a sandbar and ran aground. The bow stuck fast and would not move, and the stern was broken to pieces by the pounding of the surf.

Корабль налетел на песчаную косу и сел на мель. Нос глубоко увяз и был неподвижен, а корму разбивали волны.

The soldiers planned to kill the prisoners to prevent any of them from swimming away and escaping.

Солдаты решили убить всех заключённых, чтобы никто из них, выплыв, не сбежал.

But the centurion wanted to spare Paul’s life and kept them from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and get to land.

Но офицер хотел спасти Паула и остановил их. Он приказал тем, кто мог плавать, прыгать в воду первыми и плыть к берегу.

The rest were to get there on planks or on other pieces of the ship. In this way everyone reached land safely.

Остальные должны были добираться на досках и на обломках от корабля. Таким образом все благополучно выбрались на берег.
